""Shortly after the shooting, which came three weeks before Christmas, a group of shoppers came out of the building with their hands raised. Some were still holding shopping bags.""
-----------------------------------------------------
Jesus Christ, the fat phucks obviously were not scared enough to leave their bought items. Shooter is in the store! Run, but don't forget your merchandise!
America is an ill nation, not stable enough to support the right to bear arms. I expect a load of US Diggers to defend their right to own guns, but the US has on average 30,000 gun-related deaths per year - suicide and accidents accounting for a lot of these deaths, but who gives a ***** - a loaded gun makes these things a lot easier. And of course, homicide.
The UK has around 50 gun related deaths per year.
The UK has a population around 6 times smaller than the US, so if you factor that in, then the US has 100 times the rate per capita of the UK.
As always, the gunman is suicidal, so he has to take some people along with him so he won't die lonely. Just how many times have we seen this scenario lately?
I object to the inaccurate use of the term "sniper." I also morally object to the phrase "opened fire." The use of such language is unobjective, inflammatory and irresponsible.
On Good Morning America, his foster mother or whatever summarized the note he left for her. He said something like "my whole life I've been a piece of *****. Now everyone will remember me". And then people still wonder why he would kill other people instead of just himself... it's for all the ***** attention the media gives this *****!
It is the Medias fault here. These sick people think that they will get famous if they go kill a bunch of people before they kill themselves. I guess having your name and face all over the TV and Internet and even having a equally insane Bush to comment on your insanity is about as famous as anyone could hope to get.
These things would not happen as often if the news media would report what happened and not give any name of the crazy fool that did it and then go to the next story and be done with it.
I'm so sick of psycho freaks "making themselves famous". A law should be passed. If you commit a horrific crime your name and image may not be said/shown in the media. You may only be referred to as "the psychopath". This way all the pathetic voyeurs still get to soak up the other details of your story and you don't get to be remembered as anything more than another faceless, nameless freak that should have just killed himself for the good of the many.
I feel for the victims families. Although I was not an opponent of the gun amnesty here in Australia, the United States is a very different story because you are at risk from tyrannical governments. My advice to all Americans is DO NOT GIVE UP YOUR GUNS, the second amendment was put there because the founding fathers knew the future military and economic power of the United States would be attractive to tyrants seeking global dominance. DO NOT ACCEPT AMNESTY, not only for the sake of your own country, but also for others.
Shame about these poor people. R.I.P any victims. So sad to see this kind of thing happening more and more often, suppose it's just the sad world we live in today.
Completely preventable by a few concerned citizens, yes.
The lady who was part of the family who had taken him in said that she saw him with the rifle just a night or two before. She had the power to stop this and didn't. As a convicted felon he shouldn't have even been allowed access to any firearm under current law.
Even when he had made it to the mall he should have been stopped before anything happened. Where are security guards? Something should click when somebody is seen carrying a damn SKS into a mall. Even if there are no guards around it could have been prevented by one concerned citizen seeing him enter and reporting it.
And please people, don't call people like this 'snipers'. Its retarded and ignorant.
Robert Hawkins had been kicked out of his family’s house, fired from McDonald’s and had broken up with his girlfriend. He was 19, about the same age another sick man was when he terrified the state of Nebraska and the nation 50 years earlier.
Hawkins left a suicide note Wednesday at the home where he had been living. It said that he wouldn’t be a burden on his family anymore and that “now I’ll be famous,” according to Debora Maruca-Kovac, who owns the home.
Sounds like he had a rough life. People need to learn to deal with their problems a little better. And how the hell he got a gun is beyond me. So sad. My heart goes out to the families lost in this tragedy, you definitely wouldn't think of being gunned down out Christmas shopping for your family. =(
Since guns make it so easy to kill, makes you wonder how many people this guy would have taken out if the security guard had been packing, or if a random passerby was carrying. If many more regular people carried weapons, incidents like this and the school shooting at VT would be much less likely to happen since someone could end it sooner. And before you think I want a buch of vigilantes wandering around, ask some of the victims of these random shootiings if they wish they had been carrying and had a chance to defend themselves, or if a random person nearby the incident had been carrying and may have stopped the shooter sooner.
Gun control only makes it harder for regular law abiding people to carry guns; True, accidents at home etc would increase but we haven't banned cars yet have we?
Who do you get mad at? This kid or the fact that reporters (an now myself) keep bringing this thing up? Quit with the 1/2 hour live coverage. The kid wanted to be a "hero" congrats, he got it.
Somehow I feel wrong digging this report, like I’m giving the gunman what he wanted. He wanted attention on a grand scale, and that’s what the media is giving him; even if he won’t be alive to “enjoy” it. Apparently, that was a trade off he was willing to make.
It would be better that the shooter’s name and image be stricken from history. That way, any deranged self-loathing lunatic won’t feel it necessary to “go out in style” in a similar manner. He should be forgotten, but those whose lives he destroyed should be remembered and mourned. So as I digg, I digg in memory of lost lives that deserve remembering...
My condolences go out to the victims of this terrible tragedy.
On a less serious note, my wife worked at that mall for three years (until two months ago). I cursed the day they announced that her store would be closing. Now I kind of see it as a blessing in disguise that she was spared this ordeal. I’ve held her close several times today, and I’m reminded of how lucky I am for the ability to do so.
EYE FOR AN EYE people. Seriously how many of you here genuinely believe that the solution is for everyone that goes shopping to carry a gun. You live in the States, not the middle east.
Also, imagine someone near you gets shot, you pull a gun, and oh wait, so does everyone else, who do you shoot, everyone. Great.
It's sad that stuff like this takes a a day or so to make it on the front page. while anything ron paul or ***** Ubuntu makes it in hours. This is sad and I feel sorry for the people who got shot. Honor the people who lost their lives for doing nothing wrong. I really hope they put up a page so we can donate to the peoples families. This is real news not some howto for ubuntu or how ron paul is the next big thing.
This kind of shooting makes me wonder where are the people carrying guns daily, wheter open or concealed. If someone was carrying in the area where the murderous shots were fired, someone would have certainly tried to take a shot to stop the murderer. Perhaps we need more armed citizens and more guns.
