- isewise, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7These things have been quite popular on Digg recently.
And why does the machine crack on egg on Ramen soup, that's gross!- nannerla, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27Cracking eggs into noodles is quite common in Japan because it helps you to slurp the noodles quickly, it is japanese tradition to eat quickly.
- msaleem, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Plus it tastes great too.
- Rosco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I have to agree with msaleem, egg on ramen has a great flavor
- lordthor, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2yes, and of course you would cook it first. (They didn't get that far with the machine)
- opita, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Actually is the water is sufficiently hot it will cook the egg, enough to be eatable.
- ketsugi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Cooking is pretty much optional, as far as the egg is concerned. If you have reasonable food and health regulations that will assure you that your egg is very unlikely to contain salmonella or other nasty germs, try it. Raw egg mixed into your noodles is fracking delicious!
On the other hand, over here (in Singapore, and I assume in other parts of South-East Asia as well), eating raw eggs in your food is pretty common. Raw egg in porridge (congee/gruel), raw egg in hot chocolate (don't ask; I've never tried THAT one)... - Bokista, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5When I was a little kid it used to freak me out when I went over to my Japanese friend's house and they were putting egg in their ramen. But I did learn that it is pretty delicious.
- snapcase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's a raw egg. Raw egg in noodle dishes (and other dishes) is pretty common. Though, I'd say the title of this is kinda misleading. Those noodles were already cooked.
- ipugh, on 10/12/2007, -25/+5No habla espanol :(
- Skyfire, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Yeah, it's a cool video and everything, but the yelling Japanese guy is bringing me beyond insanity.
- srg13, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16What are you talking about! The yelling guy is hilarious!
- Joe_rigby, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Yea, I'm glad I can't speak whatever language that was because it could confirm my suspicion that that guy is a dumbass.
- lordthor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16God, yes, that annoying bastard - What could he possibly have been saying so enthusiastically for so long!?
"and it's going! it's still going! look at it go! wow, it's really going! now watch it go another way! did you just see it go!? wow, it went some more!" - joel.smith, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4omg, I know.. I eventually ended up just closing it because the guy was giving me a headache!!
very neat video, though. thanks! +d - exick, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7None of you are familiar with the volume control on your speakers, computer, or the video player itself?
- spectre_25gt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2He was going into a pretty detailed play by play, but that's about all I could understand.
- panique, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I found all the on-screen graphics (and banner ads) to be much more annoying.
- pants428, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i didn't even listen to the sound, i muted it immediately...but now i kinda am hungry for ramen
- bossm4n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Rube would be proud.
- panique, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah. This one mops the floor with all of the ones posted yesterday.
- zyopski, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2How absolutely imaginative!!! Excellent, Amazing and Fun!
- Killah_xxx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Take that "Rube Goldberg Honda-Ad", Hah!
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Cool thing about the Honda ad was they were all pieces of the car. A themed Rube Goldberg device trumps a non-themed one.
- Killah_xxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh yeah... Sorry forgot that detail ;)
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Cool thing about the Honda ad was they were all pieces of the car. A themed Rube Goldberg device trumps a non-themed one.
- conspirito, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Great to see a Rube Goldberg that is by def A ridiculously complex machine created to do an overly simple task!
- Phaedrus73, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Interesting, putting on egg on Ramen. I've been trying to think of a way to bring myself just that much closer to a heart bypass operation.
That so made me think of Iron chef with the guy getting so excited in the background. That was one of the most crazy goldberg projects I've ever seen.- daRoach, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3You must be fat.
- namit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Hehe thats deadly i wish i could have that in my house next one to build is one that makes toast.
- BlackSheepx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7*waiting for paper to catch on fire* Hoyaaadokoyadoyawhaa
*flame lights*
DAKEEBASHTANANANAANANAAKSLJSKD - Eaglefire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27My friends and I love making these things:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=l5vIPK50bTE
http://youtube.com/watch?v=27JE_98O6zQ
http://youtube.com/watch?v=m_Sb9cvmRTg
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ppDY2L80PvA - CorpT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2See, now that one was a real Rube Goldberg thing. It actually does something unlike the other ones lately. Very nice set up.
- firehydra2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Now this is not any ordinary Rube Goldberg Video...this is one with commentaries. How kick ass is that? They should ignite a burner at the end :).
- mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The commentaries remind me of that TV show on the spanish channel.
- nthpro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6wow... I didn't know you get that excited over a Rube device. But the Japanese commentator proved me wrong for sure! Nothing like listening to some guy scream in a language you have no grasp of.
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Well atleast it does acctualy make food, and doesn't just shoot you
- Ben - YmerejO42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd be willing to bet that the guy yelling is a host of some sort, since that looks like some type of game show...
- h4lofourt33n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The video is pretty cool, but the only problem is the length of the video and the annoying announcer screaming, especially when they light that wick thing.
- ryan89, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1I have my own device to cook ramen. It's called a stove.
Video? Cool. Guy? Annoying. So, just mute it and put on some of your own music! Crazy though. Ka-ray-zee. - yahoofrom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Imagine the video with English subtitle.
- Wavey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I guess it's probably inherently tough to film a video of a Rube Goldberg device so that the viewer knows exactly what is going on with it, step by step. But I have to say, while the contraption was pretty cool (I always love to watch these things), the videography wasn't all that great.
The beginning of the video has a ton of overlayed Japanese text over it, obscuring what is going on (the text probably added later and not the fault of whoever filmed this in the first place, but still). Then there are too many poor camera angles in the rest of it, with a few instances of bad transitions where all of a sudden you're looking at a too-closely-zoomed-up image of something, and you're not sure what it is, what is happening with it at the moment, and how it fit into what happened previously.
And oh yeah, I had to turn my speakers off about 3 seconds into the play-by-play commentary by that over-caffeinated announcer.
Still, these contraptions are pretty cool, and kudos to the people who make these things.- ketsugi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The overlaid text at the beginning was the "This program was brought to you by the following sponsors" message. Apparently the device began right at the start of the show, or something.
- jasongetsdown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1good god, SHUT UP
The filmwork was much better in the last one from the Japanese kids show. and the composition of it was more artful as well, with all of the household items. - futoranime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5For those who may not know where this is from, this clip is from the Japanese TV show "TV Champion". Each episode has the best people of a certain thing compete to become the best in Japan. Recently they had the best Lego builder, the best anime figurine maker, and the crazy "otaku of akihabara" shows. Hopefully someone will torrent the full show. Seems to be as good as the Lego show.
http://www.gameaddicthotline.com- KamikazeH20mln, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks for the info! Very informative.
That and the girlfriend loved the video.
- KamikazeH20mln, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks for the info! Very informative.
- knightblade2oo4, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Of all the things for a JAPANESE rube goldberg machine to make, it made ramen? ***** ramen?
And that guy had a goddamn orgasm over it as well. - liquidrums, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Them asians sure love their noodles!
- tombomb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well, Ramen is pretty damn tasty...
- antdude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This reminds me of the beginning of The Back to the Future movie when it was time to feed the cat!
- YourTechSupport, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Damn that was cool. But I could have probably eaten the bowl in that time.
Why doe every announcer sound like he's easily excited? - jockser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love these crazy jap movies, but i i always have to turn the volume off.
do you realy have to yell like a lunatic ? - Shawn1141, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3BOWLING BOWLING BOWLING
- FRAGaLOT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i can't get the video to appear. The entire page loads up just fine EXCEPT there's a big blank spot where the video is supposed to be. Firefox and IE both do this. Sooo... any mirror links?
- Xiata, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1YouTube is down right now (updating something on their site). Check back in a few hours.
- protocoI, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3YouTube.com, where it is hosted, is down for repair, that's why it's blank.
- FRAGaLOT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Been over 12 hours.. still not working. I was really curious to know how the egg is cooked. Poaching an egg when the noodles are cooking sounds like a good idea. Making me hungry! I'll see if I can find this directly on Youtube, thanks!
- jrsims, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All hail Japanese TV.
- rcomegys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That was actually a lot of fun... especially the ending. I don't quite get the Yokohama theme, but hey, I admire the machine.
- tiyuri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is the comment at the bottom of the page...
"The video isn't ABOUT making ramen: The title is "A date in Yokohama," the ramen is simply the last part of the date, titled "a meal in china-town."
Before the meal, the date supposedly went through various things like bowling and deep-sea adventures and somesuch."
So at least some of that yelling must have actually helped in explaining something - Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Only the Japanese... Itzu so kureji!
- kern6960, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0seems diggers really love rube goldberg machines...lol. Perhaps we should have a contest here to make some intense one that posts a digg story :-)
- TaeianTwist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Coolest. Thing. Ever.
I've known that Japanese love egg on almost anything (I've even seen them put it on their burgers) but on ramen, that just sounds interesting, must try tomorrow. - Norse77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1all I can say is WOW
