- emlprime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You know what would be better than an alphabetical guide? A topical guide. Linux commands grouped by File Management/Networking Information/Text Processors etc.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2But what if you don't know what to 'Man'. Problem with Man is you already have to know what command you're looking for help with.
http://www.gfx.com - aldreneo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1or...Esc, Esc, Esc. Then go thrue a list of over 2000 commands/programs
- znxster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2hrmm:
man command
info command
whatis command
locate bin/command
All this and more .. just a command shell away. No digg this is just man2html - JUDGE0, on 03/27/2008, -0/+1cooool
www.earndir.info - isbhod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0would be nice if this page had user comments on the commands rather than just the man entries like PHP and MySQL pages do. I have always found the practical knowledge in the user comments more helpful than the man entries. But hey this is just my opinion, I could be wrong.
- goofballjm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0These are all man pages. It's good to have a list of available commands, but the information on them is supplied from the command line.
- SmAcKaSs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, i used this site briefly... but there is no real need for it... i even think its inconvienient because you need to play the guessing game to find the right command... "Click, back, click, back..."
eh, whateva... - kimos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This isn't really helpful at all. Why not just 'man'? Then you don't have to open up a browser and find your bookmark? Besides, you can just Google the command if you don't have the man pages for whatever program installed... There are countless mirrors of them out there.
- aldreneo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice...Any linux n00b should bookmark this.
- F1R3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh yeah.. man is a bucket full of fun to read... this is a bit quicker and easier to get around in.. whether that means anything to the individual is up to them.. i think its pretty handy though..
- kutashi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0An entire list of commands is two key presses away in the Bash shell :P
(Tab, Tab)
Just "man" from there - Danielu, on 01/18/2009, -0/+0Very nice linux commands. I have also a directory, but is not related to Linux

"One command will bind them all."
(Learn to use 'man') - calebb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very cool site!
If you're stuck using on a Win32 system and can't live without your UNIX utilities, be sure to check out http://sourceforge.net/projects/unxutils - biffman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is cool. O'Reilly not only publishes excellent books but also has very informative sites. A very good find.
++ digg - michaeleq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can anyone say "man"? Please.
- MikeDawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I recommend "Linux in a Nutshell" (ISBN: 0-596-00930-5 ). It pretty much has the whole gambit of linux commands.
- jeezmos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you don't know the command you're looking for, "apropos" is another good help to find that special man page (i.e. # apropos ftp ... which finds all man pages with "ftp"). Or you can just use "man -k ftp" (apropos == man -k). But I think "apropos" is easier to remember.
- mr_mechanics, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lame, doesn't even have g77, f77, f95 or gfortran. no digg
- ph713, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Definitely useless. Much better would be a page in 30 point font called "All The Linux Info You'll Ever Need", which just points people at some common things like "man", and perhaps advises that most commands accept "--help" or "-h" for a quickie argument synopsis.
- lunarship, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ooh nice one. Immediate bookmark on that - always handy to have around, especially when I'm trying to find out which command I need to install from which rpm to do the thing I want to do but forgot to look through the packages for when I installed :-)
- v3xt0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've never seen anyone re-invent the wheel as much as O'Reilly has!
$ man man2html - rdeschain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0These types of directories are cool and useful, but what I (and likely other Linux extreme n00bs) really need is the reverse: a directory or listing of FUNCTIONS, and then their corresponding commands. Would save me some wading through Google results and Linux forums that can be less than gentle with n00bs. Listing commands does me no good when I haven't the faintest idea (aside from some of the more obvious) what any of them mean.
- dougr33d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No digg. This is practically useless.
Need to know how to use a command? Use 'man' or 'info'.
Don't know what command to use? Type 'man apropos'. - matelot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No examples = Worthless
"man" is your friend
no digg - hordak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0> hrmm:
> man command
if you don't know a command exists, how can you "man" for it!? ;) - funkytaco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@poster:
What znxster said is better as this does not mention what OS allows which command.
I also recommend the Rosetta stone for Unix:
http://bhami.com/rosetta.html - shazeubaa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"But what if you don't know what to 'Man'. Problem with Man is you already have to know what command you're looking for help with."
use 'man command' then.
The durn thing is almost as old as unix itself.
