"um why can't i see in the center of my field of vision"
"am i having a stroke?"
"why are there all these twinkleys?"
then comes the real fun. blinding pain and vomiting! - timewarp424, on 09/25/2008, -2/+36I like the symbolic language the author used to convey what a migraine feels like. I could never stretch my mind so far as to think of the brain in terms of the cpu. A cpu exceeding its limits. Beautiful.
- Herostratus, on 09/25/2008, -1/+23Heh,
And I usually have to shell out good money to get those types of effects... - jeevesatvic, on 09/25/2008, -3/+23Mirror: http://www.migraine-aura.org/content/e27891/index_ ...
(At the top, there are several other simulations below it on the same page)
As someone who gets the migraine aura like this (although, happily, not the headaches) I'd say it's a reasonably good depiction. This picture is also pretty good (except it doesn't convey the fact that the interference "shimmers"): http://www.richmondeye.com/images/migraine2.jpg - snypa, on 09/25/2008, -3/+21Try browsing a typical myspace page.
- powatom, on 09/25/2008, -0/+13I get these sometimes - I don't tend to get that bad of a headache though, just a kind of throbbing dull pain. The visuals are a weird experience though. It's like you can only see half a person, very very weird. I think what happens is that your blind spots increase dramatically in size, meaning everything starts disappearing from view even though you can still 'see'. It's kind of entertaining in a way, but scary the first time it happens. I thought I was going blind the first time :S
- paulb0t, on 09/25/2008, -1/+12In this case, it looks like "This Account Has Exceeded Its CPU Quota"
[Only if you're a site admin!] - camiller, on 09/25/2008, -0/+11I've had that happen, mine are not so colorfull. Only happens for me once every 4-5 years. Always accompanied by migrane like pain.
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -0/+10and blasting hardcore techno rave music helps with simulating the actual migraine.
- bassman12593, on 09/26/2008, -0/+10you want a real migraine? youtube comments.
- nvisible, on 09/25/2008, -0/+9That is the best depiction of my migraine aura I have seen. Nice.
- Dylson, on 09/26/2008, -0/+8You win the thread.
- nogami, on 09/26/2008, -0/+8I had my first one last year. The weird thing was that it didn't hurt very much at all, but it looked very cool. Kind of like an old-fashioned kaleidoscope.
My first reaction was "wow, that's kinda cool". Followed shortly afterward by "I hope it doesn't stay like that for too-long/ever". - Hoogie7Dowser, on 09/26/2008, -0/+8I get the same exact thing as you. It's like having ONLY peripheral vision. So yeah, you can still see, but good luck trying to read anything or focus your eyes on anything....
The headache that follows the vision experience is dull, yes, but intense none the less.
Then comes the excessive salivation. Runny saliva. Weird.
Then comes the nausua (due to runny saliva?)
Then comes the vomitting until my stomach muscles are too sore and cramped to wretch any more. - inactive, on 09/25/2008, -2/+9"This Account Has Exceeded Its CPU Quota" - ***** webhosting gives me migraines.
- degree, on 09/26/2008, -0/+7for everyone talking about getting the aura sensation without the accompanying migraine, those are called acelphagic migraines...or amigrainous migraines.
I've been having migraines+aura since I was in the second grade, and have the most absolute sympathy for anyone who may have them. Migraines are very good at kicking my ass. I've been unable to find any type of trigger for my migraines and, as a result, can get jumped at any time. I've had auras start while driving and migraines before exams...and pretty much in every other situation where it would be bad to have one. People who don't get migraines tend to think of them as just really bad headaches, and because of this are often of the "work through it, pussy" mentality. Migraines are much more than just a headache :[ - hammerpants, on 09/26/2008, -0/+7Yeah, your digg has ads on it.
- ZimFreak, on 09/26/2008, -0/+7hmm... the mirror is down?
do you happen to have a mirror for the mirror? - iamnobody8614, on 09/26/2008, -0/+6Where do you people go to school? A 75% has been a C in almost every class I've ever taken.
- soopertoll, on 09/25/2008, -0/+6I NEVER KNEW WHAT THIS IS! now i know!!!
I really had this since i was a kid! I never went to the doc. cause it didn't hurt and appeared not often.
It's exactly as described. It sucks only when you're maybe driving a car or something.
I have Visual (or ocular) migraine. Great.
Anyway, thank you user msaleem! - TheThirdWheel, on 09/25/2008, -1/+7A visual migraine = Geometry Wars 2
- oxdeltaxo, on 09/26/2008, -0/+6I get these every 6-18 months. They aren't fun, the auras show up about 10 minutes before my migraines. My advice is to go to sleep immediately before the pain arrives, otherwise it will keep you awake in most painful trip you will ever experience.
If you also have impacted wisdom teeth it can be so bad as to be felt in your dreams. - DLB777, on 09/26/2008, -0/+5I'm glad someone dugg this. I've had these for years and had no idea what they are.
- dcingraham, on 09/26/2008, -0/+5In before obligatory and incredibly original "diggs ≠ page views" comment.
- VacantThoughts, on 09/26/2008, -0/+5They aren't as fun when accompanied with a terrible headache
- leontes, on 09/26/2008, -0/+5I thought I was going crazy when I was a kid. My first one was when I was on my way to a tennis lesson. I felt all woozy and I couldn't process the fact I couldn't see. It always starts the same way: the shimmer originates in what must be the blind spot. And then it grows, shimmering. They happen about once every two years and last for about two hours.
I never get mine with pain, just with a feeling and sensation that things aren't right. It wasn't until I was in Neuroscience class when I learned what it must of been I had been experiencing. It's a total *****, if you have no idea what it is. I'm not sure why I never talked to a doctor about them. I just figured: you know, it had passed and that was that. My brain was weird for a bit and now it's gone.
Having them without pain... It feels weird to refer to them as migraines, which many people think: oooh headache. I now just try to take a nap when they happen. I worry about them happening at work or when I'm driving cross country. So far, lucky I guess. I'm due for another in about a year. - icantdenythis, on 09/26/2008, -1/+5I want to go to that school.
- crazybrit, on 09/26/2008, -0/+4wow why hasn't my doctor or any of my friends who gets migraines' doctors mentioned this miracle cure?
- ZimFreak, on 09/26/2008, -0/+4Thanks! too bad the flash movie thing doesn't work...
- cptmichael101st, on 09/26/2008, -0/+4I've had visual migraines now for about 9 years (it came to a point where I had at least one every month), and only recently discovered how to avoid them. There are lots of reasons people get migraines: stress, posture, diet, blunt force trauma...
The brain has a tolerance level for these "triggers." It can handle a certain amount, but once you exceed the tolerance level, bang. Migraine.
I started taking things out of my diet to see what might be causing mine. After lots of experimentation (and lots of migraines), I finally discovered that caffeine, chocolate, and stress are my triggers. I've cut way back on my caffeine/chocolate intake and haven't had a migraine in almost a year.
It sucks, but not having to worry about getting knocked out of commission for a whole day is worth it. - spiritflare1, on 09/26/2008, -1/+5i see a zigzag rainbow when i get them. if it didn't hurt so much, it'd actually be a cheap trip.
kinda like: http://home.znet.com/raych/ZigZagRainbow.jpg - RadiatedAnt, on 09/26/2008, -0/+4I knew it! 404's all over the place :|
- djheavyd, on 09/26/2008, -0/+4I get about 5 visual migraines each year. Starts with 45 minutes of aura and sensitivity to light. As soon as the aura stops the headache starts. Headache is low grade and sometimes lasts for 18 to 24 hours. If I take Tylenol immediately the headache is lesser throughout. If I don't take Tylenol early it does absolutely nothing to mitigate the headache later.
- Suits, on 09/26/2008, -3/+6feels like EVERYTHING AROUND ME MUST DIE!!!
- Mookie5, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3WTF - This link has been down (and returns the error message fast) since 88 digs. It's now at 167.
Who digs a busted link? I'll even give you 20 digs for insta-diggs from migrane sufferers., that still leaves aroud 60 diggs with no reason to them. - MadN, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3It's like someone inflated 1/2 your skull to 300 PSI, and a vacuum in the other half.
Yes, you see auras, if you can open your eyes.
Sounds make you scream, and your own screams hurt more.
I have sweated a pint of water into my sheets in 15 minutes. (I wrung them out later)
3 or 4 BC Powders a quart of water and a pitch black, quiet room.
Good to go in a half hour....
If I am lucky; unlucky is an Emergency Room visit after several hours for shots of Imitrex. - Vimmy, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3Jesus, it's even annoying in text form.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3That's not true. Visual migraines are sometimes precursors to a migraine headache.
Sometimes mine result in a headache, other times not. - TheGooseyOne, on 09/26/2008, -1/+4Lol oh, 75 is a B in Canada. We should have known.
- Disease, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3So that's what happened to me. I remember getting these and all of the sudden the TV would start getting distorted to the point where I couldn't focus on anything. I don't recall getting a headache when it happened but I did go to sleep to try fixing it.
- SolubleFish, on 09/26/2008, -1/+3Have you ever looked in a mirror? Have you ever looked in a mirror on..... LSD?
- beblunt, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2If you were being sarcastic, I'm doing the one and only nice thing for someone else today..
"The patients were divided into two groups each of which was alternately given 400 mg of sodium valproate B.I.d or placebo for eight weeks and then crossed over for an additional eight weeks. Our results show that in 86.2% of the patients sodium valproate was effective in preventing migraine with aura or reducing the frequency, severity and duration of the attacks. In general, the drug was well tolerated and proved to be an effective treatment in migraine." - the2989, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2Any working mirrors?
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2Eerie -- I always exceed my CPU quota when I have a migraine.
- Mr8lack, on 09/26/2008, -1/+3I know we're going to get crap for this but in Canada the grades were as follows:
50%-59% = D
60%-69% = C
70%-79% = B
80%-89% = A-
90%-94% = A
95%-100% = A+
say what you will but I was happy to be a "B" student. -
