- SpringBoy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Well, Tomcat is an Apache project so you should be mad at them, not Sun. Although, personally, I'd much rather be mad at whoever is making you use IIS (and Windows Server)!
- joshsz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've found that under heavier load, eliminating mod_jk is far better. I use apache's reverse proxy tools along with url rewriting to redirect 'dynamic' requests to the tomcat engine's own native http interface.
This was far faster under load tests from jmeter as well as in the wild. It also allows for use of older Apaches, less recompiling, and not to mention LVS (we have one apache server and 10 tomcat servers).
See my old mailing list post here: http://www.mail-archive.com/tomcat-user@jakarta.apache.org/msg141627.html
or feel free to message me with questions. - lexbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why would anyone pay up for IIS and Winows Server 2003 and then decide to use JSP/Servlets instead of ASP?
- reuben, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You're lying to yourself.
- mfearby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's a matter of: I have no choice in the matter. If Java is supposed to be this "write once, run anywhere" system, but can't run on the second most-popular web server in the the world without having to hand over hundreds of US dollars or losing all your hair in the process trying to get a poorly documented (and broken) free version to work, then that's not exactly "write once, run anywhere" is it? If Sun wanted to encourage people from the Microsoft world (who are there either willingly or against their will) over to their side, don't you think they should make the adoption of their free stuff a little easier?
- CaughtThinking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Jesus, I've been looking for something like this forever. (and good idea joshsz).
- mugatu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1mod_jk can be a real pain in the butt. If you're going the Apache route, just jump to Apache 2.2, which has AJP protocol support built in to the core distribution. Add a couple ProxyPass directives to your Apache config and you're done.
- tadelste, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I wanted this information. Thank you again Howtoforge.
- naros, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you are running an RPM based system you can just yum or apt-get it from http://www.jpackage.org/.
- CMfly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A better reply would have been to point us to specific books and or chapters.
And really what's wrong with reading a website that tells me how to do it instead of having to find a book? - gekkokid, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2guess its a slow day in tech
- mfearby, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2One of these HOWTOs for Tomcat 5.5 and IIS 6 under Windows 2003 would be handy. I'm starting a project that requires just such a setup and do you think I can get it to work using the (rather scattered and incomplete) documentation available? No. I've also tried three non-Apache installation instructions and the only way I can get it to work is with an old version of Tomcat and a deprecated version of the ISAPI connector.
I realise that Sun and Microsoft hate each other's guts (despite large sums of money "officially" making them friends) but these kinds of problems either make you hate Sun, and therefore Java, or Microsoft. Life in the development lane isn't an easy one. Sometimes I wonder if there is life beyond having to tolerate mongrels like this! - TheRealZero, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Configuring Tomcat5 and Apache2 with Virtual Hosts using mod_jk
The _jk in the title threw me off, I thought you were just kidding and the article was actually going to be something less boring... - socket, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Only Digg kidz would need a tutorial for this. I did this under Apache 1.3 in my sleep, Apache 2 would be even easier. Read a book or two guys.
- Koloss, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Why did I think of military aircraft before web servers when I read the title?
Does this mean I'm not a geek? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1mod me down... I'm testing something I ask fixed with my account
