- beachsouthpaw, on 12/14/2008, -0/+84Buried as misleading. The weight is just a coping device for the harsh upcoming Canadian winter. Once summer comes around and hiberation is over, they'll be skinny again.
- thethunderbird, on 12/14/2008, -2/+66My guess is they were being educated not doing the educating.

- smitty72, on 12/14/2008, -3/+31Obesity is not a disease. The only reason it can even be considered such a thing is so that more diet drugs can be approved, or it can be used as a cover for those in denial of having control over their body. Yes some have a slower metabolism than others, but most are just damned lazy.

- deeboe, on 12/14/2008, -3/+25I think the quote from Deuce Bigalow sums it up best: http://www.moviewavs.com/0038475992/MP3S/Movies/De ...
- falser, on 12/14/2008, -1/+21This the result of a typical Canadian winter diet of back bacon, poutine, eggnog, and Tim Horton's Canadian Maple donuts. And that's for breakfast on the way to the shopping mall, which is generally the only open heated space around for miles. Then they return the den to watch Hockey Night in Canada, and groan about the new theme song, and curse the government for imploding one month after an election.
- cliffzdude, on 12/14/2008, -1/+21Today's obesity is largely a result of less physical labor and lots of very available yummy food. Many have to simulate physical labor (exercise) and work to restrain our evolved desire to pack in available calories just to maintain weight. Our bodies have evolved to survive conditions that are quite contrary to our modern fluffy lifestyle. We crave sugars and fats because caloric density is efficient eating. Not long ago an evening meal meant a lot of physical labor - just to feed a couple of people. Cutting wood, hauling water, etc...
Fortunately with self discipline we can train ourselves to eat right and exercise. But it may be more important than we realize to train our little ones these facts. - dschmink, on 12/14/2008, -3/+23Don't be ignorant. Obesity is not a disease. It's the product of people being lazy eating their McDonalds all the damn time.
And if anyone uses the "I have an underactive thyroid" excuse, just remember your thyroid only accounts for a maximum of 10% of your body composition. I'm so tired of people trying to have an excuse when all they really need to do is stop stuffing their fat faces. - theadvinci, on 12/14/2008, -6/+26"Don't eat that paste!" says teacher... takes the paste away... takes a lick.
- Defiant001, on 12/14/2008, -1/+19Rarely?! What part of Canada are you from, I see far too much of this.

- adiyo011, on 12/14/2008, -1/+17And in my school, in the cafeteria, healthy food is priced higher than junk food. The school could at least incentivize by raising the junk food's price. I see roughly 100 people line up to stuff their face everyday.

Do as I say, Not as I do occurs on both sides of the Atlantic. - purplefruit, on 12/14/2008, -2/+16Here's a way to solve our energy/health crises at the same time. Have all fat people power the country on bicycle power plants.
30% of americans are obese = 100 million people
~2/3 adult population = 66 million people
80 - 200 W power generated from person on bicycle
90% efficiency of turbine
= 4.8 - 12 GW of power = 4-12 nuclear power plant units - inactive, on 12/14/2008, -0/+13***** the harpoons, nuke them from orbit.
