Just try saying that when you're drunk. - mt066, on 10/10/2007, -0/+39So can I save up my 14 beers and drink them all on Friday?
- sdcarter, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16How much booze is good for me? As much as I can drink without throwing up or waking up in jail.
- carnecerro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Then what the hell are you going to do on Saturday night?
- DangerCollie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11"Despite the health benefit of moderate alcohol consumption, the researchers warn doctors against advising people to drink."
Some of my coworkers need to start drinking. A couple of them need to drink a whole lot to drown that bug they have up their ass. And they need to get laid. Now that's my idea of a prescription. Get drunk and screw.
Also explains why I'm not a doctor (but I play one sometimes). - Fluffiness, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9To summarize: Exactly what they've been telling you for the last 10 years.
- xBiTReaVeRx, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Drink his 14 shots of whiskey...
- arbulus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5yuck
- datastorageguy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Well I'm screwed.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Those statistics make me want to get drunk.
- sdcarter, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Screw that, those statistics make me want to get drunk just to prove them wrong.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3We "Americans" don't consume alcohol in ounces (we do but that is not how we refer to it) either. I've never heard someone walk up to the bar and say "give me 16 ounces". Typically we ask for a pint, a bottle or (and this makes me shudder in disgust) a can.
Obviously the author doesn't understand that most people drink their beer in pints. Clearly a teetotaler (loser).
Funny that you would ask for a conversion and call Americans stupid even though a pint is Imperial yet used as a universal measurement of beer.
However, to answer your question, there are 16 ounces in a pint and there are 2.11 pints in a liter. - islingt0ner, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4"Drinking is a slippery slope", eh? I am sure there is a pun here...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I digg you up. You are indeed correct. I meant that most of us order in pints using the term more as "a glass of beer" rather than an actual measurement.
However, I must point out that if you order a PINT of Guiness you get 0.5 litres of beer. 1 pint = 0.47 litres so I would say that is pretty close.
I suspect (at least from my travels) that a pint is a universal term in regard to the true nectar of the gods, beer. - reed311, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Quit using the Internet that we invented and the site that we host, then.
- arbulus, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Because it's hard to stand up when you're drunk
- senorcool, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4This is a poorly written article.
- TheHydrogens, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"How Much Booze Is Good For You?"
All of it. - dataset, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Whatever it takes to stop the dogs in my head from barking.
- dirtyfrog, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3"A drink may be smaller than you think. O'Keefe and colleagues say a drink is a 12-ounce bottle of beer, a 5-ounce glass of wine, or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof distilled liquor which all have between 13 and 15 grams of alcohol. "
I (the stupid American) will do the conversion for you (the apparent genius who is not American). 12 oz = 0.35 litres, 5 oz = 0.15 litres, 1.5oz = 0.04 litres, and in case you were wondering 10 oz is 1/2 pint. - arbulus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Tannin FTW
- nc0onc0o, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Guess I'm dense. Did they actually say how much alcohol (ounces, grams, liters or whatever) is bad? And what exactly are the bad effects? As far as I can see the article says "Don't drink too much or bad things will happen."
FUD - Harbinger67, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Stop ***** promoting this crappy site.
- tanto, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Myth 1: Red wine is the only healthy drink. Myth 2: Women shouldn’t have more than one drink a day.Myth 3: Hangovers are hell-but harmless.Myth 4: To stay sober, limit drinks to one an hour.
http://orangtuamurid.info/blog/2007/04/01/drinking-myths/ - heppareppana, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2binge drinking ftw. We don't have moderate drinking here in Finland, we just have plain drinking and drinking some more. Somebody should bring the idea here, maybe it could catch on.
- neutrascrub, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1did anyone else notice the researcher was Irish?
- davestar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"...and in case you were wondering 10 oz is 1/2 pint."
An American pint is 16 oz (473 mL), so that's unlikely.
A British pint is ~570 mL - dacheetah, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1So you drink a beer that not only tastes bad, but has less alcohol than real beer.
If you've killed you taste-buds at least drink a full strength beer, if you haven't, then pick a GOOD full strength beer.
(Personally I don't like any of the American Beers I've tried. Germany and Ireland make better beers, and there are a few local beers (Australian) that I like also.) - hollismb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"Why don't we get drunk and screw" is also a line from a Jimmy Buffet song. But everybody probably already knew that.
- maximusdigg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1A bottle of beer at .35 litres? WTF? A genuine bottle should be no less than .5!
- dacheetah, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Bah, 80-proof.
Bacardi 151º FTW! (75½% Ethanol by volume)
(Straight up, chilled) - maximusdigg, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Pint is definitely NOT the universal measurement for beer. In fact, if you order a PINT of Guiness anywhere across Europe (mainland not UK) you'll end up getting 0.5 Litres of beer and NOT a pint. Just FYI. As for stupid I was not referring to the Pint but to the ounce which - as you clearly agree - is the preferred unit of measurement for complete lamers only.
- SheilaNoya, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Reminder to all of you younger folks who drink a lot - As you get older, there is a point in time when people stop calling you "Party Animal" and start referring to you as a "Sloppy Drunk" or "Lush". Now, with that said, where's did I put my martini?
- rootstyle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Um... It ever occur that its maybe because the UK wasn't ALWAYS using metric and that its hard to change old habits?
- dacheetah, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The alcohol is also good in moderation. Wine (particularly red) does have stuff that is considered good for you, and it's certainly been shown that lots of alcohol is bad, but "they" have also shown that SOME alcohol can be good.
- barkingmoonbat, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3Unfortunately, the article expresses drink volumes in ounces.
It would be better if it was expressed in pints or litres so that the other 99% of the world could understand it. - maximusdigg, on 10/10/2007, -6/+6WTF? Convert to the metric system. NOW. What's an ounce for heaven's sake? Stupid Americans ...
- hidetheice, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0So what are the benefits?
- sloogy, on 10/10/2007, -5/+5i think this man has really shows us the effects of over drinking for both men and woman -

if you ever behave like this, dont forget to capture it and send the video link to digg so we can learn all the effects even deeper. - gotterdammerung, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0i see men (boys) drinking this bilge entirely too often. light beer, pink shirts, popped collars... fail, fail, and more fail
- arbulus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Ok, hang on, I'm curious.
As far as I understand, a pint is part of the US system of measurements. If that is the case, why is a pint used in measurement of drinks in the UK where you use the metric system?
(though i guess the same could be said in reverse about the US selling 2 liters of soda) - andyakadum, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Thats because he is trying to show you the effects alcool (as they call it here in france) have on you.
Don't get pished when you've got an article to write. Or software for that matter MICROSOFT!
God. Where did my beer go? - indy514, on 09/09/2008, -0/+0I've put 4 beers and it says "Legally, you may drive", it's not so bad:

- CoJest, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1who is paying for this bs research?
- ecidnac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0You're almost there with those conversions. But when we get down to anything that is less than a litre, we move the decimal place over. So: 350mL, 150mL, and 4cL (and when it comes to centilitres, the 0.4 is probably significant, so I'd say 4.4cL).

- alciadanet, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0"Light drinking helps heart health."
Wrong. Wine is good, not because of the alcohol but because of the other ingredients. - wingzman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0How many have I had?
