- ironeus, on 08/01/2008, -1/+11I like how step #5 reminds you to "actually work" -- classic!

- inactive, on 07/11/2008, -0/+6I wish I had a boss that I could escape from.
- Surferess, on 07/11/2008, -0/+6It is easier if you start with asking at the beginning of the job.
- Omek, on 07/11/2008, -0/+6Working from home is so much better than a cubicle.

Telecommuting sounds very good. - victoryv, on 07/11/2008, -1/+4good post and wise advices.
- inactive, on 07/12/2008, -0/+3I disagree with step 2 - yes, you get valuable work experience from an unenjoyable job, and that experience is interviewing for a new better job so you can leave your ***** one. Working a ***** job is a last-resort sort of thing - there are millions of jobs, and if you don't like the one you've got, you should be putting your effort in to finding one you do, not keeping the one that makes you miserable.
- Akaziel, on 07/12/2008, -0/+2I work at a bar. Most days out of the week, I'm their doorman/bouncer. On saturdays, I DJ karaoke. I need to find a way of telecommuting both of those. The karaoke is more fun being there, but the bouncer part....it's boring and stupid. What was once a hopping, rowdy bar has run it's shelf life. We're now fairly slow and we're lucky to have an altercation once every couple of months. I get so bored, all I do is watch reruns of CSI and Law & Order. But telecommuting? That'd be kinda awesome, just setting up a webcam and a sign. "PLEASE HOLD YOUR ID UP TO THE WEBCAM FOR AGE VERIFICATION". Then a speaker in the bar, so I could yell at rowdy patrons from my computer's mic.
"Hey! Hey you two! Knock it off! Don't make me get dressed, put my shoes on, drive 15 minutes there, and break that up! I'll- Oh that's it. Now you're in trouble. Stay right there; in about 20 minutes, I'm gonna kick your ass. Don't go anywhere, I'm on my way! You'd better still be there when I get there, so I can kick you out!" - jchrome, on 07/12/2008, -0/+2I do a split schedule, 3 days at the office & 2 at home. VPN + remote desktop helps if I need to access my work machine for some reason. Works perfectly, still get to see the people I need to see and can actually be productive the days I don't have to come in and deal with 1000 distractions, not to mention 2 less days a week dealing with traffic...
- Chicken, on 07/12/2008, -0/+2Isn't advice plural already?

- edebolt, on 07/12/2008, -1/+2I would constantly eat burritos, peanuts and drink cola and the resulting gas emissions did the trick.. 90% Telecommuting now
