- Bukowsky, on 02/29/2008, -5/+15My (unbiased) opinion is that everyone should vote for Childrens Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston... because I've spent ALOT of time at that hospital...
...oh, and this is completely unbiased, by the way! ;)- sbader, on 02/29/2008, -4/+8I voted houston too since that was the only one remotely close to where i live.
- fr3nch13, on 02/29/2008, -2/+4Vote for Children's Hospital of Michigan. It's in Detroit. It needs all the help it can get.
- turnthepage, on 02/29/2008, -1/+2I was born in Hermann Hospital.
- Godlike, on 02/29/2008, -0/+3We asked you to “Show the Love” by voting for a hospital to receive a Fun Center. The outpouring of support has been wonderful, and
Colgate-Palmolive is awarding all nine participating hospitals a Fun Center!
And now you can make an even bigger difference. Voting remains open through February 29, and the hospital that receives the most support will receive an additional Fun Center! - cgjamj, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2Thank you very much for submitting this. I live in Virginia Beach, VA and was hoping Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters (CHKD) in Norfolk was on the list. I had twin sons 15 months ago that spent time in the NICU there due to being born very premature at just under 24 weeks. Neither survived, but one lived for 12.5 hours and the other lived for 13 days. The staff there are incredible and some of the most wonderful people I've met. My wife and I have been donating money to them when we can. We had purchased a very nice and expensive double stroller when she was about 20 weeks pregnant. We are in the process of selling it and will be donating that money to CHKD.
Since CHKD was not on this list and I have no ties to any of the hospitals on the list, I also voted for your hospital in Houston. It's great to see stuff like this on digg and thanks to all of the diggers who got this on the front page! You never know if you'll need the services of a children's hospital like this. Our sons were perfectly healthy, they were just born too early.
- mwlundberg, on 02/29/2008, -4/+8It's easy to vote and it's for a great cause, so what are you waiting for? I also voted for Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, but you can't go wrong, regardless of who you vote for. Do it!
- WordsnCollision, on 02/29/2008, -2/+12The feel-good vote of the day... wish i could vote twice :o)
- Bukowsky, on 02/29/2008, -2/+4Actually... I believe that if you delete your cookies, it will allow you to vote again...
- forrest300, on 02/29/2008, -2/+0I think the vote was somewhere around 40% Houston, 25% Detroit until they added the captcha....
- Bukowsky, on 02/29/2008, -2/+4Actually... I believe that if you delete your cookies, it will allow you to vote again...
- hdar3415, on 02/29/2008, -4/+7I voted, looks like Childrens Memorial Hermann Hospital is ahead right now but not by much.
- Skitzzo, on 02/29/2008, -4/+4It's always nice to see social media being used to help out. I went ahead and voted for Hermann as well. I'd love to see more submissions like this on Digg.
- Barnolde, on 02/29/2008, -7/+3Would it be in good or bad taste to get these kids Trauma Center for the Wii?
- alex7575, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2because joking about sick children is soooooooo funny....
- TheAngryMob, on 02/29/2008, -1/+3It's a great cause, but where's the love for the western half of the US? We have children's hospitals as well...
- TheKorn2, on 02/29/2008, -0/+4I'm wondering how on earth ONE flat panel monitor, a wii, a DVD player, and a cart to roll it all around on adds up to $20K! Are they personally delivered by Krusty the Clown?
- indyGuy, on 02/29/2008, -1/+3You'd be amazed at the cost of hospital-grade TV carts :)
- alex7575, on 02/29/2008, -1/+3I think what they meant is that they'll charge the patients $20k/day for the use of the thing, obviously insurance companies won't cover it
- roho76, on 02/29/2008, -1/+2GM paid $25,000 for a Pentium II with RS Logix (which is a ladder logic program for those who don't know) on it inside a neat little box. And this was like 4 years ago. I didn't even think they made those processors anymore at that point. I am a Robot Programmer and get paid very well but I'm definitly in the wrong business.
- molochi, on 02/29/2008, -1/+2Actually Staright Starbright says the value of each "funcenter" is around $4200 (I don't know where 20k comes from) and includes "lifetime maintenance" of the unit. I hope that it also comes with a library of games and movies as well (not just wiisports), otherwise that's a hellaciously expensive service contract.
- nibster, on 02/29/2008, -5/+10VOTE FOR DETROIT. GOD KNOWS THAT CITY IS ***** ALREADY. AT LEAST MAKE IT ALRIGHT FOR THE KIDS.
CAPS LOCK FTW. SORRY.- indyGuy, on 02/29/2008, -2/+2Agreed (except for the caps).
- Ibox, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1Stop yelling at me!
- Lunarbunny, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2CRUISE CONTROL!!!!11
- dpb33300, on 02/29/2008, -2/+8Deleting cookies does not work.
I am voting for Detroit, Lord knows we need it here. - TheCooler72, on 02/29/2008, -3/+5IMHO, it's sort of weak to just vote for the hospital where you live. Detroit likely needs the most help.
- solidcube, on 02/29/2008, -2/+5What about this needs to cost 20 large? That's a 22" flatscreen at most. So that's AT MOST $2000 including the cart.
- saska, on 02/29/2008, -1/+5Why not write a letter to Child's Play instead of casting an internet vote and crossing your fingers and hoping? Why not see if the hospital you support is already a Child's Play hospital? I know those guys could do a hell of a lot more with $20k than that list.
http://www.childsplaycharity.org/- taumeson, on 02/29/2008, -1/+1some hospitals get 100K+ out of child's play and it goes a LOT farther than all this.
- LogicBomB, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2I'm glad someone posted it - this is my favorite charity. Not only are you helping kids HAVE FUN while they are sick but you are also showing that gamers can make a HUGE difference in a positive way.
- itsjibba, on 02/29/2008, -3/+2This is pretty horrible charity. First off they're blowing 20k on a single cart, when they could get an economical version of this for a grand or two and then get a dozen of them. Second, they clearly spend nearly as much on the marketing/web development side of it than the actual charity.
- ukfoole, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1Yeah, but that is how companies do it. Remember the yoplait scandal from a few years ago?
- ukfoole, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1Yeah, but that is how companies do it. Remember the yoplait scandal from a few years ago?
- andyn8484, on 02/29/2008, -3/+1i before e EXCEPT AFTER C!!! It's not that difficult
- jeffpipas, on 02/29/2008, -2/+5I too have spent a lot of time at the Detroit Children's Hospital - my (unbiased) opinion is that you vote for Detroit! That, and I have a few friends who work there.
- dunguyen1980, on 02/29/2008, -3/+1i feel sorry for the schools that lose...
- Bukowsky, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1schools?
- Ibox, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1Hospitals... and noone looses, they all get one center, the winner gets two.
- ghostrocket, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1To bad, Seattle Children's Hospital is not on the list. My kids have been there for different things. It ROCKS! check their web site. www.seattlechildrens.org They put children at ease and make them relaxed. I know alot of of people who work there. It is a great place.
- marillion, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2I work at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) and I'm bummed that we're not on the list. Of course, we're still happy about our big win on NBC's Clash of the Choirs (which went towards the purchase of infant critical-care transportation equipment). But, if you peel back the layers, it's not too surprising. Cincinnati is home to Proctor and Gamble which is a major competitor to Colgate and the P&G foundation which supports CCHMC.
Seriously, however, in spite of the the bright colors and best efforts to make any children's hospital as happy as possible, nothing changes the fact that a hospital is a hospital. Anything any of us can do to make big scary places a little less scary is worthwhile and deserving of your support. Click away .... - nans913, on 02/29/2008, -0/+0children's hospital is sooo special. A vote for any of them is such a good thing to do. I voted!!!
- diggstown, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2Why is the list of hospitals so short?
- Ibox, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2there seems to only be one monetary supporter... Its nice they're doing what they are... maybe it'll be an annual or ten year thing where they pick a few more and do it again.
- animaladvocate, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2thanks for posting...the people on digg aren't as self centered and ignorant to important issues as i thought.
well, maybe they still are.- Bukowsky, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1Thanks! and from my experience, most of the people on digg are good people.
But I can only speak for myself... and this is an important issue to me, because I spent about 4 months at this hospital. (not me personally, but a close family member) There are alot of good people there, and this is just another way for me to give back to a hospital that gave so much to me.
- Bukowsky, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1Thanks! and from my experience, most of the people on digg are good people.
- SwankRock3000, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1Did the words "fun center" make anyone else think of "Cane and the Stubborn Stains"?
Obscure King of the Hill/Green Day refrences? anyone? - simplehiker, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1Please Detroit needs the love. Just think of it as pay back from all the ridiculous stories Detroit's Mayor produces.
- toomanytuxedos, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1I'm glad it was pointed out they all get one no matter what. I can't wait to see St. Christophers when it's finished :D I used to go there all the time.
- rdoger6424, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1CHOP! CHOP! CHOP! CHOP!
edit: oh look, I didn't rtfa.
St. Christopher's then. - TwistedRonin, on 03/01/2008, -0/+1It's pretty awesome that everyone got one.
