- MacLone, on 11/03/2007, -2/+8Well, then i say this again: This is the best review i have ever seen. A guy that actually used the distro enough time to know it before the review.
- daviddiaz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I've been using Ubuntu since version 5.10 a little more than a year ago. I've never had any of the issues that this person had with Ubuntu. Firefox works great, my wireless card required no setup, and I didn't have the DVD issues either. Pretty much I'm a happy camper right now with Ubuntu 7.04
I probably should try fedora too just to see how I like it. - clownguyx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I'm new to the linux world for the most part and I just ran in to the wireless problem the other day. I'm about to try to install and configure ndiswrapper for my Linksys USB Wireless G card and think this info may come in handy. If I'm not mistaken, I have to go find the .sys and .inf files that my card uses in Windows and copy those to some directory as well.
- YodaJones, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3After reading your article completely I decided to try out the live Fedora 7 CD.... Oh man! A lot of things that needed tweaking in Ubuntu 7.04 just worked in Fedora 7...including Beryl.
I now see your car analogy Mercedes and BMW is a good choice. I am a Mercedes kinda guy. - MrDiggDugg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2These are exactly the issues I had when first setting up ubuntu on a laptop. I got through it all and ended up with a distro that I liked well enough, but it was anything but 'simple'.
- anyweb, on 11/03/2007, -0/+2"awesome. a power user who know exactly how to break a system breaking a system.
if he'd tried to do it the way the wiki's/boards/irc rooms suggest, he'd not have a problem."
so are you saying that everyone who installs ubuntu must do it the way the wikis/boards/irc rooms suggest and have no problems ?
"he talks about not having his favorite chat client installed like it's the end of the fscking world. gaim has an irc client. and 7.04 was out BEFORE pidgin."
i use xchat in windows and linux, it's my preferred irc client., i use gaim for msn messenger and gmail. I don't want to use it for IRC.
gaim was renamed to pidgin the week before 2007-04-08 (see > http://www.pidgin.im/index.php?id=177 ), Ubuntu 7.04 was released 2007-04-19 so my point remains. (see http://osnews.com/story.php/17730/Ubuntu-7.04-Released )
"and the mplayer issues. OF COURSE he has to be a fscking power user, and not use the default totem/rhythmbox combo. this article is drivel, and patently anti-ubuntu"
I covered mplayer, totem and rhythmbox in detail, i prefer mplayer to totem, does that make the article drivel ?
Did you bother to read the positive points I gave to Ubuntu ? here's a hint > http://linux-noob.com/review/ubuntu/7.04/part6#conclusion
"Ubuntu is Linux for Human Beings, not Linux for OS Elitists who Bitch When They Try Non-Traditional Software Configurations.
I use it
my computer illiterate friend uses it.
my 50 year old aunt uses it.
'nuff said."
I complain when anything doesnt work in any linux distro i've tried, don't believe me ? see here (fedora/suse/sled10/ubuntu/smoothwall)

thanks for your feedback but I do feel that you didn't read the article in it's entirety and definetly didn't understand it.
cheers

'nuff said. - anyweb, on 11/03/2007, -3/+4no, it's no record. the ISP has some issues with the line and it's all restored now, apologies for any inconvenience.
- manogamez, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1What he's not showing is how ***** you are when you have an ATI card. You can get it to work with all of that....If you want to go insane.
Now that I'm insane, I think Ubuntu is pulling me back to sanity. - Rittersmann, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I for one am happy to see this review, now people can make the educated choice not to use Ubuntu.
- SweetMercury, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15 diggs and it's already down?
Is this a record?

What is Digg?
