- mikelgan, on 09/04/2008, -3/+53No, now. The system can be ordered *right now*.
- somestranger26, on 09/04/2008, -6/+54You're kidding, right? $250 gets you a PSP and a game and you're expecting a fully-capable laptop for the same price?
- plr4ever, on 09/04/2008, -7/+48Yes
- ha3er0, on 06/16/2009, -4/+40Acer Aspire One is much better IMO http://www.linuxhaxor.net/2008/09/01/acer-aspire-o ...
- saleem, on 09/04/2008, -3/+36please hold your breath.
- gluecode, on 09/04/2008, -2/+35Dell can shut it's business? Wow you must be a huge Apple fanboy with all the wrong facts!
- funkyp56, on 09/04/2008, -0/+31When?

- lndmn01, on 09/04/2008, -1/+24Or you could buy an aspire one with 120GB HD and windows xp for $350....
- Brooklyn88, on 09/04/2008, -0/+23When will then be now?

- john2kx, on 09/04/2008, -0/+17"If you can wait until 6 a.m. Central tomorrow, Sept. 5, you'll be able to get a Mini for only $99 with the purchase of a Studio 15, XPS M1530 or XPS M1330 laptop through 6 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9 (U.S. only)."

This is kind of tempting.. I could just order the Mini, along with a Studio 15 ($650 + $99) and then just ebay off the Studio 15 laptop, and i'll probably be well under $350.. - prisoner24601, on 09/04/2008, -0/+16Has anyone been able to tell if it is possible to dual-boot the Mini from the SD card slot? I do a lot of development/experimentation and would love to have several SD cards that are each a different installation, some Ubuntu, some XP, etc.
- Hangingtree, on 11/04/2008, -5/+19Sorry, a similarly configured Apple machine sells right now for $2200 and if you want that to come with a keyboard it is an extra $400.
- handler, on 09/04/2008, -2/+16I'll keep my Acer Aspire thanks.

@Mac Fanboys
Is he with you guys? - shadowman99, on 09/04/2008, -0/+12Are we there yet?
- hobbes84k, on 09/04/2008, -2/+14$249 is what the rumored price had been since Engadget leaked the announcement back in June.
- fpol3, on 09/04/2008, -1/+13dude...1024X60 would really blow. hope you like scrolling a lot.
- cactus476, on 09/04/2008, -0/+11One thing to note, if you spec the Linux system to be the same as the XP, even without a Windows OS, the system costs more...
- sandaboy, on 09/04/2008, -2/+12Why not get this Acer One with better specs (XP, 120GB HD, 1GB RAM) for the same price instead (when it's in stock of course):
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8967 ... - BeefBaron, on 09/04/2008, -0/+10Doesn't the mouse button layout annoy you?
- Dou6, on 09/04/2008, -0/+10To me, these netbooks will remain a joke until they get some realistic battery life. For this thing to be a logical choice for me, it needs to at least be able to sit on with a low screen level for at least six hours. Basically something I can use most of the day to take notes, check my email ocassionally. My macbook does this farely well if I cycle my wifi off and on when I need it and keep the screen pretty low. For what is a far more limited machine than my macbook, I would at least expect it to go all day without needing to charge it.
But its the same old story, battery technology is what needs to advance before we can make much headway anywhere else in mobile tech. - Spire3660, on 09/04/2008, -1/+11Can anyone explain to me why you used the word cheep?
- SuperJimmyJimbo, on 09/04/2008, -0/+10I'm glad I picked up an Aspire. I got sick of waiting.
- kigabit, on 09/04/2008, -0/+9*I think you forgot something*
- raydeen, on 09/04/2008, -1/+10I'm leaning more towards the Aspire myself. I like the overlayfs they're using. Apparently adding an SD card directly extends the amount of storage making the built in SSD and SD appear as one drive.
- 4321234, on 09/04/2008, -2/+10Now. It's the new then.
- saturn5, on 09/04/2008, -0/+8Yep, it's the usual Dell smoke and mirrors that try to make the Linux version seem cheaper, when it really isn't - from TG Daily:
"Prices start at $349 for a Linux Mini 9 with 4 GB storage space and 1 GB memory and top out at $484 for a Windows XP version with a 16 GB SSD. However, the pricing may be deceiving as the Linux version is slightly more expensive than the Windows XP model when brought up to the same hardware. Dell charges extra for a white color ($25), a webcam ($10 or $25), the 1 GB memory upgrade ($25) and the 16 GB SSD ($75), which means that the Linux notebook can cost $519 – or about $35 more than the comparable XP model." - rpapi100, on 09/04/2008, -9/+17Yuk, been expecting this baby since end of july, holded out from buying a Aspire One or a Wind hoping Dell would offer something better...
3h battery life, underspecced machine, higher price and no release where I live (MTL, canada, about 4h from New York)...
Man, looks like another good idea hijacked from A to Z by a retarded marketing dept. ¨A¨ being pushing release date from Auguste to September in order to not compete with other Dell products and ¨Z¨ being promising double and delivering half... - shaka999, on 09/04/2008, -0/+8Wish they had a HD option. 8GB or 16GB isn't enough...
- SteveMax, on 09/04/2008, -0/+8If it isn't worth paying for, it isn't worth stealing.
- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -2/+9Wake up sir, it's 2012 and you're at your local Goodwill.
- soccernamlak, on 09/05/2008, -2/+9This is why I love Digg
- Arramol, on 09/05/2008, -1/+8Am I going to be seeing a screenshot of this thread on the front page in two days with soccernamlak's comment as the headline?
- roxgod666, on 09/04/2008, -1/+8-20%
- southeastbeast, on 09/04/2008, -0/+7No Atheros = no buy. Or any other non Linux friendly. NDIS != friendly.
- armor, on 09/04/2008, -0/+6You're not a news article
- dusanmal, on 09/04/2008, -1/+7Have anyone noticed that this implies XP costing 50$? Or, more likely - Dell screwing their Linux customers by overcharging. If XP version costs 399$, charging for Linux version anything more than 299$ is robbery.
- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -0/+6The only way everybody will be able to own a computer is if they paid the electric bill this month and Dell starts taking food stamps.
- gluecode, on 09/04/2008, -2/+8It's already available now. Also Lenovo has one called Ideapad S10. Burying parent post for wrong information.
- j4mie, on 09/05/2008, -0/+6£299 in the UK. Which is $526. Well done, Dell.
