  • DashingLeech, on 10/10/2007, -5/+46Considering that our intelligence is best explained via sexual selection (reproduction rate traits) instead of natural selection (survival traits) (a la "Mating Mind" by Geoffrey Miller), we're not de-evolving (or "defeating" natural selection), we're reaching a balance point where our intelligence probably won't go any further because it doesn't improve our reproductive success to do so, like the peacocks tail reaching a length that optimizes it's reproductive success. In other words, as a species we've overshot the balance a little and now we're getting a little less tail. ;)

    Those who (for whatever reason) feel that they cannot obtain success in the dominant culture create sub-cultures with alternative definitions of success (i.e. valuing "intelligence" over "desirability").
