- liquisoft, on 10/05/2008, -5/+74Congrats to the designers. These all suck.
- razlken, on 10/04/2008, -3/+71Honestly only a couple look good the others suck...probably gonna stick with my default GUI
- ilmmad, on 10/05/2008, -1/+42Most of these are incredibly unattractive. There is a reason people are trained to design GUIs.
- kd420, on 10/05/2008, -0/+28Some look good, but most are WAY too busy. I don't want to have to squint, or look around a bunch of ***** to see the information. Regardless, I'm waiting for them to release the version that supports the new iPod Classic, at least to try. The UI seems pretty laggy with the default firmware, and in my experience if theres anything open-source software guarantees, it's that there is no software bloat.
- Bense, on 10/05/2008, -1/+19They always go for these ultra technical appearances. It would be nice if they made something ultra simple that you can easily adjust without putting glasses on.
- MasteRR, on 10/05/2008, -1/+18Why are you surprised? It's DRM. The songs are crippled, not the player.
- mattrud, on 10/05/2008, -3/+18they uh... all suck.
default, easy to use UI FTW - BlaqReaper, on 10/05/2008, -1/+15Glad to see Rockbox is getting some publicity on Digg. Even if the GUI doesn't look as good, look into Rockbox guys. It has more support for audio codecs, more EQ settings, and even has a gameboy emulator (and Doom/Pac-man/other games). It's truly awesome.
- mynameistux, on 10/05/2008, -2/+15why were you stupid enough, to download drm'd songs?
http://drm.info/files/images/Tied-Purple.preview.j ...
what if you want to use, uh, something other than an iPod and iTunes, you would be ***** anyway.
DRM is the real culprit here. - redbytex, on 10/05/2008, -3/+14It's like installing MySpace on your iPod.
Disgusting. - 0260, on 10/05/2008, -3/+11Hate to see people talk ***** about rockbox because they don't like the themes. Making a theme yourself is relatively easy and those folks at rockbox spent the good part of the last 7 years making the best damn firmware replacement ever on 28 different players.
- wafflesomd, on 10/05/2008, -1/+9As said above. The DRM is the problem, not the player.
- phantomzer0, on 10/05/2008, -2/+9Those are absolutely disgusting. Complete waste of time.
- oatdc, on 10/05/2008, -0/+7rockin? really?
- bchow, on 10/05/2008, -0/+6Using Rockbox for the themes is like buying a car based on its radio.
Sure it's nice to have choice, but the killer argument for using Rockbox
is not some mindless bling, but it's overall better performance.
I've used Rockbox for over 3 years now and would *never* accept
a feature limited firmware like the current Ipod flavors now. The Ipod
firmware looks nice, but has serious deficits on the audio side.
My theme: Large, readable black font on a single color background,
much like the first Ipods. Look boring, but as I don't look at the screen
much when the Ipod is playing, I care about what I hear more. - jasmus, on 10/05/2008, -4/+10Make your iPod look like ass! Awesome!
- hellnick, on 10/05/2008, -1/+7The themes in this article are all pretty dire. Go to http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/WpsGall ... for the complete collection - some very innovative stuff.
- MasteRR, on 10/05/2008, -0/+6The problem, if I recall, is that the "Classic" has some firmware loading DRM now, so it will take cracking that to get Rockbox or any other non-apple firmware loaded. It's the same problem that is keeping Rockbox from being ported to the Zune.
- 0260, on 10/05/2008, -0/+6http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/CustomW ... here is the syntax
http://rasher.dk/rockbox/simulator/ here is the simulator
knock yourself out - roebeet, on 10/05/2008, -0/+5Rockbox will never support DRM.
But then again, neither should you. - KloroFormd, on 10/05/2008, -1/+6So... where's the Sansa e200 themes?
- thebrokenlight, on 10/05/2008, -2/+7Yeah, iTunes DRM is crippling enough.
- inactive, on 10/05/2008, -0/+5http://www.drivendesign.us/classic.html
- fakeplasticsnow, on 10/05/2008, -0/+4I would totally do this if they all didn't look like *****.
- yourbrokenoven, on 10/05/2008, -0/+4these all look HORRIBLE! who would put these on their ipod on purpose? bury bury bury bury bury!
- thebrokenlight, on 10/05/2008, -1/+5Reminds me of Mac OS 8.
- RJinLA, on 10/05/2008, -0/+4Yep, most of these suck. I'd be happy with an iPod default looking theme with the added extras of RockBox to be honest. For now I am just using Cabbie3, it's very basic, and not on this theme list at all, ironically. How did this get dugg so much?
- randyrandall, on 10/05/2008, -0/+4Why do they all look so bad? Is that intentional?
- MasteRR, on 10/05/2008, -0/+4Yup. 2nd/3rd gen nanos are the same way.
- Ricky138, on 10/05/2008, -0/+4guess im going to finally try to do this with my sansa tonight, hopefully find some better themes though, been bored with it
- inactive, on 10/05/2008, -1/+5If you had actually read any of the comments, you'd have noticed nobody has been talking ***** about Rockbox, only the ***** themes.
- MasteRR, on 10/05/2008, -0/+4Stupid threading. Bury.
- RJinLA, on 10/05/2008, -0/+4Encrypted Firmware on the classic's prevent RockBox from being put on there. Found that out recently when I wanted to upgrade. Ended up grabbing an 80gig 5.5 on eBay, specifically so I could use Rockbox for FLAC.
- dawnraid101, on 10/05/2008, -1/+4Play pokemon roms on you iPod! Awesome!
- joshualamgroup, on 10/05/2008, -0/+3Damn, i'll never get it for my nano 2nd gen then :(
- afruff23, on 10/05/2008, -2/+5I made a theme for the Gigabeat F:
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/WpsGiga ...
It's good for people who want lots of info with good album art options and good info displayed for the next track. - iXneonXi, on 10/05/2008, -3/+6Just installed version 3 for iPod Video 30GB last month. Rock on Rockbox!
- metapop, on 10/05/2008, -0/+3i think go kart is dead already.
- mykool, on 10/05/2008, -0/+3it doesn't replace the apple os, you can still boot into it. That would make me think iTunes will still work. Check the FAQ on the rockbox site, I'm pretty sure that question is answered.
- WELLDOITLIVE, on 10/05/2008, -0/+3I'd hit it
with a shovel zombie style - scy1192, on 10/05/2008, -2/+5Only works on iPod 5G and older. Classic's firmware is encrypted.
Anyways, I prefer iPodWizard, it's much easier than Rockbox. - quiggley, on 10/05/2008, -0/+3Unfortunately for both of us, the Rockbox team doesn't even want to try cracking the classic. Here's a thread on their forums that explains why.
http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=14871.0 - rhino369, on 10/05/2008, -0/+3And too bad the iPods make teh h3xx look as big as a laptop, and this is coming from a h300 user with rockbox. I would love a new Ipod with rockbox.
- MethodOne, on 10/05/2008, -0/+3You actually can with the iPod touch from the App Store.
- KloroFormd, on 10/05/2008, -0/+3I've had nothing but complete success with installing Rockbox on my Sansa e260. Good luck.
- kevnaca, on 10/05/2008, -0/+3Flow looks decent but the rest are ugly/hard to read and too cluttered.
- TheGuruStud, on 10/05/2008, -1/+4Then they're morons haha. And it's called DRMRemover, btw.
- AmusedToDeath, on 10/05/2008, -2/+5Honestly, why bother? Why put some gaudy crap on a device that works perfectly fine as it is?
- Technopundit, on 10/05/2008, -0/+3Most Apple / Itunes fanboys prefer to take their firmware rectally.
- crwl, on 10/05/2008, -0/+2Look at http://rockbox-themes.cleansoap.org/index.php?res= ...
