- sq2shooter, on 11/30/2008, -0/+2bobbi - Pharma companies don't rely on lifelong treatments. At most they have 14 or so years to sell a drug, then it goes generic and they lose all their business. So this pervasive fallacy that they are looking to get you on a drug for life is nothing but a lie. Few drugs maintain a profit stream for pharma companies beyond their normal patent life (which starts well before it ever even hits the market). Do a search for the biggest name brand drugs on the market and see for yourself. None of them have been around very long and you can bet pretty much none of them will be sold by the same company 10 to 15 years from now. The cure for cancer would probably be the biggest seller ever. You could charge out the ass for it and pretty much anyone would be willing to pay it to save their life. And since we can't prevent cancer, it would be a pharma giant for years as even though you have a cure, you don't have a way to prevent new cancers from developing.
