- macmcraeart, on 03/21/2009, -0/+73What kind of seriously ***** up ***** must a maggot live through to need therapy?
- inactive, on 03/21/2009, -3/+49I liked the part where the maggots were in her foot.

The followup. - allothersnsused, on 03/21/2009, -0/+34I just spent all morning hungover and throwing up. Thanks for helping me continue that into the afternoon.
- wing05, on 03/21/2009, -0/+20It's an old video.
Medical leaches to help prevent reattached extremities from dieing due to blood clots and maggots to aid in debridement where a scalpel could take away too much or not enough.
Just make sure they're not screwfly maggots which do go after living flesh. - thebeginning, on 03/21/2009, -1/+20Thankfully that was nearly as interesting as it was disgusting.
And it was really disgusting. - ryryguy, on 03/21/2009, -4/+23oh hell no.
- FUR10N, on 03/21/2009, -0/+18I did not.
- anshuman, on 03/21/2009, -1/+17brb ,cleaning puke.

:) - scarlettletter, on 03/21/2009, -0/+13Are you freaking serious! How I'm going to go out and have Mexican food or any type of rice today is beyond me!
- Princeamor, on 03/21/2009, -4/+17Incredible.. we really should be trying different more and more natural options like this...
- catachip, on 03/21/2009, -0/+10The issue here is no that the body doesn't "accept" antibiotics anymore, it's the fact that antibiotics are typically not effective for these types of diabetic ulcerations. Antibiotic resistance can develop in certain bacterial strains, (i.e., MRSA), however, that wouldn't have been the issue here.
- DivineMonkey, on 03/21/2009, -0/+8Hey, it's just like in the movie Gladiator.
- Fogell, on 03/21/2009, -0/+8Grow a pair of balls.
- irvin666, on 03/21/2009, -0/+7I didn't find this disgusting, maggots are MUCH more effective of removing dead tissues than human hands. Maggots also produce anti-biotics as they consume dead tissue. A win-win.
- hokie47, on 03/21/2009, -1/+8Guys I am not sure what cause this to her, but I am seeing a lot more skin infections like this because people simply do not take care of a small cut. Wash it off with warm soap and water, put some hydrogen peroxide on that thing, dry it off(use a hair dryer on low heat if needed), put a little neosporin on it, and bandage it up. Keep on doing this 2 to 3 times a day until it is closed up. I am just amazed how many people today do not do this today because no one taught them about infections. Your grandparents did not live with antibiotics and they knew how to take care of cuts like this and we need to do the same.
/A digg public service announcement - KidTrinidad, on 03/21/2009, -0/+6best comment ever
- isfan, on 03/21/2009, -1/+7Disgusting, this is worse than "3 guys one hammer"
- TheZorch, on 03/21/2009, -0/+6Its an ulcer due to her diabetes. Diabetics have a harder time healing from wounds and bacteria today often has a higher resistance to antibiotics because they're issued too often and many times they are in our food.
- Larsonal777, on 03/21/2009, -0/+6Don't know what everyone's problem is... It wasn't that discusting... and there IS a viewer warning. Seriously... if you're quezzy and stupid enough to watch a video tittled maggot therapy with a warning on it while you're in the midst of eating... well i've got no simpathy for you.
- LeviTheSmith, on 03/21/2009, -0/+6***** hell.. the thought of maggots inside my body makes my skin crawl..
- sotose, on 03/21/2009, -0/+5When did we go from feareless hunter-gatherers,using everything to our advntage in order to survive,to limp wristed pasty little bitches who are very likely to fall in a ditch and die if they have no google maps to pull them through?
I blame steam engines. - greatmunizzle, on 03/21/2009, -0/+5Dugg for not being redirected when clicking on the the picture.
Almost lost the fish i just ate though.... - yuanzhoulu, on 03/21/2009, -0/+5i puked at 1:35
- compgeek, on 03/21/2009, -1/+5*shudders* oh man I'll be having nightmares about that one
- erikerikerik, on 03/21/2009, -0/+4Also, foot rot in diabetics is becoming more and more common.
Lower / horrible / zero blood circulation can be blamed for this. - ajfunk, on 03/21/2009, -0/+4Wow. Those are great results.
- pudgyv, on 03/21/2009, -1/+5So the ancients weren't so stupid after all.
- onoitzphil, on 03/21/2009, -2/+6I want to point out an important thing about this video. The doctor said that antibiotics were of no help. This seems to be a pressing issue when you consider the fact of the possibility of consuming antibiotics in your foods (dairy). Be careful what you are taking in because a simple infection can do a lot of damage when your body doesn't accept antibiotics anymore.
- stonebear, on 03/21/2009, -0/+4Another promising therapy for stubborn wound healing is bot fly larvae. They drink blood instead of eating decaying flesh, but they also release an antibiotic and an anesthetic into the surrounding tissue.
- seaofcheese, on 03/21/2009, -0/+4First i have ever heard of 3 guys 1 hammer and so i just had to look it up.............i really wish i hadnt
- mogdor, on 03/21/2009, -0/+4I've never said this in a comment before, but I think it applies.
OMNOMNOMNOMNOM - eatasandwich, on 03/21/2009, -0/+4As someone who regularly has to deal with wound infections, this is actually pretty damn cool.
It's certainly not as bad as discovering maggots that weren't meant to be there....and frankly, given the choice, I'd rather let maggots do the dirty work and free me up to go and remove stitches from hot girls who have had hip arthroscopies. - abrasion, on 03/22/2009, -0/+3I have maggots in my fridge right this second.
That being said, they are in a container of sawdust and sleeping, waiting for the next fishing trip. - Sedako, on 03/21/2009, -0/+3Heh, I live right outside of Syracuse. Funny to see something so close to home on Digg. Medical advancements are always good, no matter how disgusting they may seem to the general public.
- Skull0Inc, on 03/21/2009, -0/+3oh crap, oh crap, oh crap oh crap...i crap my pants!!
- stopple, on 03/21/2009, -0/+3If you can get past the revulsion, there is a feel good moment at the end when you realize how brave this woman had to be...
the follow up vid shows the healed wound
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYhQ1Nrpw_s - Ghoztt, on 03/21/2009, -1/+4oh heavens yes!
- wondertwins, on 03/21/2009, -1/+4this is kind of old. Saw this on TLC before. Amazing how these only eat the dead tissue and is better than medicine
- thcobbs, on 03/22/2009, -0/+3I blame Bush....
Oh wait, wrong thread. - JoeVet, on 03/21/2009, -0/+3Anyone who spends time around wounded animals knows the benefits of maggots. The wounds full of maggots are clean of dead tissue and infection once the maggots are cleaned off. Its just disgusting to have to clean off the maggots.
- bizkit00, on 03/21/2009, -0/+3I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE!
- geesamba, on 03/21/2009, -1/+4I'm sure there are TONS of treatments like this we as an "advanced" medical society either ignore or disregard. This is a perfect example of using nature's strengths for what they are. The maggots only eat dead/diseased tissue! That has applicability to a huge number of treatments. I really wonder what other similar things are out there...
- sotose, on 03/21/2009, -0/+3In your case,a lobotomy is more likely
- geesamba, on 03/21/2009, -0/+3*disgusting*
*queasy*
*sympathy*
But you make a valid point. ;-) - bastardo, on 03/21/2009, -0/+3The usefulness of antibiotics has been declining sharply in the last decades. These days the doses given are much larger than they were even in the 60's.
- ThecNiqueMan, on 03/21/2009, -0/+3Come on man...nothing funny there.
- Naughtyme, on 03/21/2009, -2/+5Perhaps they shouldn't be so premature:
