- mr804, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Freebsd is too hard for digg users.
- FrickD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If you're saying FreeBSD isn't the greatest desktop OS, that is true. It is definitely an excellent server platform though.
- darkchild, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2FreeBSD makes a good desktop OS depending on your needs. Anything you can do with Linux can also be done in FreeBSD.
- silas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I use it for everyday activities, as well as a VPS for my website. It's much more versatile than you think, especially when setting it up for linux compatibility, and FreeBSD already has a large number of applications available for it.
- drwiii, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You'd be surprised how cheaply you can get a box like that today. It'd be an excellent performer under FreeBSD.
- silas, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2This could be infinitely useful for my system; I'll try that out later.
So for now, I'll digg it :) - lp7413, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I wouldn't recommend FreeBSD for beginners to *nix systems. If you don't want to go with Linux, then you could use PC-BSD, although I find it very limited. FreeBSD can be very powerful and yes it can do anything linux can do, but the configurations you have to go through may not be quiet as simple as some other operating systems. I preferablly run Debian "Etch" at the time of this digg. FreeBSD is for more intermediate level users and you do need some unix experience. Just my 2 cents worth guys..
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2"The hardware I used is a quad PIII 700MHz with 4GB of RAM".. Erm..
- Ben - jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Honestly who aside from a handful of hardcore geeks even uses FreeBSD on anything but a production machine?
I prefer to think of OS X as the consumer version of FreeBSD (flame on) even though its not FOSS. - liquidedge, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4I'm digging this and commenting on it just so I can look like I know what it means.
