- Darkhacker, on 08/13/2008, -0/+1I was pleasantly surprised to see this. I went to Johnson County Community College (JCCC) last year, and yes, I am a Linux user. I have doubts as to whether it's really 15% to 25% though. I've met Linux users there, but I have a feeling that this is extremely unbalanced. Also, all the school computers are Windows. Students and faculty may use Linux on there own machines, but all the school computers (that I've seen anyway) are Windows. There may be exceptions in the some of the computer courses where they use Linux, but the official OS for campus computers is Windows XP.
Another interesting thing to note is the topic of Firefox. The school does have Firefox on their systems, but it's severely outdated. They are still using 2.0.0.1. They never even did any of the security updates which really surprised me.
Also, there is an error in the description. JCCC is not located in Kansas City, Missouri. It's located in Overland Park, KS. Although Overland Park is part of the KC metro, you should at least say "Kansas City, KS" (not MO) if you're going to identify it's location by the metropolitan. - surfinusa555, on 08/14/2008, -0/+1We had to use linux as bio majors. Our protein sequencing software was linux only. So I guess it's possible.
- Ademan, on 08/14/2008, -0/+1No, you said "I call *****." There weren't claims regarding statistics anywhere outside of that particular college as far as I saw, so were you just extrapolating those statistics to all colleges and then calling ***** on your own thought?... Otherwise it sure looks like you called ***** on the claims the video ACTUALLY made, which would make what i said rather relevant...
- newsboys, on 08/14/2008, -1/+1OMG,
I JUST said, that even if it is that high at her college, I doubt it can be generalized elsewhere, as overall Linux use is much too low to support such a statistic. Fail. - Ademan, on 08/14/2008, -1/+1"It's not true here therefore it can't be true ANYWHERE!"
It's not news because it's commonplace and follows the norm... - n0odles, on 08/13/2008, -1/+1ZOMG! I'm in love....
- newsboys, on 08/14/2008, -2/+1I call *****. I'm in university, and most students only know the basics of how to get around Windows or Leopard -there's no chance they could survive an hour on Linux, let alone use it regularly. Linux only accounts for 1% of all personal computer's operating systems. There is no way the college crowd could come anywhere close to 25%, and I *highly* doubt even 15%
If it is that high at *her* community college, I highly doubt this statistic can be generalized to the rest of colleges. - inactive, on 08/13/2008, -4/+2She should stop grinding her teeth like that.
