- Recuso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I'm going to put this in very simple-to-understand terms:
GO
TO
THE
DOCTOR.
edit: you're probably pregnant. Especially if you're a guy. - Hellman109, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Home diagnosis for this stuff is dangerous!
Also, allot of people read this, believe it, and then think they have these symptoms and get all paranoid (the people in white coats will be along soon).
If your sick, goto the doctor!
Here in Australia, I have a medicare card (everyone gets one) and if you goto a doctor that does bulk billing, you pay nothing, Ive had two Xrays this year and paid nothing for those either. - coolspray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11If it took 8 doctors 23 days to figure it out, I doubt this would have figured it out.
- codyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9*****.. i wish i had this last month cause i walked around 23 days with a ruptured appendix and almost died... well i should be dead... but my intestines enlarged themselves 20x their normal size and wrapped themselves around the appendix saving my life.. i guess i am getting written up in a medical journal now or something... but it took 8 doctors 23 days to figure the ***** out..... errrrrrr
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I had a line ready:
"According to the website, I'm pregnant.
That explains the man-boobs."
But alas, the website isn't as interactive as I thought... :( - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Apparently at the cost of the English language. Your spelling is awful.
- dtreese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2As a 3rd year medical student, it's really great to see a number of people recommending that you seek professional medical advice. There's quite a bit that can go wrong in the abdomen, and it would be a baaaaad idea to depend on a web site to diagnose yourself. Appendicitis is one of the more common of the nasty possibilities you might run into, but there are quite a few others. Please, please don't use the Internet to diagnose yourself. I wouldn't do it, and I'd be more likely than most to come up with a correct diagnosis. I'm not trying to ensure good business -- there are plenty of sick people out there.
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+1That's the beauty of the Australian health care system. Consider yourself lucky, because very few countries around the world have benefits like we do.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1from a person who has IBS---
If you have get the runs for no apparent reason quite regularly and have rediculous gas, you probably have IBS.....
but get yourself checked... best thing i ever did - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.medicinenet.com/gastroesophageal_reflux_disease_gerd/article.htm
(also #1 on the linked page)
My ex-gf had a moderate-bad case of this... same symptoms. It can also be an issue with the sphincter between your esophagus and stomach not closing... common if you put a lot of weight on very fast. That said, I'm not a doctor... and you need to see one about this. - Spikito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah, mine almost busted, but it was inflammed for like 6 months, it should have ruptured way before, but a buddy of mine did have his bust, he had gangrene and was in the hospital about a month
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This would've come in handy as a reading before i was crippled over in horrible pain on the sidelines of our last friday night game of football all year. 2 hours of hell it was. I was rushed to the hospital afterwards when i finally decidfed to talk to the team medic, and now I'm out of the hospital after getting those pesky appendix removed.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"those pesky appendix removed"
Doctor: Well der's your problem. He's got a spare appendix.
Glad they caught it. - m2mtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1... "paid nothing" is relative ...
here in Austria (not Australia) we have something equal. You pay nothing when you go to the doctor, get x-rays etc.
but you have to pay about 30 % of your income for it, no matter if you are sick or healthy
of course, it is social, but it stinks if people abuse it - FutureSandwhich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cause of these: Mexican Water
- hadak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that must have hurt.
- signal15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I endured 4 years of excruciating stomach pain. Every single day it felt like someone was stabbing me. I went to numerous doctors, had cameras stuck down my throat, MRI's, CT scans, x-rays after drinking radioactive stuff, etc. I also had 4 H. Pylori tests that all came back negative. I ended up with a $28k bill from the Mayo clinic, and even they could not figure out what was wrong. The only thing they could find was that I had chronic gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining), and they had no idea what caused it.
I spent over $1500 a year on pepto, proton pump inhibitors, and other assorted antacid type stuff.
Because I tested negative for Pylori 4 times, no doctor would prescribe the anti-biotics for it. I decided to do it myself and was all ready to order up the drugs off the net, and my friend's doctor wife told me she would prescribe them for me. I took the anti-biotics for 3 weeks, and after a month, the pain was gone.
4 YEARS of excruciating pain, and all I needed were these antibiotics. I don't know if it was in fact pylori that caused it, or some other bacteria. But one of the things I noticed was that I had some pretty stinky breath during this whole ordeal, and after the antibiotic treatment, it almost smells like flowers.
The reason I almost bought the drugs on the net is because a friend of mine had almost the exact same thing happen to him. He tested negative 12 times, and he went to the hospital coughing up blood. They took a tissue sample from his stomach that tested positive for pylori. They said it spread to his liver, ribcage, spleen, and all over in that area. They had him on the pylori drugs for 3 months, and then it finally went away.
One of the doctors said that there was some evidence to support that people with a certain blood type will get a false negative test more often than other people. The test in itself is only 72% accurate without even taking this into account.
The worst part about all of this was the mental anguish you go through wondering what the hell is wrong with you. Sometimes it would hurt so bad, I would lay curled up in the fetal position on the floor for hours. The only relief I could ever get was going to the emergency room and getting them to give me an antacid laced with an anesthetic, which usually wore off within a couple of hours.
Self medicating is usually a bad idea. But in this case, it turned out it would have been the right choice. Overall, I ended up with $50k worth of medical bills for something that no one even diagnosed. I am sure that to this day I would still be miserable if I hadn't told my friend's wife I was going to order the drugs on the net. Like I said though, it might not have been pylori, but some other type of bacteria. I read some report from John's Hopkins about a case where the bacteria that is normally present in your mouth totally went rampant in some guys stomach and caused very similar symptoms to mine, but it was almost impossible to detect because of its normal presence when doing a biopsy. - jhourcle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Don't be so sure it's IBS. I went through excrutiating pain and similar symptoms -- the doctor told me to eat more fiber, exercise and drink more water.
I started having All Bran and similar cereals every morning. The problems started getting worse, but the doctors had no clue what was going on (and managed to lose my blood tests, didn't return my calls, etc.). I gave up on doctors ... and did some reading up, and realized my reaction was more like a food intollerance.
I did a little bit of experimenting, and realized it some reaction to dairy -- so the All Bran in the morning was actually making the problems worse. So, get yourself checked -- but please don't make a diagnosis from reading a few websites. And it's entirely possible for your doctor to be wrong about the diagnosis, so don't expect immediate results. - RubeusEsclair, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1My mom said the same thing after my birth...
- michellephilips, on 07/31/2008, -0/+0If you have IBS you will need to visit your doctor and he will do a proper diagnosis.

- desert88, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Grr this doesn't help me Im 16 and every morning I feel like I am going to puke because of all the acid in my stomach. It also makes me really hungry but I don't really feel hungry for anything. Since this thing only lists 5 types of problems its probably not very comprehensive and doesn't help me.
