- baron1984, on 07/30/2008, -0/+9Apple sucks, why are you buying music from them to begin with?
Bunch of stuffed suits with an army of lawyers and a listing of highly questionable products, both in pricing and quality, besides, Foxconn makes a lot of their crap.
I'm starting to become physically ill that I bought a Foxconn board, especially after reading about the "iPod City" sweatshop they were running, 100 Chinese people in lice infested dorms, they live their lives working 70 hours over 6 days in a week, so spoiled brats can have toys. - bigBadOwl, on 07/31/2008, -0/+6From what I understand, it simply gives people the ability to listen to music they paid for. There is no circumvention, no DRM is removed and machines have to be authorised to play the DRM tracks. The letter the lawyers sent contains false allegations.
Apple - you disgust me. - Vadi0, on 07/30/2008, -1/+6"why are you buying music from them to begin with?" probably because you didn't know about these issues before. No other real reason to.
- baron1984, on 07/30/2008, -0/+4Buy your music in non-DRM files only, Amazon MP3 even points out their support of Linux and any portable or device you want to play the files on, unless you're an idiot that likes Microsoft or Apple's handcuffs, then by all means, keep buying from iTunes and Zune Store..
- Rolcol, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3Either 1) Backup your site regularly to be able to move to another host quickly or 2) Host it yourself. If your ISP shuts you down just change to another one. You keep the server along with the info.
- mlynn5, on 07/31/2008, -0/+2Looks like they succeeded: el tunes 0.2 is no longer available for download from their site:
"Unfortunately, Apple has taken it upon themselves to once again bully our web host into forcing us to remove our downloads of El Tunes. However, this host has been far more professional in allowing us to keep our site up. If you'd like to download El Tunes, please visit any of the major torrent sites on the web where it is now available and check back here from time to time for more information."
I'm seeding it. I don't even have any DRM'd files that I care about (a few free downloads from back when I had XP), but there is nothing wrong with the purpose of this software. Screw them. - theburningsoul, on 07/31/2008, -1/+3Linux Rules!!
- fatas, on 08/01/2008, -0/+1Apple sucks, and for the ignorant Linux users that buy Ipods you deserve this treatment.
If you are in the US use the Amazon mp3 store, they try to accommodate Linux users.
If you are outside the US use Nicotine.
***** Apple, Linux is a "cancer" - Vadi0, on 08/01/2008, -0/+1They failed again: http://digg.com/linux_unix/Apple_tried_and_failed_ ...
Let's see if we can get a strike going! - Vadi0, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1The new webhost caved in too. However, a torrent with all of the .debs and sources is up: http://torrents.thepiratebay.org/4321104/El_Tunes_ ...
- minervapractica, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1I'll seed as long as it's needed.
- Commodus, on 07/30/2008, -3/+1Hey, here's a shock - Foxconn probably isn't the only company doing that, and you probably own things made in similar conditions or worse.
I'd say an iPod is of better quality than most of what I see in the MP3 player section of the store. Most Creative players feel flimsy, and SanDisk isn't safe from that either. - Commodus, on 07/30/2008, -5/+1Why would anyone be shocked at a streaming plugin that would allow you to play a protected format without having legitimate decoding privileges? You can complain about FairPlay and DRM all you want, but don't be shocked when the company's creator tries to protect it.
