"what about the other 99% of meth user, the responsible ones, that didn't turn into lowlife scum ?"
Responsible meth users? Seriously? Are you high? - speedyrev, on 10/12/2007, -4/+177@blueskydiver
Meth causes skin thinning , acne and open sores. It also causes your teeth to rot out. No one needs to bash in your face, the drug does it for you. - blueskydiver76, on 10/12/2007, -6/+159Forgive me for not knowing much about this ***** but does meth cause most people to just randomly bash their face into ***** or is that some kind of meth induced acne?
- AniceAtheist, on 10/12/2007, -18/+168no one wants to legalize Meth.
The legalization issues is predominantly only about Marijuana. A drug that is better for your health then the drug of alcohol (yes it is) or Nicotine.
Before and after photos of pot smokers would show the same person with a bigger smile. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+108Holy crap! Meth = Miracle drug!
It made this balding guy's hair grow back - http://www.drugfree.org/Portal/DrugIssue/MethResources/faces/photo_9.html - kidblast, on 10/12/2007, -2/+85"Before and after photos of pot smokers would show the same person with a bigger smile."
and cheetos stains on their mouth and hands. - kent1146, on 10/12/2007, -1/+82"is that some kind of meth induced acne?"
Some of it is acne, yes. But a lot of the sores and open wounds you see on meth addicts are "meth sores." One of the side effects of meth is that it makes you nervous and jittery, so you constantly scratch yourself as if you think there are bugs crawling on your skin. The toll of doing that day after day is that you end up scratching your skin off, leaving these red oozing sores all over your arms and face. - Digg4all, on 10/12/2007, -18/+86"what about the other 99% of meth user, the responsible ones, that didn't turn into lowlife scum ?"
The responsible ones? What are you smoking? - derricklorah, on 10/12/2007, -3/+64i'd like to see some before and afters of some World of Warcraft players....
- brad06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+60The same person who jacked your sense of humor.
ziiiiiiing - zelig, on 10/12/2007, -2/+61Most of these folks looked scary enough before they got into it (or were they already doing it, or something even worse?) Anyway, what I'd like to see are some pics of really hot people who took the methscalator down...
- LesterKing, on 10/12/2007, -10/+55"now remind me again why people want to legalize this stuff?"
Because if people want to destroy themselves it's their own business. The government has no place dictating what you can and can't do to your body.
As long as you don't harm others, do what you want. - kettle, on 10/12/2007, -3/+44@shodanx Interesting, and in a lot of cases true. I've met plenty of responsible drinkers and pot smokers. But I've never met a responsible meth addict. One of my best friends in high school took a year-long ride on the 'methscalator', and it took quite a lot of help from everyone close to him to get him back on track.
Modern Meth is pretty bad shiz.
That said, criminalization of usage is idiotic, and these pictures, while grim, don't tell us anything about the underlying causes of these peoples' addiction. I highly doubt that any of them started doing meth because they thought it would give them a munster make-over, or because they expected it to be a positive influence on their life. - AntBing, on 10/12/2007, -8/+48Ok...this post convinced me...I'll stop.
- ProximaC, on 10/12/2007, -6/+36"no one wants to legalize Meth."
Untrue. Go google the words "legalize drugs" and you'll find a crap load of pages about people who want to legalize ALL drugs, including meth, crack, cocaine, heroine, opium, pot, and everything else. - RoyRP216, on 10/12/2007, -11/+41Because no one should be punished for doing something to themselves, and making it illegal (obviously) will not stop people from doing it.
- UltimaNut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Ok, who got my yearbook picture!!
- baalzebub, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29i know of one meth addict personally, he used to have a great job, a pretty wife and two great kids, nice three bedroom brick home, now he has no job, his wife divorced him, now he lives in a run down apartment in a ghetto, i see him walking down the street when i have to drive thru that part of town some times, he is only in his late 30s but he looks like he is in his 60s, that fool wrecked his life with meth...
- calebhawk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26i think his strategy for his hair was called "***** it"... try that
- gerry87, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26Lets face it, none of them were exactly lookers in the before picture either.
- slanted, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26"now remind me again why people want to legalize this stuff?"
Because legal or not, meth-heads are going to do it.
Making it legal you:
1) Lower the crime. Meth-heads may still steal to feed their habit, but they do that anyways. You eliminate the need for gangs and violence on the retail end, since you'd probably be able to pick some up at the local 7-11.
2) Tax it - criminals and meth-heads should support our country too.
3) Relieve the stress on prisons - so they can hold the real criminals, those involved in crimes against other persons and property. Who the hell wants to pay XX dollars to house someone who did nothing more than hurt himself? Let him go hurt himself! Darwinism at it's finest.
Same with Pot-heads, crack-heads, coke-heads, and "any other"-head you can imagine. Those who want to do it, legal or not, will. - vertinox, on 10/12/2007, -17/+40@"what about the other 99% of meth user, the responsible ones, that didn't turn into lowlife scum ?"
To be fair Hilter was a meth users (mostly a derivative of it).
Then again most of the American Airforce during WWII was using similar drugs but in capsule form as well as the British Anti-Aircraft crews during the blizt.
Considering most of the ingredients in meth weren't made illegal til the late 90's, our fore fathers used derivatives quite a bit in over the counter medicines after the war until after the 70s and 80s which they outlawed meth products directly (although you still could get them by taking large amounts of sudafed etc).
But just like cocaine being outlawed and turned into a more harmful crack, the same thing has happened to meth. Its a shame our government takes an all or nothing approach because meth is bad, but the milder forms that we used to have OTC during the 60's weren't so bad. - ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Because they were already junkies.
- handsomehansen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17yeah, my government teacher wants all drugs to be legalized.
- EndersGame, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21I did meth once, it was a horrible experience. I thought it would be kind of like cocaine and it was similar, it just made me feel really dirty inside and it altered my brain and my lung capacity for a few weeks. Plus I didn't like the idea of not sleeping or eating for about three days. After that I never touched a drug again, I just kept to smoking weed every once in a while.
By the way, I would have never gotten into heavier drugs if weed was legal in the first place, once you get past doing one illegal drugs it makes the idea of doing more illegal drugs much easier to accept. I personally don't think meth should be legalized though, while I don't care if you hurt yourself, most meth addicts have children and its effects the kids in major ways. Most crack heads aren't sane after heavy use, they resort to all kinds of petty (and sometimes major) theft just to get more of the drug. - shadus, on 10/12/2007, -7/+23Because any individual should be free to do whatever they want with their own body.
The reality of it is, the war on drugs is more damaging and destructive than the people killing themselves with drugs would be.
The war on drugs is filling our jails with people who really AREN'T criminals (gee you bad bad person you chose to ruin your own life... to jail with you... durrrr), if someone wants to kill them self its not my right to stop them, thats a choice they make and have the right to make about their own body.
Many of the negatives associated with drug use would be removed if drugs were legalized.
Largely the cost to society of legalization is less than the cost to society of maintaining the "war on drugs" and not just in a monetary sense. - appletalk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Truly sad.
- blimpmaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15@Rivetgeek
Your wrong. Smoking meth causes the mouth to dry up, i.e., LESS saliva. Saliva aids in fighting the acid that breaks down the enamel on the teeth. Tweakers are know for re-hydrating their mouths with high-calorie beverages, which as everyone knows are loaded with sugar. Now we have a mouth with less acid-fighting saliva and a ton of sugar just added to it. There is also a significant amount of grinding of the teeth while under the influence of meth which can also lead to "meth mouth." Also, the heat from the pipe will break down the enamel on the teeth as well.
Meth addicts don't really care about much. Two things on their minds most of the time, sex and the next rock. They don't bathe for days and rarely do they have any type of oral hygiene.
I have been an addictions counselor for the last 15 years and have pretty much seen it all. I am also a recovering heroin addict. So take my word, no drug is good when abused. - NinjaBoy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16@rageguy
Duuuuuuddee if your friend had his life ruined by weed, then it probably wouldn't haven taken much to destroy it anyways. I smoke on a regular basis and work in the IT field. Everyone i know smokes. It hasn't made us any stoopiter.. - vertinox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14@"Very few substances on this Earth can wreck as much havoc on a user's body as meth."
Meth ain't got nothing on Polonium. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16That sounds like my brother - and he never touched the stuff. The only thing your story proves is that life is a bitch.
- sgtawol, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Legalize it all.
2 benefits:
1. Stupid people OD on it and die, therefore cleaning out the gene pool a little bit.
2. The Govt can tax the heck out of it and pay off some debt.
Only problem with it is people using and driving, crackheads stealing, shooting, mugging, etc etc... - pexor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13We have billboards of these pictures along our highways here in Arkansas. I live in a dry county and every time I make a trip to the liquor store I see them. It's a pretty big problem down in the south, meth labs are blowing up or getting raided all the time. It's one of the nastiest drugs around... the other day a meth head borrowed/stole my pliers and monkey wrench, I'm still pissed :(
- vertinox, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19@"Go google the words "legalize drugs" and you'll find a crap load of pages about people who want to legalize ALL drugs, including meth, crack, cocaine, heroine, opium, pot, and everything else."
Um... I can use google to find plenty of pages about how cannibalism is good and that the moon landings were faked, Nazi bases in the antartic, and that the government uses mind control with reptilian over lords, but that doesn't make it so.
Any crackpot with MS front page can put up a crap webpage about any agenda, but doesn't mean he is the mainstream view of the matter if he is the top hit on google. - AriaStar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11None of these pictures show the tooth loss that also happens. Most of my relatives (notice I don't call them "family") are drug addicts who use meth. It's even worse than this. Yes, you look like hell and lose all your teeth, but the homelessness and crime, having too many children who end up suffering.... This pictures barely scratch the surface.
- Catalyst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Interestingly 3rd row down all the way to the right..... he looks the same except for some ***** up hair. That's very atypical.
I used this CRAP from age 17.9 until age 20.5. It didn't really ***** up my appearance but it does ***** with your brain. I feel about 20iq points dumber than when I was 17. Let's see.... what should have been the wakeup call? When I went into the military and got kicked out because there was still some residual meth in my blood? When I got back and was involved in a drug bust where the front door was busted down and I had a gun in my face? (fortunately for me they were after someone else living there.. I was a visitor). I *almost* got arrested several times but am lucky I never did. I lost friends and alienated my family. My wake up call was meeting my wife just as I was about 2 weeks clean...... she made me think "Hey I can change my life for the better.... just have to stay clean" and that was enough.
To the people who have thought this is hilarious...... it's not even close.
Don't EVER start..... please. - BryanTravers, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15The 'After' picture of the guy in the 3rd row, 3rd column, just looks badass. If I could get my hair to do that, I'd be all about it.
- hybridcreation, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Very few substances on this Earth can wreck as much havoc on a user's body as meth.
I mean...do most people even know what is in that stuff or how it's made?? Look it up...it will shock you that people will actually voluntarily put this stuff into their bodies.
A local paper did a story on a bunch of local meth house that had recently been busted. Almost all of them had to be torn down and disposed of by Haz-Mat teams. One was across the street from a school and the guy was living there with his 9-year-old son. - Xanadude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Sheesh, most of these people just need a bath, a healthy meal, and some moisturizer. Oh, and a retroactively happy childhood.
- killinger777, on 10/12/2007, -25/+35I am not sure about legalizing it. But I don't think people should be put in prison for it.
- rshu4you, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Get off dial-up it is worse then meth
- printenv, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13@ProximaC
Yah, except I get to pay for it though my taxes when these individuals end up in the hospital, blow stuff up because of meth labs. I have to pay for the welfare, child services dealing with the children etc. as a result. Doesn't hurt anyone else my ass. They do this to themselves and destroy themselves and in the process cause everyone else in the community to pick up the pieces. I call that just plain selfish on their part and as a result it should be banned. Saying "it doesn't hurt anyone else" is a foolish argument because it does hurt others. - meshman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9They might be cool to see but It takes 10 minutes to load ONE pair of photos.
- zeero, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11"it makes you nervous and jittery"
ohh thats why the guy was scratching himself so much in a scanner darkly.. wow - Skullpop, on 10/12/2007, -10/+18Damn.. I'd say that it made this guy a whole lot cooler. Nice hair!
http://www.drugfree.org/Portal/DrugIssue/MethResources/faces/photo_9.html - UnglueD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Seems he found the cure for male pattern baldness... meth
- woodge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@floodo1
Except with meth, you actually do ingest all the harmful chemicals that went into making it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7People are in favor of legalizing all drugs because the war on drugs has been an absolute failure. Criminalizing people with addiction has absolutely no positive effect. It is a totally wrong headed and wasteful approach to what is a horrible problem for many people. Just think about how many people you know who were cured of their addiction by being sent to prison. None right? And if you look at the stats - most people in prison by a large margin are in there for drugs. And just like lifting prohibition - it would remove the violent criminal dealers from the equation.
- ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13@AniceAtheist
You mean less harmful. .. I know about its medical uses, but we are not talking about that here, apparently. - JD52, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7http://www.ownmyseat.com/images/orly.jpg
