- Meep3D, on 04/08/2009, -1/+37WTF, half of the distro's on there are just Ubuntu modded. Where's DSL? Smoothwall? Hell, even Gentoo deserves to be on there more than Ubuntu CE.
Crap article. - AlanFang, on 04/08/2009, -3/+21rofl "Christian friendly applications"
- wesw02, on 04/08/2009, -2/+20Wow, 5 out of the 10 distros are ubuntu based ... someones an ubuntu fan?
- readme, on 04/08/2009, -1/+19I love giving the giant "***** you" to Symantac by replacing Norton Ghost with Clonezilla and Partition Magic with GParted.
- apothekari, on 04/08/2009, -1/+16Ubuntu studio is amazing.
So is Mythbuntu especially with the XBMC frontend. - armakaryk, on 04/08/2009, -1/+13what may i ask makes an application chrstian friendly?
- compulsive1, on 04/09/2009, -0/+12If you can't see breasts and genitals or copulation you are OK with Jesus!
Never mind images and videos of human suffering, sadism, murder, theft and general disrespect. As long as your kids don't get to see fornicators they will turn out OK in life. - ThatGeek, on 04/09/2009, -2/+12much love for the Ubuntu Satanic Edition
- maildave, on 04/08/2009, -2/+9My dear family, guess what. Today I found out what my special purpose is for. Gosh what a great time I had. I wish my whole family could have been here with me. Maybe some other time as I intend to do this a lot. Every chance I get.
- nix64, on 04/08/2009, -2/+9LMAO @ Ubuntu CE
- inactive, on 04/09/2009, -1/+7Ubuntu CE is claiming to offer parental control of harmful web content, yet it contains Christian applications. Flawed product.
- InorganicMatter, on 04/08/2009, -0/+6Agreed. EVERY SINGLE on of these "top 10" Linux articles totally forgets about firewall distros, which is arguably what Linux does best. ClarkConnect, Smoothwall, and Untangle are all great distros!
- dcast, on 04/09/2009, -0/+5There are definitely some better specialized distributions. Those are really just meta-packages for Ubuntu and its derivatives. How about GeeXBox, FreeNAS, Clarkconnect, IPCop, etc?
- moonboots, on 04/09/2009, -1/+6*someone's
- ATL, on 06/20/2009, -0/+4dugg for backtrack and mythbuntu
- HCviolence, on 04/09/2009, -0/+4For people who hate freeBSD because it has a cartoon devil.
- coldkill3r, on 04/09/2009, -2/+6Sorry, bury me. I just noticed the article mentioned Satanic Ubntu underneath the Christan Edition.
- moonboots, on 04/09/2009, -1/+4ubuntu ce has a very special purpose while gentoo has a general purpose.
- backguard, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3Good article but by an Ubuntu fan... several good distros got left out. They could have added 10 more easily... but maybe that's next weeks article.
- jgtg32a, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2I doubt it
- gabbagabbahey, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2It's like it's really popular right now or something.
- MattBD, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2I love INX:
http://inx.maincontent.net/
Another Ubuntu-based distro, I'm afraid, but it's still handy. It's basically a command-line only distro that works as a proof of concept to show you just how much can actually be done from the CLI (including surf the web graphically, and watch videos!), and to teach you more about using the command line. I highly recommend that anyone who wants to learn more about using the shell download a copy and run it as a live cd.
I also like Nubuntu (similar to Backtrack, it's a security oriented distro). - 4321234, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2Super grub disk. I downloaded the cd iso and burned it, and it turned out I got a chance to try it out a few weeks later. It worked as advertised, nearly automagical.
http://www.supergrubdisk.org/wiki/Boot_Problems - voteme4pope, on 04/09/2009, -2/+4In other words your a tool.
- SuicideMouse, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1Windows is also the only common OS with a registry as far as I know...
- SuicideMouse, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1Actually I don't think that really has much to do with it as much as it's brought up.
- inactive, on 04/09/2009, -1/+2Vector Linux, a Slackware descendant deserves mention. Anyone running on limited hardware or PC-104 boards should have a look. It is still a little bloaty for my taste, but nice. Good small, efficient, active embedded distributions are still rare. Gentoo as the major source distribution also deserves mention.
- kimme, on 04/16/2009, -0/+1I usually install the Ubuntu Studio bootloader on my regular Ubuntu desktop.
- freezerburn666, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1backtrack? haha
- ampdj89, on 04/09/2009, -1/+2My factory PC came partitioned into two parts, the WinXP installed 10GB and 200GB. Got frustrated every time I would install programs on the 10GB. But with Parted Magic, everything was fixed easy and simple without losing data. I recommend Parted Magic.
- huertanix, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1They forgot Knoppix STD.
- jsffive, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1The last time I tried to use parted magic to change the size of a partition, I lost all my data. It'll be a long time before I ever try that one again.
- MattBD, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1FreeNAS isn't Linux - it's actually based on FreeBSD.
- coldkill3r, on 04/08/2009, -2/+3http://ubuntusatanic.org/news/
- dcast, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1Woops, true enough. Thanks for the clarification.
- Myztry, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1For all who have ever sinned. Including the Christians who use their own interpretations to hit, or otherwise abuse their children (and others).
- oofki, on 04/09/2009, -1/+1No ESX? Fail.
- Feldon, on 04/09/2009, -2/+2Dugg it for Ubuntu CE got to love it
- ieee, on 04/09/2009, -1/+1If installation of *serious* software was easier there wouldn't be a need for special distributions. For example. If I could install MythUbuntu at the push of a button and do nothing else.
- kicken18, on 04/09/2009, -1/+1You can do a reg hack to put the default install to the 200GB...
- nelson8403, on 04/09/2009, -1/+1Dugg for Backtrack, I love that program, made finding all the programs for my Certified Ethical Hacker cert easy too. I liked it better when it was slackware though
- fuzzymuzzy, on 04/09/2009, -2/+2I don't know about you but I would much rather have a couple of different quirky distro's like UBUNTU CE than the same old gentoo slackware ubuntu debian etc. that everyone slightly interested in linux knows about
- greenvortex, on 04/15/2009, -1/+1No, actually I am "The Jerk (1979)". And it is "you're". You're welcome.
- md10, on 04/10/2009, -0/+0Too bad that there's no distribution that meets the general public's need. But I'm holding my breath for Ubuntu Terrific Turd.
- geauxtig3rs, on 04/09/2009, -1/+1Easily could have filled the whole list with firewall distributions.
I really want to see a full backtrack integrated with gentoo. - fiverock2, on 04/09/2009, -2/+1Is that from the movie "The Jerk"? Haven't seen it in years, but it sounds a lot like a letter he sends home to his family.
- greenvortex, on 04/09/2009, -2/+1I have a special purpose!
- dontreplytome, on 04/09/2009, -1/+0No he can't, Windoze Suxorz, remember?
- Inoeth, on 04/09/2009, -4/+2i'm a fan of Ubuntu Satanic Edition. good fun.
- computershack, on 04/09/2009, -3/+1Err, didn't we do this story only the other day?
