- BrokenClock, on 12/06/2007, -7/+64I guess he didn't see the "No Firearms" sign posted on the entrance doors.
- bamafun, on 12/06/2007, -5/+61such a tragedy I just dont understand what makes someone think "Hey why don't I go to the Mall and shoot some people?"
- Alphateam, on 12/06/2007, -6/+56He must have been a video gamer.
-Jack Thompson - dosequis, on 12/06/2007, -2/+43I'm in Nebraska and they are saying that in this young man's suicide note that he wanted to "go out in style"
Sick - ArmyOfFun, on 12/06/2007, -10/+41Really? I get that feeling just about every December.
- zirconx, on 12/06/2007, -6/+35Yes lets make them illegal. It worked for drugs!
But lets start by making those 'No Weapons Allowed' signs on the mall entrances a little bigger. He must not have seen them. I work just across the highway from this mall. - inactive, on 12/06/2007, -3/+31Especially during Christmas season... Aren't people supposed to be "merry?"
- minoss, on 12/06/2007, -0/+26He wanted fame. Stop giving it to him.
- DangerMouse9, on 12/06/2007, -0/+25Most were in shock. What you should be bitching about is that one lady was at the register and the person working said "we have to go!" and the lady was like "well, can't you ring me up first?" And that's not a joke, they played it on the local news here.
- Pimpalicious316, on 12/06/2007, -1/+25the holidays are typically the most depressing time of the year for many people. I happen to fall into this category. It's just not a happy time of year for some.
http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/holiday-depress ... - had3l, on 12/06/2007, -4/+28Queue people blaming video games in 3, 2, 1...
- zirconx, on 12/06/2007, -1/+24Maybe they were just too scared to do anything? Their fists tightly clenched, didn't even realize they still had their bags until later?
Or maybe they are calm enough to realize that even though this horrible event was occurring somewhere else in the mall, it doesn't mean they have to leave all thier childrens' gifts behind for someone to steal later.
Whats it to you anyway? You just hate people? - 89992, on 12/06/2007, -10/+32I bet if one of the other shoppers carried a gun, the man would not have been able to kill 8 people.
- TriSight, on 12/06/2007, -8/+29Way to go using a tragedy to further a political agenda. Sounds like a certain president I know of.
- niczar, on 12/06/2007, -4/+25That's called "being insane."
You can't understand it -- by definition. If it was understandable, that wouldn't be insanity. - Hickeroar, on 12/06/2007, -2/+23The guy wanted to "go out in style" per his suicide note. The mall is an obvious place with a lot of people if you're looking to do something like this. I can't comprehend what would make someone want to murder a whole bunch of people they don't know before killing their own self. Just shoot yourself in the face and save the lives of the rest of the people who have never done a thing to you...yaknow? At least then people will actually care that YOU died.
- ordig, on 12/06/2007, -14/+33Too much Christmas music?
- bcamp1973, on 12/06/2007, -3/+21I'm so sick of psycho freaks "making themselves famous". A law should be passed. If you commit a horrific crime your name and image may not be said/shown in the media. You may only be referred to as "the psychopath". This way all the pathetic voyeurs still get to soak up the other details of your story and you don't get to be remembered as anything more than another faceless, nameless freak that should have just killed himself for the good of the many.
- zirconx, on 12/06/2007, -1/+18This mall does not allow concealed carry. There are signs posted on the doors. I'm sure they think it makes it safer.
- cracker42, on 12/06/2007, -1/+17On Good Morning America, his foster mother or whatever summarized the note he left for her. He said something like "my whole life I've been a piece of *****. Now everyone will remember me". And then people still wonder why he would kill other people instead of just himself... it's for all the ***** attention the media gives this *****!
- Frostman3D, on 12/06/2007, -5/+21I'd like to bring him back to life and kick his ass.
- 4eloBek, on 12/06/2007, -0/+16i order online from now on...
- saiyanate, on 12/06/2007, -5/+20I object to the inaccurate use of the term "sniper." I also morally object to the phrase "opened fire." The use of such language is unobjective, inflammatory and irresponsible.
- Brazoliange, on 12/06/2007, -0/+15Same here. I'm 18 and it's disturbing that someone similar in the area decided to do something like this.
- gharding, on 12/06/2007, -2/+17That was posted AFTER the shooting. Look at the timestamp (EST) and then check the police reports for the time of the shooting.
- scrimaxinc, on 12/06/2007, -2/+16Ahhh the go-to fat consumer insults. It says "after the shooting". You have no idea what the environment was like. People were hiding in dressing rooms and *****. If the cops came in and told me that the guy was dead, I'd grab my ***** and go home. No need to be a dick.
- drizzlelicious, on 12/06/2007, -5/+19Sadly, making guns illegal will take them away from the people that will use them responsibly, but not guys like these.
- woonie, on 12/06/2007, -0/+12As always, the gunman is suicidal, so he has to take some people along with him so he won't die lonely. Just how many times have we seen this scenario lately?
R.I.P. - sniurkst, on 12/06/2007, -1/+13Computer games, obviously.
/sarcasm - jonmlm, on 12/06/2007, -1/+13front page news every else 24 hours ago.
- dfdemar, on 12/06/2007, -0/+11A lot of news sites were calling his SKS an "assault rifle."

http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/6795/1196909942 ... - Curlz31, on 12/06/2007, -4/+15I feel for the victims families. Although I was not an opponent of the gun amnesty here in Australia, the United States is a very different story because you are at risk from tyrannical governments. My advice to all Americans is DO NOT GIVE UP YOUR GUNS, the second amendment was put there because the founding fathers knew the future military and economic power of the United States would be attractive to tyrants seeking global dominance. DO NOT ACCEPT AMNESTY, not only for the sake of your own country, but also for others.
- sundancekid503, on 12/06/2007, -2/+12The UK and the US are very different places. In the US there are many large rural areas that simply do not have adequate police coverage. Without guns, people in these areas would have no means to protect themselves. Waiting 2+ hours for police to arrive, or defending yourself with a pocketknife isn't an option.
The real problem here isn't guns, the problem is that we're over medicating our youth. The one thing that seems to tie 90% of these shootings together is that the shooter is on anti-depressants. - atomic811, on 12/06/2007, -1/+11Like all the school shooting including VA Tech he too was on an SSRI antidepressant
- elipabst, on 12/06/2007, -0/+10Makes for better headlines. It's the same reason I keep seeing the term "assault rifle" being used to describe the SKS he used in the shootings.
- gtluke, on 12/06/2007, -1/+10i guess you have never seen full metal jacket
- thoughtless, on 12/06/2007, -0/+8I wish I had more thumbs up to give. How come this isn't being discussed more?! Like this video on cnn.com - http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2007/news/omaha.mall.s ... - his friend mentions anti depressants and the interviewer just glances right over it. I think that should at least merit a follow up question....
You give kids drugs that mess with their brain chemistry and they do crazy things... go figure. Go Paxil! - LordRahl72, on 12/06/2007, -2/+10It is the Medias fault here. These sick people think that they will get famous if they go kill a bunch of people before they kill themselves. I guess having your name and face all over the TV and Internet and even having a equally insane Bush to comment on your insanity is about as famous as anyone could hope to get.
These things would not happen as often if the news media would report what happened and not give any name of the crazy fool that did it and then go to the next story and be done with it. - dfdemar, on 12/06/2007, -1/+9MSNBC didn't do this, but most news sites have been calling the SKS rifle he used an "assault rifle." The media can be so stupid sometimes.
- PueSi, on 12/06/2007, -7/+15I bet if he didn't have acces to guns, he wouldn't be able to shoot 8 people.
- roodammy44, on 12/06/2007, -0/+8Godwin's law already?
You fail, this thread is over - vtsvenjob, on 12/06/2007, -2/+9You mean Voldemort?
- JangoFett, on 12/06/2007, -4/+11"President Bush was in Omaha on Wednesday for a fundraiser but left about an hour before the shooting."
Nah, he got the hell out before the ***** hit the fan - alittleroy101, on 12/06/2007, -7/+14ughh god. I get so sick of that.
Hitler also wanted the trains to run on time. OH NO! Call Amtrack!
Hitler also wanted his city to be clean. OH NO! Stop cleaning!
German civilians would have done exactly NOTHING even if they were armed to the teeth. The whole country was complicit or complacent. - elipabst, on 12/06/2007, -1/+8There are a number of countries that have equal if not higher gun ownership rates like Israel and Switzerland. These countries do not have remotely the same gun-related homicide rates as the US, so it's clearly not related to how prevalent guns are.
- RandaII, on 12/06/2007, -2/+9It's sad that stuff like this takes a a day or so to make it on the front page. while anything ron paul or ***** Ubuntu makes it in hours. This is sad and I feel sorry for the people who got shot. Honor the people who lost their lives for doing nothing wrong. I really hope they put up a page so we can donate to the peoples families. This is real news not some howto for ubuntu or how ron paul is the next big thing.
- Lanefair, on 12/06/2007, -2/+9How do you kill yourself with a Rifle? Portals?
- gtluke, on 12/06/2007, -1/+8end the media frenzy over this kind of stuff and you'll end the problem.
whatever happened to the "man who's name we will never speak" -
