- Thater, on 09/19/2008, -4/+9Too bad, you'd be stuck with Gimp.
- ethana2, on 09/20/2008, -0/+52.6 is going to actually not suck, which is going to be completely awesome.

- John6000, on 09/19/2008, -0/+5:O Holodeck
- Viperidae, on 09/20/2008, -0/+5It does work on Linux actually
- Seidoger, on 09/19/2008, -0/+4But let's face it, what other operating system could it run? The big bad ass clustered systems run on Linux nowadays
I don't want to be fan boy for anything, just deep thinking. I ain't see such thing run Windows or anything else.
I think the news here is how awesome that thing is! - XVampireX, on 09/19/2008, -5/+9Regardless? No, that only shows how flexible linux is :) and on a quad core PC with just 2 GPUs? That seems rather reachable!
- QaSpel, on 09/19/2008, -0/+4I hear it also uses zeroes and ones.
- CCmachined, on 09/20/2008, -0/+4sure, you could simulate a Crisis on there.
wait, did you mean Crysis...!? virtual reality FPS, are you insane? you'd be killed in minutes. - webcrumb, on 09/20/2008, -0/+3All new!
BSOD 3D!
And coming soon!
BSOD Forever! - ethana2, on 09/20/2008, -0/+3Leave git out of this, lowly svn user.
- inactive, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3Whatever happened to virtual reality? It was big in the 90s and sort of died off.
- inactive, on 09/19/2008, -1/+4even vista?
- m1ss1ontomars, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3Some people from outside California don't understand that we have multiple UCs.
- h4mx0r, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3He means which University of California. There's several you know.
- rockstar1o9, on 09/19/2008, -0/+3Usually if it doesn't refer to a specific UC branch, it's referring to THE ORIGINAL University of California, aka UC Berkeley, aka California, aka Cal.
- inactive, on 09/19/2008, -1/+3I would love to run photoshop on something like this.
- goldfenix, on 09/19/2008, -1/+3That remind anybody else of the virtual reality deck in Sunshine?
Seen briefly in the trailer at 50 seconds.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZ2-xR54UDU - CCmachined, on 09/20/2008, -0/+2GIMP is awesome. ***** you.
- fooka, on 09/21/2008, -0/+2it would run fine if they would just port it, even if they just used libwine.. whatever..
- Disjunto, on 09/20/2008, -0/+2one machine for each pair, so 1 gpu for each projector. theres 17 of these machine for the setup. the VR room at my uni, has about 100 degrees of viewing, using 3 machines (6 projectors) running on windows (i have no clue why), the concept is not new
- 4321234, on 09/19/2008, -1/+3Say what?
- inactive, on 09/20/2008, -0/+2look in here at real computers, little boy
http://www.sgi.com/products/visualization/index.ht ...
if its got under 256 gigs of RAM it ain't a computer
???? - 032483, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1But how can I play in it?
- WhereAmI, on 09/19/2008, -5/+6Notice the lack of blue?
- telepwn, on 09/19/2008, -2/+3anyone else getting kinda sick of these "super high tech computer runs linux!!!1" stories?
I'm a linux user, and really, it just makes us seem desperate for digg's approval. - keyboardduder, on 09/19/2008, -1/+2But Undercity is already 3D!
- evanfp, on 09/19/2008, -1/+2when's the pron cave come out?
- wehrmanweb, on 09/20/2008, -1/+2Too bad Photoshop is 2d... Now messing around with Maya would be fun!
- BeefBaron, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1UNIVERSAL CONSTRUCTOR?
/JCDenton - cricketsymphony, on 09/19/2008, -5/+6correction: Linux run a 3-D virtual reality environment developed at UC
honestly the title shouldn't even include Linux, as it's mentioned just once - hardly a focus of the article. the things submitters do for the frontpage... - Jhiaxuz, on 09/19/2008, -2/+3I hope it'll turns me into a virtual boy.
- derrrface, on 09/19/2008, -0/+0multiple video projectors + psychedelic screen saver/animations driven by music + some ecstacy = eh, what was my point?
- TehDoctor, on 09/20/2008, -1/+1Heh. Good one. svn blows.
- inactive, on 09/21/2008, -1/+1Sure, why not.
- BlaenkDenum, on 09/19/2008, -3/+2The article says UC San Diego.
- lukis100, on 09/19/2008, -6/+5Which UC???? There are a lot of UCs...
San Diego btw... - TehDoctor, on 09/20/2008, -2/+1Same here, annoying git.
- madk, on 09/20/2008, -2/+1Why do all virtual reality systems look like they are using a graphics engine from the 80s? Isn't the technology really in the input and display? Why don't they lease the Unreal engine and just implement the rest?
- urbanguerilla, on 09/20/2008, -1/+0OK, so it's quite (very) cool, but the thing is epically humungajous. Tell them to email me when they've shrunk it down to a 1080p, curved 180 degree peripheral view, stereoscopic headset with head tracking that I can hook up to my gaming rig via blue tooth then I'll crack out the hard on.
- dullnation, on 09/19/2008, -4/+2WTF? I blocked schestowitz a long time ago and digg has unblocked him :S
- Meccabilly, on 09/19/2008, -8/+6That's the story? That it runs on Linux?
That's it. Schestowitz is on the list. - mingusmingus, on 09/19/2008, -6/+3i bet schestowitz is the life of the party.
