- mclewell, on 03/23/2009, -0/+9I do believe that GIMP and Krita were mentioned.
- piratebill, on 03/23/2009, -0/+7Did you even read the article?
- kloog, on 03/23/2009, -11/+17buried for adding "/Editors" to the title
No editors are mentioned in the article. - spritom, on 03/23/2009, -1/+6Ack! Geek Linux list!
*diggs for later use* - Killeroid, on 03/23/2009, -0/+4Linux apps aren't fugly, its the window manager(wm) theme of the person who took the screenshot. Your window manager themes all your apps. If you have an ugly wm theme, your apps all look ugly. If you have a beautiful wm theme, your apps look beautiful. You should know that since you claim to use linux.
- gweedo767, on 03/23/2009, -1/+5It should be noted that Picasa does run through WINE and had some funkyness with direct download from USB cameras.
- fotoman, on 03/23/2009, -0/+4Umm... where the hell is GQview? As probably the only professional photographer here, I'm surprised that this program isn't on the list. Been using GQview as my main photo viewer for 8+ years. When I'm not using my own workflow application to go through photos, GQview is the fired up next (well, it's always running...): viewer, slideshows, EXIF viewer, sorter. etc
- YouAreDead, on 03/23/2009, -2/+6feh is an excellent software for image viewing..it's not only powerful but also very easy to use
- Cannabix, on 03/23/2009, -1/+4Good thing they aren't all unique in the same way.
- compson13, on 03/23/2009, -3/+6some pretty good information for linux users
- iridesce, on 03/23/2009, -0/+3Gwenview - its easy for the non-cli crowd, does a good job on folder presentation, minor image tweaking and even plays most video formats
- ptFoe, on 03/24/2009, -0/+2what a moron Irfanivew has one of the most ugliest interfaces
- Killeroid, on 03/23/2009, -0/+2Are you serious? There are always other alternatives for any given type of software on Windows too(on any popular platform infact)
- DivineMonkey, on 03/23/2009, -1/+3I usually just use xbmc and Gwenview. Haven't really tried many others.
- Rudegar, on 03/23/2009, -0/+2well the wm and skin and gm
the screen-shot taker use makes a lot
of difference too - andyboyd, on 03/23/2009, -3/+5Irfanview is another great and free app which has been around for ages. Its not only easy and intuitive, but also does lots of what you want for using images and it runs well under Wine.
- BobDle, on 03/23/2009, -0/+2KuickShow ftw
- johnnyzero, on 03/23/2009, -0/+2I prefer gqview for quickly viewing images while jumping through directories.
- Pnevma, on 03/23/2009, -1/+3No mention of Comix or Mirage? They're probably the best on Linux for quick image viewing.
http://comix.sourceforge.net/
http://mirageiv.berlios.de/ - FritoPendejo, on 03/23/2009, -4/+5There should be a new list for Linux GUIs that most resemble software from 1992.
- IHaveIssues, on 03/23/2009, -0/+1http://www.xnview.com/en/features.html
- skazhy, on 03/23/2009, -2/+3IMHO f-spot is the best for organizing your pics & galleries, and eye of gnome for quick view.
- fotoman, on 03/23/2009, -0/+1ImageMagick from the command line and give Krita a look for a GUI.
- inactive, on 03/23/2009, -0/+1phatch
its a batch processor with a nice gui.. easy to use. i like it - irishjays, on 03/23/2009, -1/+2... and what other via-wine viewers apply?
- xCIone, on 04/15/2009, -3/+4What a useful sub.thanks for this one
- johnnyzero, on 03/23/2009, -0/+1ImageMagick, convert/mogrify
- trolleyfan, on 03/23/2009, -0/+1"They are all unique in their own way"
Note to author: Look up definition of word "unique..." - Logrusmage, on 03/23/2009, -1/+2What's wrong with these GUI's? I see nothing wrong with most of them, and the others are just going for ultimate simplicity.
- shadowman99, on 03/23/2009, -0/+1The article doesn't display properly in firefox 3.0.7 (page cuts off at FEH) but it works in IE. Grrrr...
- shadowman99, on 03/23/2009, -0/+1GQView will hold your most recent target directories for copy operations in the copy/move drop down windows.
- FyberOptic, on 03/23/2009, -1/+2GIMPshop is such a useless program, it doesn't even deserve to be mentioned as a separate product. The idea is awesome: to give GIMP a Photoshop-like interface. The result however is GIMP put inside an MDI structure with a menu. That's pretty much it. It's still the same old GIMP windows floating around in the menu, and still with their own file menus and crap. It's really a terrible attempt at a good idea. I still only use plain GIMP when given the option.
- 4321234, on 03/25/2009, -0/+1It's a great free closed source app, but it is sure fugly.
- sremick, on 03/24/2009, -0/+1s/Linux/"Any unix-like OS"/
- iridesce, on 03/23/2009, -0/+1Works fine for me with 3.07 in Windows ( I'm at work .... )
- Claverhouse, on 03/24/2009, -0/+1Unfortunately most of the standard wm themes provided by Opensuse are pretty dreck.
I'm using 'Twilight', on the linux I claim to use. But it's imperfect, and I'd like apps with their own unique styling. [ Oddly, although I'm on KDE 4.1, the Opensuse installation adds both KDE 4 and KDE 3 versions of most apps, and the KDE 3 versions --- say of Amarok --- are more clearer and do not reference the wm theme at all, being white... ] - Rapax, on 03/24/2009, -0/+1Why not just add a bunch of imagemagick/convert commands to your right-click menu? I have right/left rotate and resize to the most standard sizes in a 'convert' submenu.
- inactive, on 03/23/2009, -0/+0Probably you were expecting text editors. You need this title I guess "Image Viewer/Image Editors".
- IHaveIssues, on 03/23/2009, -1/+1I LOVE Xnview: http://www.xnview.com/en/download.html
- yahoofrom, on 03/23/2009, -4/+2There's no editor there!
diggers, what linux image editor do you recommend?
feature :
* resizing image, cropping image
* change image format
* annotation
And please don't GIMP me. - Claverhouse, on 03/23/2009, -5/+1I dunno why Linux apps are so fugly.
I miss Irfanview ( and no, I can't get it working under Wine with my present set-up; besides which one apparently requires a dll from a windows system which rather imples one needs windows first in order not to have windows... )
Irfanview, apart from any other awesomeness, has the ability to preset around 14 directories for moving/copying etc.; which means one opens an image and can copy it variously with a few clicks: I can't find this on any of the viewers linux offers. - peterbye, on 03/23/2009, -6/+3Buried for F-Spot
Just say NO to Mono - fandyllic, on 03/23/2009, -6/+2Buried for misleading title: "10 Best Image Viewers/Editors for Linux" The actual article is really only about viewers with little or no editing capability.
- ModernGeek, on 03/23/2009, -6/+1This list proves that Linux will probably never be mainstream on the desktop because of the lack of ease and elegance in the user interfaces. I suppose artists and industrial designers are expensive and not willing to work for free. The underlying technologies are powerful, but the interfaces are crap.
- RonBurgundy76, on 03/23/2009, -7/+1I like Linux and Open Source, but the fact that there are '10 Best' of any given type of software on the platform is one of its problems...
