- nullspace, on 06/10/2008, -33/+148W00t!, Itunes can suck it.
- muppethouse, on 06/10/2008, -6/+71Fantastic job to the development team. It's been amazing to see how fast development has taken place on Banshee 1.0. I no longer feel like I have a second rate media player on the Linux desktop.
- adiman7, on 06/11/2008, -6/+68Huge WTF? moment here... iTunes comes only for Windows and MacOS, and Banshee only for Linux...
I see no competition here. - Kingoftherings, on 06/11/2008, -4/+41Nice work Banshee Team. I still like Amarok, but Banshee could really give them a run for their money.
- Armor1901, on 06/11/2008, -2/+37Too bad there isn't a Windows version, I'd use it. Games are the only think that keep me on Windows. Sadly, COD4 multiplayer won't work on Ubuntu
- johneffort, on 06/10/2008, -12/+44This has become my new favorite player on Ubuntu !!
- SimonGray, on 06/10/2008, -6/+35Instructions for installing on Ubuntu: https://edge.launchpad.net/%7Ebanshee-team/+archiv ...
Works on intrepid, hardy and gutsy. - timf, on 06/11/2008, -1/+29There will be a Windows version "in the next couple of weeks"

- DarkDx, on 06/11/2008, -2/+25iTunes is awesome in Mac Os x, however on windows it¡'s crap
- gaminggeek, on 06/11/2008, -3/+25Mono is an opensource project like GCC just because microsoft made C# doesnt mean that mono is evil
- eightfivezero, on 06/11/2008, -2/+24Can't wait for the Windows version of it.
- HonoredMule, on 06/11/2008, -3/+24Yes, all I see is a media player/manager ripoff too.
Don't you people know that iTunes invented media libraries and relational databases? - leejarratt, on 06/11/2008, -2/+23Banshee = iTunes without the bloat.
- AdamFromMyspace, on 06/11/2008, -0/+21The whole ***** QuickTime install?
- chillfaktor, on 06/11/2008, -1/+21what money
- sandyarmstrong, on 06/10/2008, -1/+20Check out the release notes, man. You can of course make playlists and smart playlists, and in addition to blazing fast search you can browse by artist or album.
Compilation albums will be supported the way you describe in 1.1.
If you're going to whine and be insulting/offensive, at least do some research first. Maybe you could even install Banshee 1.0 and try it out so you can provide some *informed* criticism. - ukblacknight, on 06/11/2008, -0/+17For me, it has to be the interface. I can't stand Amaroks tree view interface for artists etc, and Banshee's library is perfect for me. No nonsense and easy to use.
- ukblacknight, on 06/11/2008, -0/+16No, thats Exaile.
- deuce868, on 06/10/2008, -5/+21This is rocking it up. The podcast support is much nicer and it "just worked" with my new creative zen player. Speed is a huge improvement and now I can't live without my banshee.
- BigDHimself, on 06/11/2008, -1/+17Nice program... it might slide in after Amarok and maybe before Songbird in my top 3 music players.
- inactive, on 06/11/2008, -5/+19iTunes sucks on both platforms. What else can you say about a media-management app that doesn't have a "sync" button? Or that won't show you WHERE it thinks a file should be when it claims the file is missing? Or that doesn't detect new files when you add them to your music directory?
And I hope the above comment about QuickTime was sarcastic; everyone knows QuickTime sucks ass regardless of platform. - livestradamus, on 06/11/2008, -1/+15amaroK on KDE & Banshee or Rhythmbox on all others.
- filipf, on 06/11/2008, -0/+13Why not? Tomboy, which is also written in Mono, already is Gnome's default note taking app.
- flxfxp, on 06/11/2008, -6/+19Brothers and sisters, please don't hate or judge a mediaplayer, but love them all alike.
Except RealPlayer.
iTunes is on the dangerous side. - sandyarmstrong, on 06/10/2008, -5/+18I've said it before and I'll say it again: if you're remotely interested in Last.fm, this is the best way I've found to experience it. It's easy to set up stations, you can love/hate tracks, your music gets scrobbled (if you enable it), and you get a great summary view of your Last.fm activity. Banshee is pretty freaking fun.
- sqwidget, on 06/11/2008, -3/+16And the wait continues for Songbird 1.0...
- ShashPant, on 06/11/2008, -3/+16One of the best Gnome player out there. and with video support it will be great addon to Linux desktop.. Hope Intrepid comes with Banshee by default :)
- 1980Tim, on 06/11/2008, -2/+14 You can find instructions online for how to save a Word document. Does that mean windows is hard to use?
Linux is not windows or OSX, people who are new to it may need instructions to learn their way around because it IS different. SimonGray was just helping out the new guys. - MutantFruit, on 06/11/2008, -0/+12I can see you're one of those smart people who actually uses a piece of software before trying to blast it.
Kudos. - 1807, on 06/11/2008, -0/+12This videogame sucks I can't even download it (j/k)
- mickstephenson, on 06/11/2008, -0/+12Yes, I'd like to see it incorporate all the functionality of Totem, then ditch both Totem and Rhythmbox in favour of the combined player. Unfortunately Banshee doesn't yet do dvd's (but then again totem doesn't do dvd-menus, so it wont be that hard to implement to the same level).
- K3ITHK, on 06/11/2008, -0/+11Not yet anyway, they say they will release for Windows and osx soon.
- ausdigger, on 09/15/2009, -1/+12what's better about Banshee compare do amarok?
Seriously asking, not dissing banshee.
I'm using xfce and can run both.
have been happily using amarok for a while now. - mickstephenson, on 06/11/2008, -0/+11FSpot too
- BlaenkDenum, on 06/11/2008, -0/+11Not trying to prove anything, would just like to point out that C# and the CLR (Common Language Runtime, the virtual machine component of Microsoft .NET) are open standards, ECMA-334 and ECMA-335
- DR3MA, on 06/11/2008, -0/+10Its really cool, but its missing some features,
You can't set custom album covers :(
The album covers are only showed on a tiny pic on the top (at least for me)
No .cue file support (can't split big mp3's and simulate tracks like amarok)
Can't custom arrange my collection.
And other stuff I don't remember.
But still, I really like it. - svensksvamp, on 06/11/2008, -2/+12It's quite obvious how it's inspired by iTunes. They have taken a great concept and done it better, at least in some areas.
- h0er, on 06/11/2008, -1/+11I actually wanted to download it, but got in a depression when I noticed it wasn't for Windows (yet)
- Kingoftherings, on 06/11/2008, -3/+13@dullnation
Dragging and dropping is for pussies. - HonoredMule, on 06/11/2008, -1/+11My media players "just worked" right up until I bought an iPod. Only then did filesystem access disappear, a ***** music manager get shoved down my throat, and my music player become a black hole where things go in but don't come back out. I hate to think how much worse it might have been had I been stupid enough to accept DRM'd media from the iTunes store.
Thankfully, the open source community has been on hand since to mitigate Apple's /ease of use/. - daftman, on 06/11/2008, -3/+12Opensource does not means it is not patent encumbered.
It's not the C# bit that people worry about. It's the .NET framework
Given that Balmer is screaming that Linux infringes 200+ Microsoft's patent, I wouldn't go near Mono.
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mono_(software)#Mono_ ... - moog, on 06/11/2008, -0/+9It doesn't change the rip-off-ness of it, but it does change the fact that iTunes CAN'T "suck it" because they don't compete in the same space. :P
- inactive, on 06/11/2008, -0/+9Yea, software is the main reason I stay on windows but this product seems like a winner :]; wish I could use it.
- keeperofkeys, on 06/11/2008, -0/+9I agree. I'm still on Windows, but it actually feels quite good to read about something cool I can't currently use...
- knight666, on 06/11/2008, -0/+9Future compatible!
- inactive, on 08/26/2008, -0/+8sudo aptitude install apturl
- MutantFruit, on 06/11/2008, -3/+11A dingus says what? Why, it looks like he's trotting out FUD. FUD with no proof or backing. I bet he doesn't even know what areas of the EMCA'd .NET specification that banshee uses.
- dustinhoffman, on 06/11/2008, -0/+8It does, in fact, have a sync button... as well as telling you where it thinks a file should be (it will go to the last location the file was used from)... you are right that it doesn't autodetect... but there have been many times that I put a folder in "My Music" that I didn't want automatically added to my library.
- pckbeta, on 06/11/2008, -0/+8I think we can all agree its nice to have a gnome music player that's not Rhythmbox Ugly. I can finally drop all my KDE libs!
