- Sparda, on 10/11/2007, -6/+43Not a day goes by that I don't use Amarok anymore. It does every thing that iTunes does, but with out sucking.
- danomagnum, on 10/11/2007, -4/+39"Amarok 2: It really whips the llamas ass"
- omarciddo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Jingles are so 50s.
We need some scantily-clad women sporting the Amarok logo. - theboyqueen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Amarok is FOSS. A jingle is the LEAST you could contribute!
- halter73, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8If you RTFA you would see the first line states the jingle is for "a distinctive new FIRST RUN theme".
- tonyr1988, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Then don't participate in the contest. What does it matter to you?
This is for a Free, Open-Source Software effort. I'm surprised at those prizes - I would expect them to be less than that. Tons of developers are constantly pouring their code into various F/OSS projects (like Amarok) with little-to-no compensation. Some people like to contribute for the purposes of contribution. - greyfade, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6They're likely licensing it either under creative commons or some other similar license. If it bothers you, tell them you're offering it under a license of your choice. Because, you know, that's how they operate.
- schestowitz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Jingle? how about xsnow in the background?
- Garfunkel, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Amarok is truly the god's audio player. It's sensational.
It would be cool if they use some deep radio announcers voice, like the guy who did the voice overs for Jurassic park - get them to say something like "Amarok... It really whips the lamas ass". - antiNeo, on 10/11/2007, -5/+8No matter what jingle they choose, I know the first thing I will do is disable it. Just like I disabled the splash screen.
- ATH025, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Oh man I love winning cool prices!!!111 Count me in!
- arjie, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I love Amarok, it works really nicely and the integration with Konqueror is pretty neat.
On a related note, win cool prices? Surely they can't be offering discounts! - idonthack, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3The point is it's automatically disabled afterwards, because it only plays the first time.
- amfantasy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I wish I could digg you up more, I loved that winamp.
- XVampireX, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I thought the prizes were actually pretty sweet :) money, fame, and t-shirts :)
- diggboy101, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5kde is one of the most full-featured yet elegant desktop environments on the planet! have you seen vista?
- spiffytech, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1He said "prices", not "prizes", as in the description. I wouldn't want to win them either.
- greyfade, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Well, they DO have t-shirts:
(old logo) http://www.cafepress.com/buy/linux+geek/-/pv_design_details/pg_9/id_6170198/opt_/fpt_
(US) http://www.spreadshirt.com/shop.php?sid=2718&search[text]=AMA
(EU) http://www.spreadshirt.net/shop.php?sid=49100&search[text]=Amarok - valan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2i wish it would keep your place in the track like itunes does, then I would switch. it's nice for podcasts
- TorinVlietstra, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Prices are bad, I don't want to win them.
- XVampireX, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"Winamp 6 needs a new first run jingle"
Oh, I thought it's only for Windows.
Dude, do you understand that it's a 2 way street? P.S: Amarok 2 is ported to all three platforms, so go ***** yerself. - XVampireX, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This is exactly what halter73 said, it's for a first run only, that's why you can disable it if you want afterwards.
- greyfade, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The code is actually quite clean and surprisingly easy to understand. Perhaps you could bang together a feature patch?
- EnsErmac, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1That doesn't mean KDE isn't bloated...
- TheSeeker11, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I suggest the Indiana Jones theme as the new jingle.
- bartcerneels, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Actually, Amarok 2 will run on all major platforms including Windows and Mac OSX. We can not promise anything or set a release date but thanks to kdelibs and Qt 4 porting will be trivial. Expect to see Amarok's market share grow beyond the free desktop.
- drzeus, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1"Amarok 2, [INSERT MISSING DESCRIPTION HERE], needs a new first run jingle. Use Magnatune.com samples on ccMixter.org to make a new one and win cool prices!"
Missing description: a music player for Linux and Unix
Thank you, that is all. - darkyoshi, on 10/11/2007, -10/+5It redeems the bloat of KDE.
- KSUdesigner, on 10/11/2007, -8/+2Oooh you'd get $100, a t-shirt and a key chain for something they get to distribute to "hundreds of thousands (some say even millions) of users." These kind of "competitions" are just a way to get something on the cheap. You're pretty much forced to give up all rights to your work, which means no royalties to you. What if your "jingle" became as recognizable as the Windows or Mac startup sounds? Wouldn't you want some sort of compensation, at least more than these "prizes" they give you?
- caro57, on 10/11/2007, -8/+1"Amarok 2: It really whips any fruit“s ass"
- ZephyrNinety, on 10/11/2007, -9/+2New Jingle=Who Let The Dogs Out?
- ryanfaith88, on 10/11/2007, -8/+1Win cool prices? Isn't it supposed to be free?
- vln004, on 10/11/2007, -8/+1wtf? is this it's own os now? i don't even like the os starting/shutdown jingle. Why are they wasting precious time on garbage?
