- rafgar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10#1) Making front page is based on frequency of diggs (as I understand it), not quantity.
#2) Actually, that one's the dupe. It's only 15 hours old to this one's 22. - nograz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8That has been around for some time and actually has a good niche.
Maybe you should read up about it before you write it off as just another linux distro? - scottydeep, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Geez, Damn Small Linuxis a completely different animal than Mac OS X. Your comment makes no sense, and is just trolling. And I'm a Mac fiend!
DSL is a great linux distro to install on old hardware to get some use out of it. I've used it to make a couple of digital picture frames out of some Pentium 1 machines. It's like telling me, "Forget fixing your old bicycle, go get a Mini Cooper." So to say something as stupid as "Who cares Linux.. go get a MacOS X" is totally off base.
Oh, and by the way, learn some damn grammar. - ollywompus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Who said anything about this being a business distro? That's not their primary aim, by any means, so what do they care if it's a business friendly distribution?
- FCon4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I s'pose the whole '2.3' thingie didn't give away that this was an established distro?
- nograz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Also called DSL, which when asked, you can just reply with Darn or Dang Small Linux.
What they don't know, won't hurt them! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I don't agree with their stance on STAYING with the 2.4 kernel forever, you can access your LVM2 volume groups without 2.6 etc..
SLAX is the best small distro by far, small pretty and up to date. - mcangeli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Torrent: http://linuxtracker.org/torrents-details.php?id=1745&hit=1
- GeniusCube, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Many distros hang around at 2.4. With the amount of material that gets backported its hardly worth the upgrade for a distro like DSL.

Edited by John on Mar. 29 2006,02:26 - GreenSlabOfClay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm so impressed with this project.
Have it working on a P100.
Donation time boys, anyone match my $1 per Mb of distro size - $50?
(not a great incentive for decreasing distro size though is it) ;) - RonanOD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is the only distribution so far that has revived my ancient Gateway laptop. Keep it coming!
- erov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, revived a Toshiba Satellite Pro 445(0) cdx laptop here .. [p133-16mb-1.4g+wireless] and was quite satisfied.
- dxbmatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Boot from the LiveCD, and the choose 'Install To Pendrive' from the menu. Gives you 2 options IIRC. I think most modern motherboards support the USB-HDD method
- prose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Check out the WIKI for more information.
http://www.damnsmallinux.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page - trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1DSL is the only current distro I know of that you can toram ( load the entire os into ram for speed or to be able to eject the cd if it is a live cd) with only 64 meg of ram.
- geekworking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1DSL makes a great toolbox. When you're working in a corporate environment that is 100% Microsoft, the ability to turn any machine into an *nix box in a few seconds to run *nix only diagnostics or tools can be a lifesaver.
- Daisuke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Use ctorrent. It's available on MyDSL, and runs nicely for the purpose of this distro (pretty low footprint.)
- Chozabu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2OK, i would think about checking out OSX if:
i could use my own, even current hardware (legaly)
it didnt have such a massive price tag
there wernt so many ignorant zealots crappily parroting steve jobs (though similar probs exist in lin land, they dont anny me so much, normaly because the zealots seem to be correct!)
still, some time in the future i will have a really decent look at OSX - but i think i really will be sticking with open source, just the other day i downloaded blocko fighter, and had a good laugh
then i checked out the source, learned a good deal, and me and a couple of guys had hours more fun playing on modded versions!(basic is a flat floor, with 4 walls, the main problem i found, is changing the floor height, up and the blocko men cant balance, down and they jsut die - still resizing and changing walls is cool, plus lots more funm chaning damage, speed, balance, blood) - StickWST, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is great! Can some one post up a link for instructions on booting from a flash drive? (Tryed google but my internet is acting up, ill be suprised if this posts!) Because it would be fun to boot this up at my school. Now if I could only find a ***** computer....
- oxymoron69, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1but can they add a good bittorrent client to be std with this distro?
- Gyga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dwalker, are you are only giving $0.50? It should be 100/size, to give $2.
- Anti, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1actually, it's not Yet Another Linux distro, that distribution can be found here: http://cafecomputer.com/faqindex.html
- shavenwarthog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've used Damn Small Linux, and it's great! Think of it as a business-card sized Knoppix or Debian. Other small distros arent really scalable upwards, like DSL is.
If you dont care, then Puppy Linux is also recommended. VERY small, and with custom things to make everything fast. You can boot from a CD, then write your changes back to the same CD! http://www.puppylinux.org/user/viewpage.php?page_id=1 - trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1wrong thread. Bury this.
- gmagana, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3With a name like that, Damn Small Linux is dead on arrival for use in business. It will embarrass the heck out of any sysadmin that admits to use it, not to mention make him/her look unprofessional. In a business environment being a home-grown nerd fan is not always a good thing.
- dwalker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0A more incentive driven foruma would be:
(total_size / $100)
Thats my $2 worth! - GreenSlabOfClay, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1If your cash is tight, order a CD here:
http://damnsmalllinux.org/cd.html
I did. Proof: Order Number 4412859
Also, Proof of $50 donation: Order Number: 490343
Damn Small Donation Fund 1 50.00 50.00
All prices are in US Dollars TOTAL 50.00
Disclaimer:
I'm in *no* way affiliated with DamnSmallLinux.
Just absolutely love Linux projects like this. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1HTF does this make it to front page with only 35 diggs and three comments?
Not only that but its a dupe. Mark this one as a dupe and digg the other
http://digg.com/linux_unix/DSL_2.3_is_out_ - verucasalt, on 10/12/2007, -17/+3Wooo, it's Yet Another Linux Distro!
- no0ne, on 10/12/2007, -28/+2Who cares Linux.. go get a MacOS X

What is Digg?
