- anvilon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Some years back I heard about some new invention that would allow Emergency Medical Technicians to attach an auxiliary mechanical heart to keep the patient alive while they restarted his/her biological one.
As I remember, no organization was willing to carry them.
Imagine:
EMT: Ok pump is attached... let's get him to the hospital!!!

Patient: Uhhhhhh. What's happened?
ER Doctor: Sorry sir, you've had a heart attack, but we haven't been able to get your own heart to restart and the ambulance company wants it's pump back.
