- Aeuta, on 07/27/2008, -4/+240Yeah there are lots of sites that do this kind of stuff...some do one worse and block firefox...I mean come on if your web designer can not make a page compatible with firefox AND IE he/she is not deserving of your business.
- subgeniusd, on 07/27/2008, -6/+125FTA-`This next person went into detail about how Windows is the only OS that offers "real security" `. Wow.......that must have been a surreal conversation.
Wachovia (one of the top 4 or 5 US banks) did not accept anything but Win/IE - FF even 2 years ago. Now I can access all my accounts with Linux/SeaMonkey. Good for Wachovia. So......even less reason to use my last and only XP unit. - depro9, on 07/27/2008, -17/+121"CitiBank employees say that Windows is the only secure operating system."
Does John McCain & Ted Stevens work for CitiBank? - cantormath, on 07/27/2008, -9/+95It seems that the CitiGroup Inc makes a lot of bad decisions.
stock falls like $30/share from last year.

you would think they would be more open to the idea of Linux using customers. - dmacmattack, on 07/28/2008, -15/+69***** you two of my friends died going outside.
- inactive, on 07/28/2008, -1/+49There was a digg story on how a developer blocked his site to IE and everyone in the comments was applauding him.
- naio, on 07/28/2008, -6/+55I would block Linux machines too. Communists shouldn't be allowed to open bank accounts at all!
- bmatherlyjr, on 07/27/2008, -2/+50No but Linuxphobic Richard Parsons (CEO of Time Warner and unofficial Microsoft fanboi) is on their board so that explains a lot.
- cube3x3, on 07/27/2008, -1/+42Simple solution is:
1. Right Click on your browser in center area
2. Click on Play option
And it will show the animation and now you can close it.
I had the problem from a long time and found this fix by just right-click. :) - inactive, on 07/28/2008, -9/+49it's not citibank blocking you twits, it's flash being stupid in linux like always. Right click on the blank screen and you can click play to get out of it. Alternatively, use flash block, problem solved.
I ran into this weeks ago, get over it. - Heywoodj, on 07/27/2008, -3/+34Another workaround is to run FF for Win XP under Wine. Works for streaming TV shows from the networks too.(ABC I'm looking at you.)
- borez, on 07/27/2008, -2/+27" CitiBank employees say that Windows is the only secure operating system."
OK.... well done. - iDiggIt42, on 07/28/2008, -0/+25Must've been that year "2008" that happened so long ago.
- edwartica, on 07/28/2008, -0/+23I'm going all grammar nazi on your ass for that one, but WHAT THE HELL!?!?!??! ARE YOU A ***** LOLCAT?!?!?!?!
- legendxx, on 07/28/2008, -2/+24" CitiBank employees say that Windows is the only secure operating system."
That employee is probably a high-school student taking a typing class... Anyone who cites a customer service rep and associates that opinion as the entire company's should not be allowed to blog. Now if you got a manager to say something like that.. it's different. Be realistic people.. any idiot on the street can get a CSR to admit to something that blatantly false. The truth is they really don't care about the people they are helping and just want to get off the phone with you. Especially if you're obviously a huge computer nerd and asking questions way beyond their comprehension. - Nothlit, on 07/28/2008, -0/+20Does they?
- Lancelot9201, on 07/28/2008, -0/+19The statement " CitiBank employees say that Windows is the only secure operating system" pretty much sums up why they lose Millions each year from identity thief & fraud. Any System Admin. who endorses this policy should be moved to the food service industry..!!!
- inactive, on 07/28/2008, -0/+19Dont worry, Citibank doesn't like anyone.
- inactive, on 07/28/2008, -1/+20They cant. The DMCA specifically allows reverse engineering for Compatibility sake.
- bmatherlyjr, on 07/27/2008, -1/+19Which will do you no good in a few months as Wachovia is severely in the red and not supporting certain browsers and operating systems is the least of their problems at this point.
- cantormath, on 07/28/2008, -10/+25"it's not citibank blocking you twits, it's flash being stupid in linux like always. Right click on the blank screen and you can click play to get out of it. Alternatively, use flash block, problem solved.

It is Citibank! Citibank knows this........
If you use a USER AGENT SWITCHER add-on for Firefox, it works fine, so it is not flash.........there is no need to right click and hit play (then continue, continue, close) to get http://citicards.com to work.. You shouldn't have to install an addon, one meant to deceive, to access your account nor should you need to perform 5 extra, no so clear to everyone, mouse clicks. Finally, Citibank's technical support is completely unaware of these fixes. They do not make you aware of them when you call, 5 times. - vault, on 07/27/2008, -3/+19They still would've lost billions even if their website supported Linux. Not seeing what one has to do with the other- lots of banks are in trouble.
- bmatherlyjr, on 07/27/2008, -0/+15They are open to the idea of Linux as long someone coughs up enough money. I bet if it was Redhat Inc paying them tens of millions of dollars verses Microsoft their tune would change quickly. Conspiracy? Perhaps.
- cantormath, on 07/27/2008, -19/+31I have 12 Linux machines at home and 65 at work. Your the troll.......it is not inaccurate.
Also, it wouldn't be shopped, it would be Gimp'd ::Grin::.
If you dont believe it, try it.
Linux+http://citicards.com without a User Agent Switcher addon on your browser.
troll that.... ;-) - sirhomer, on 07/28/2008, -2/+15Just tried it for myself and it's quite clear it doesn't work. Are you sure you are visiting http://citicards.com and not some other site owned by CitiBank?
- inactive, on 07/28/2008, -1/+14Its called blatant sarcasm.
- mikelieman, on 07/28/2008, -0/+12Citi made the BAD DECISION to use IE-only frameworks.
Why should *anyone* but Citi pay to fix the problem they *chose* to create in the first place? - munkyxtc, on 07/28/2008, -0/+12They are all terrorists. Hell, even Tux on the no fly list.
- depro9, on 07/27/2008, -2/+14Yeah that does clear the air thanks.
- daflo, on 07/28/2008, -0/+12Dugg for insightful comment (and for mentioning flashblock).
But I'm sick of webmasters overusing flash. Why the hell would a ***** bank have to use flash ?!? - filefly, on 07/28/2008, -1/+13Or some other site NOT owned by CitiBank? I hope you're not getting phished.
- Phocion55, on 07/28/2008, -0/+11Making a web site specific to one OS is like making a car wash only for Toyota's.......
.........and then arguing "Well, Toyota has a bigger market share than BMW, so it's fine."
That's about how much this situation makes sense. - bmatherlyjr, on 07/28/2008, -0/+10If they do work with Wine, that strange bed fellow will last until there are slopping Windows sales as people realize you can run many Windows based application using free (beer and speech) software.
Balmer has already spoken out against the use of VMWare, give him time he'll add Sun and Wine to the list soon enough. - martalli, on 07/28/2008, -2/+12So this is actually a flash problem, not a Linux problem...
- cantormath, on 07/28/2008, -6/+15"I'm running Linux and got no problem here. Right click and select "play" to continue. Unless I see any evidence to the contrary, I'm going to have to bury this... The guys who posted the same thing as me above were correct.
False alarm, no hard feelings."
if you look at the bottom, there is an update stating that you can right-click and click play for http://citicards.com. That is hardly normal protocol for viewing a website. Especially for a banking website. - tedlove, on 07/28/2008, -2/+11its not just citibank
- fotoman, on 07/28/2008, -0/+9No need to futz with agent switcher, since the page is horribly designed it takes 2-3 seconds to load.... just hit escape as soon as the username/passed fields pop up on the screen and before the stupid marketing crap, or whatever it is that they are trying to do, attempts to load. After that, works 100% :)
- bmatherlyjr, on 07/27/2008, -5/+14That work around will last until Microsoft decides to go after all the visualization vendors for intellectual property infringement. Damn pricks.
- skidooer, on 07/28/2008, -0/+8Flash's uses are dubious at best. But a bank has absolutely no reason to require it's use on a banking website.
- HyperJack, on 07/28/2008, -0/+8Was it this site:
http://www.crashie.com - edwartica, on 07/28/2008, -2/+10And this is yet another reason why I refuse to go with a larger bank. Credit unions FTW!
- Zippo, on 07/28/2008, -0/+8It's not that they actually have anything against Linux - their people just don't have a ***** clue. Laughable.
I'm sure if they had their way, it would only work with IE. - inactive, on 07/28/2008, -3/+11Its just because all Linux users are hackers.
- Stemp, on 07/28/2008, -0/+8Using Excel doesn't make you an IT professional.
- f00bar, on 07/28/2008, -4/+12Citibank.. because there's no reason for a website to be hw/os specific. That's why *someone* invented HTML ages ago.
check please. - RomeyRome, on 07/28/2008, -1/+9Looks like you'll be walking to Domino's.
- RudeTurnip, on 07/28/2008, -0/+8fwiw, I was able to log into my First Union account (before Wachovia bought them) using Lynx.
- ngmcs8203, on 07/28/2008, -0/+7They are getting ready to be bought by Chase, so you don't need to worry that much.
- Gimpishi, on 07/28/2008, -0/+7Obvious troll is obvious... this an internet forum, people use emoticons ;)
- skidooer, on 07/28/2008, -0/+7That's why we have defined standards for web documents. As long as Citibank follows those standards, the website will automatically work on Windows, Linux, OS X, and even Joe's Hobby OS.
If Linux, or Windows for that matter, happens to have a browser that does not implement the standards properly, that is not Citibank's problem. -
