- baalzebub, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19i dont think Debian is dieing, i think it is suffering from a mental illness [eg] multiple personality disorder, and an identity crisis...

Q: Who the hell is i440 and what the ***** wrong with him?
A: i440 is a cum dumpster and a troll, don't reply to his comments because he jacks off to them. We recommend you click this link: http://www.digg.com/userblock/337283 - GMorgan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I think people misunderstand Debian. Projects like Ubuntu, DSL, Mepis, Linspire, Knoppix etc are all Debian. They submit around 80% of their patches back into Debian. If its derivatives stay healthy then so will Debian. Theres a reason so many devs focus directly on Deb rather than picking a more used derived distro, they will see their work reach more people this way as practically all the upstream distros will utilise it.
As it stands all of the Debian derived distros would have to die for Debian to be able to die. Debian is designed to be forked as a standard base and designed so that work passes between its derivatives with ease so really Ubuntu doing well will not see the end of Debian. - Garda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"I would be more worried if there were no flame wars and no controversies. That would be the death of Debian"
haha - subgeniusd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Don't you think the success of so many Debian based distros might serve as motivation to get over the quibbling and back to business? Hope so.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5 I'd call it growing pains and since C.J. is in the thick of it, I'd think he'd have a pretty good finger on Debian's pulse.
I think the Debian folk will get through this with a little time and determination. - Giever, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I think Gman1223 may share some of the symptoms that Debian has according to baalzebub. >_>
- traherom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You can go to your preferences to unblock him.
- CurtHowland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't think that the vast majority of Debian developers are involved in the present malaise. They do indeed just "get the job done".
I'm not a developer, just a very satisfied user. It is useful at times like this to note that the Debian-User mailing list recently had a "Debian Love" thread composed of people like me just saying "Thank You" to the developers.
Political crises come and go. The people who just get things done are what allow others to have their little spats without bringing the house down.
All voluntary organizations rely upon these "invisible", quiet people for whom the job is its own reward. Debian will fail when those people leave. So far, I'm very glad to say, those are the kinds of people who are _staying_.
The next release of Debian is going to be a gem. I'm proud to be a contributor to the effort even in my own small way (bug reports, testing, helping other users). - XVampireX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@Gman1223: Thanks!
- subgeniusd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's what I meant. Thanx for takin' it to a HNL--whole 'nutha level (Mad TV). You did not include Xandros so as the only Xandude in all of Digg got to throw it in once in a while.(smile)
- Darkhacker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1But you just can't come out and say that!

coocoo coocoo coocoo coocoo - jazzmans, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No fair on the link gmann, now i440 is blocked, (mea culpa) I don't find his comments that bad. Your link without an explanation I find more offensive.
No digg.
jaz - hoberion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2thx for the block link Gmann
- GMorgan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, your post should have read
Argh, please stop putting question marks at the end of titles?
Haven't you learned anything from the most inpartial and informed news source in existence (Fox). - dukeinlondon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think debian is fine. How many historic distros do have so many derivatives distros that stray so little from the mothership ?
On the other hand, I think debian needs to get a better democratic system : Working democracy is choosing a leader or a team of leaders through debate and then, respecting the mandate they are given to take decisions for the whole of the project. - i440, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3You could always click the international 'no' icon next to my name, you know. Even though, naturally, you probably won't see this
- lnxguit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks for the follow-up article. "Is Debian Dying" is an eye-catching headline, but as usual the real story is more interesting.
- crazaalex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Argh, please stop putting question marks at the end of titles.
- i440, on 10/12/2007, -13/+4You know, Gman, I'm beginning to get the slightest impression that you don't like me that much. -____-
I am serious though. If Debian expects to gain more marketshare without falling apart, it should really be more cohesive. It already only has a small amount of marketshare. Now multiply that marketshare several times, and the future looks somewhat bleak.
I'm not saying that it can't be fixed. Debian can and should resolve their issues. I'm just saying that perhaps some restructuring and relations improvement may be desirable. - Gman1223, on 10/12/2007, -17/+2Hey i440 i don't hate you man.... i added you to my digg Buddy's XD
LOL
seriously.. email me or somethin justin.whin at gmail.com id like to talk to you :) - i440, on 10/12/2007, -21/+3And at a desktop market share of 0.00987% (an all time high), Debian is already falling apart
