- nextsteposx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sweet, GMAIL should use this.
- hax0rz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here is another web mail attempt:
http://www.georgenava.com/xul/mailer/mail.php
Also in XUL ;-) - jgee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1FYI it works well in Opera
- wsly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1umm... gmail is ajax based...
- triumph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It works in Safari 2.0.1, too. The real-time search mechanism is good, but may be problematic if there were many saved emails. Good start!
- dyefade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very nice, gmail even could learn from this.
- hadees, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why not just make thunderbird work in a browser, it uses XUL
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Awesome.. really nice work :)
I might just use this on a personal portal I'm building for myself.
Josh - comrade693, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd suggest making the mouse icon different when you are hovering over a link as well. Looks very nice.
- andr3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it still has some usability flaws, but looks ok.
don't forget if the connection is slow people will wonder if it's doing something. suggestion, make a notification to the user saying "loading" or with a turning wheel, hourglass, whatever. - mutant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0outpost.com (or whatever) was bought by yahoo -- they have an amazing ajax webmail client.. You can also get a commercially supported on here.. http://atmail.com/index.ehtml
- motionblur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wicked cool. Great work.
- kiddygrinder, on 06/08/2008, -0/+0see Afterlogic Webmail Pro:

- nuxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wunderbar. great digg.
and i would LOOOVE to see gMail look more like this. y'know what else'd be kinda cool, an AJAX-based web version of GoogleTalk. - G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0needs drag and drop :) Nice work though.
- Quagmire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0keep up the good work. Looks very nice.
- mbchandar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i am only seeing the test page. can i have a look at that mail client now?
- ericpp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Knight from Gustavus... hrmmm
Did you happen to work for a certain bankrupt Mankato ISP in 2001? - n3tfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nice work man, keep it up.
- Jotham, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wrote the webmail for ourbrisbane.com (free signup). It does the same thing (written before the AJAX buzz but using a similar technique). It also supports multi-select, drag-n-drop, short-cut keys, contextual menus, nested mail folders, column sorting, zip archiving support, etc and works in both Firefox and IE. (ie. you can shift or ctrl-select several documents and then drag them to the trash, or right-click and select delete, or just press the delete key).
I made use of IMP (LGPL) to do the mail viewing (does a good job with hyperlinks, colour coding replies, etc), and got permission to open source my code from ourbrisbane.com when I wrote it - couldn't find anyone interested in contributing/maintaining it though so it's not hosted anywhere. If you (the author) are interested in the source though let me know. (my email address is my username @ ourbrisbane.com - also in Help > About Webmail (F4 shortcut) in the app) - dubk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Works in opera 8.02 also.
- dm1030, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I fail to see how this is better then G-Mail. Good use of technology though.
- Noah0504, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's looking great! Keep up the good work!
- fleabag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0gmail uses ajax... cool site though you could setup your backend to do ldap lookups on the fly to in the compose message pane :)
- whalesalad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was about to attempt to make squirrelmail entirley CSS based, and then redesign it to incorporate AJAX. Hopefully this will work with my qmail install to spare me some work!
- calacode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Take a look at @Mail - http://atmail.com/ - It's a professional Webmail solution, that has multiple interfaces, including Ajax, XUL and normal HTML/CSS.
A well rounded Webmail package that goes the extra mile over the sea of free/half-finished and unsupported packages out there. - morpheus69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There is already a really cool open-source project called MailSaurus that does this. It includes drag and drop, expandable/collapsible tree menus, keyboard shortcuts, right-click menus and lots of great e-mail client features like an Ajax based spell checker, multiple e-mail profiles, import/export from Outlook, Outlook express, Thunderbird, Hotmail, Yahoo mail, etc... the list goes on and on...
You can get a free account at https://www.mailsaurus.com
You can download the source code from mailsaurus.sourceforge.net - anti-net, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very nice!!
- brilliant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Too bad XUL is not available on IE, meaning this web app will not run on most users' computers.
- rhyno2000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Interesting, but to compare this to GMail is absurd. Complete opposite ends of the spectrum. Gmail is a mature application, this is a student's technology demo.
