- QuantumBios, on 03/08/2009, -3/+36The number one lobbyist for the continued prohibition against marijuana is Anheiser-Busch. This company is throwing millions of dollars at our "representatives" to prohibit freedom, stop an economic boom, and increase market share and profit.
- oRocketSurgeryo, on 03/08/2009, -1/+26Man would it even take a load off my back if I could just grow 1 or 2 nice plants for myself without having to worry about being busted. What's so wrong with that? I just want to relax a bit after a hard days work and not have to go to some shady area to get my one little crutch in life.
- Barackalypse, on 03/08/2009, -5/+26Or, like me, some people dislike marijuana, believe that it is bad for people that use it, and still don't think that is any reason for the Government to get involved and punish people for making choices that only hurt themselves. Drugs are bad, Government is worse, mmkay?
- Murdats, on 03/08/2009, -4/+24why don't you let people live how they want to? and why do you use made up facts to argue against a position that doesn't affect you.
- FasterGun, on 03/08/2009, -0/+15I did a wicked ***** google seach and found this:
"For a group fighting drug abuse, the Partnership has taken cash from some odd parties—including American Brands (Jim Beam whisky), Philip Morris(Marlboro and Virginia Slims cigarettes, Miller beer), Anheuser Busch (Budweiser, Michelob, Busch beer), R.J. Reynolds (Camel, Salem, Winston cigarettes), as well as pharmaceutical firms Bristol Meyers-Squibb, Merck & Company and Proctor & Gamble (Marin Institute Backgrounder, 2/97). " http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=1390 - Metavised, on 03/08/2009, -1/+16Could you provide a source for this information?
I really want to know if this is true. - Andrwmorph, on 03/08/2009, -1/+15"Pot is a dangerous, mind-altering drug that destroys lives."
List destroyed lives please. - leafybean, on 03/08/2009, -1/+15The reason why individuals with painful afflictions choose to use cannabis over green tea is many fold.
1. Cannabis is a very powerful pain reliever. Green tea, not so much.
2. Cannabis improves appetite in individuals that have suppressed appetite. Strike two for green tea.
3.Cannabis has been proven to suppress nausea from illness as well as suppressing the gag-reflex that hinders anyone having to take large doses of anti-viral medication. Green tea, sorta soothes a upset stomach.
4.Cannabis can aid in rest and help to bring about deep sleep. Green tea can also aid in relaxation. But loses its edge when your in terrible pain.
As for "smoking some carcinogen", many users now use vaporizers that heat the cannabis, releasing the THC into a mist without burning any plant material. So you have practically nill intake of burnt materials, AKA carcinogens. - Metavised, on 03/08/2009, -0/+13@gothsquirrel
I did some reading.
The Partnership for a Drug-Free America accepted large donations from Anheiser-Busch, American Brands (whisky company), Philip Morris (Marlboro), R.J. Reynolds (Camel), and hand full of pharmaceutical firms.
It's a crazy world! - Metavised, on 03/08/2009, -3/+15Tell that to all the states in different phases decriminalization, medical marijuana legislation, and even legalization. Pick up any newspaper and you'll probably find a good article on the marijuana situation, if not an article at least a op-ed piece.
But why am I telling you this? The light of your faith shows you only what you want to believe. - Mudbeast, on 03/08/2009, -3/+15I still have money for rent, utilities, gas for my car first. But pot's in the budget too still. OMG world's ending, whatever. If you're broke it's probably your own fault. All the stoners I know have jobs still, including me.
- inactive, on 03/08/2009, -4/+15Did you ever notice no matter how bad the economy is people still have money for drugs, alcohol and tobacco
- leafybean, on 03/08/2009, -1/+11Granted, pot articles do get a lot of attention on digg.
And as for society as a whole, the discussion is growing by the day. Just less then a decade ago the idea of medical dispensaries was crazy nonsense. DARE was still being pushed over and over in our schools and public opinion was GREATLY slanted against legalization.
Times have changed however and the 50% mark on overall public opinion has nearly been reached.
http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2009/02/americans-g ... - bdbr, on 03/08/2009, -1/+10Marijuana grows like a weed. When I was a kid (on a ranch, I used to mow down tons of the stuff just to keep it from taking over fields. I can see why the last thing drug & alcohol lobbies want is an analgesic that you can easily grow for free in your backyard.
- Metavised, on 03/08/2009, -1/+10I'm glad we can both agree that you can explain things to people while they are high.
I see your coming around nolib and I appreciate it! - sigg14, on 03/08/2009, -0/+8a free society does not prohibit or regulate behavior or personal choices, unless of course they a danger to others. land of the free my ass. supposedly the government serves the people, why is the servant controlling the master?
- noumuon, on 03/08/2009, -1/+9"and not society as a whole!"
let's make everything illegal then, as nothing is popular with society as a whole. - blikemike88, on 03/08/2009, -1/+9I like how that entire list applies to alcohol to an even greater extent. ***** freedom if it's not a freedom you agree with, right?
- gread, on 03/08/2009, -1/+8Dralha on "Pot is a dangerous, mind-altering drug that destroys lives." Nothing more than a collection of mis-information being distributed by narrow-minded freaks with a hidden agenda. They want to influence social thinking on marijuana use by "scaring" the public with terrifying claims about marijuana use. "Impaired perception, Diminished inhibitions, Hallucinations". Sounds like one toke and you go crazy and murder your neighbour’s wife! Trouble is; we have heard these false claims since the days of Harry Anslinger and Reefer Madness and know that they do not care about the harm being propagated by prohibition. Organized crime, unnecessary incarceration, social breakdown and out casting are just a few of the negative consequences of unreasonable prohibition for adult users. Many users now have most of a lifetime spent smoking the stuff with no ill effect. Where is the proof? Where is a reference to a credible source in their "information"? Screw them, legalize pot now.
- 47f0, on 03/08/2009, -1/+8Damn you, Barackalypse for forcing me to digg you up. It was painful, but I did it anyway.
- Metavised, on 03/08/2009, -1/+7Hey! Let's do both!
Seriously though, I already addressed the faulty way you anti-cannabis trolls used the testicular study. Need I really repeat myself when you couldn't form even the smallest of fact based argument? - spyd3rweb, on 03/08/2009, -0/+6No, a free society does not prohibit or regulate behavior or personal choices period. If damage to property is done and there is a victim the correct remedy is the court system. If there is no victim there is no crime.
- Mudbeast, on 03/08/2009, -1/+7Yes it is anecdotal and isn;t evidence of anything. That was kind of the point as OP talks about "society as a whole" which he only knows about from his own limited viewpoint. You're both idiots.
- Metavised, on 03/08/2009, -0/+6You're taking someone you don't know, mixing in beliefs with motive and emptying your conclusion into a small comment, then you wait with bated breathe for a response. Then you claim you know his dietary habits, what television shows he likes and claim to know his employment status. That can't be good for your argument.
- Metavised, on 03/08/2009, -0/+5"Good call"
- mklnz2, on 03/08/2009, -6/+11Legalize it already ...
- gothsquirrel, on 03/08/2009, -4/+9To celebrate buy this http://store.theonion.com/drugs-win-drug-war-1998- ...
- Metavised, on 03/08/2009, -1/+6My finger hurts as well.
- sigg14, on 03/08/2009, -1/+6does personal freedom destroy lives? if someone else wants to partake in behavior that may have risks to them and them alone, how the ***** is that any of your business? or the governments? oh and by the way all those dangers are *****.
- sigg14, on 03/08/2009, -0/+5http://akchrsisadouche.com
- entropysteak, on 03/08/2009, -2/+7except that they believe it is bad based on false data and years of fear mongering.
- SzaszMan, on 03/09/2009, -0/+4Dugg simply for the really nice bud shot. That's practically pot porno.
- Metavised, on 03/08/2009, -2/+6I noticed how this comment shows up in every cannabis article.
- sigg14, on 03/08/2009, -0/+4you seem to lack cognitive reason in your normal unaltered mindstate, maybe you should smoke some pot and see if it has a reverse effect on you.
- sigg14, on 03/08/2009, -0/+4my balls, I will do what i want to them. worry about your own balls
- Murdats, on 03/08/2009, -0/+4I think he is refering to the study that demonstrated a loose correlation between THC ingestion and testicular cancer that is far, FAR from conclusive
- CivicTV, on 08/14/2009, -1/+5@Dralha In your user info you stated the following:
"It is a moral imperative to fight against the ebola of republicanism and its legacies of war, torture, death, and theocracy. That is why I proudly voted for Barack Obama for the next president of the United States."
You mean the same president who smoked cannabis? - 47f0, on 03/08/2009, -1/+5NoLib - what's wrong with you? Seriously. I've seen your posts around, and I don't even disagree with (some) of them. But on this issue, you seem to have blinders and a bug up your butt.
You have made the assumption that pot use will skyrocket if legalized. I think that's borderline arrogant - "Of course I would never use it - but the rest of you weak fools would."
Nonsense. I wouldn't. A majority of my peers wouldn't. They've already made their choice.
All we are succeeding in with this misbegotten war on drugs is fueling drug violence and terrorism, creating a huge underground and criminal economy, providing avenues for corruption of public officials, and wasting over twenty billion dollars a year defying the most basic of economic principles - supply will meet demand.
You know who liked prohibition? Al Capone. Ahh - those were the good old days - except they weren't. We're still practicing the same short-sighted policies - with the same horrific results.
In the meantime, if you're an alcoholic, or hooked on your legally prescribed drugs, you get to be Rush Limbaugh. - inactive, on 03/08/2009, -0/+4That bud looks really good
- imcostalong, on 03/08/2009, -0/+3You love to make ***** up when you comment nolib
- maximilen, on 03/09/2009, -0/+3In George Carlin's words, "***** the children!"
- Mudbeast, on 03/08/2009, -2/+5Man I would move on except you seem to have a flaw in your ability to reason. Attacking your person would be criticizing your weight/height/haircut. I attacked your ability to properly form a sentence, and THIS time you made a sentence fragment.
You can't argue properly if you can''t follow simple grammar and punctuation rules.
No wonder you didn't get the point of my original comment as you obviously are functionally illiterate. - Skull0Inc, on 03/09/2009, -0/+3Dammit, I need to smoke this LEGALLY. let's do this now.
- noumuon, on 03/08/2009, -2/+5"Instead of smoking some carcinogen that causes testicular cancer"
[citation needed] - tribowl, on 03/08/2009, -2/+5Say what you will, it gives you the munchies which lead to obesity. Haha, that's going to be the last defense against it
- Mudbeast, on 03/08/2009, -3/+6I'd say 60% of the people I know from all walks of life and age groups smoke weed and I live in a very conservative/Republicrust area.
- Mudbeast, on 03/08/2009, -2/+5And you use polysyllables to make yourself seem intelligent when someone calls you an idiot, yet your first sentence has an unnecessary pronoun which makes you look dumb. Go try to condescend to someone who cares, buddy.
- OPR8R, on 03/08/2009, -0/+3Interesting... I would've thought the pharmaceuticals would've been #1...
- gothsquirrel, on 03/08/2009, -1/+4I always drank when i smoked I don't understand why Budweiser would be against this.
- maximilen, on 03/09/2009, -0/+2I don't understand the whole Mexico/Latin America pot connection... I mean *****, who wants stale, shwag weed that was smuggled across the border? My kush was grown in right here in Huntington Beach, California with Sublime tracks stimulating its growth!
Other drugs like Coke, opium I understand, but that's not even question for legalization now. -
