- DeskFlyer, on 05/07/2008, -4/+88Ah yes, breasts. Is there anything they can't do?
- inactive, on 05/07/2008, -4/+64is it a surprise that feeding a baby the natural way is more beneficial than the artificial way?
- Mohdoo, on 05/07/2008, -0/+52I think all of these perfectly valid questions deserve answers.
- theblueprint, on 05/07/2008, -1/+45Thanks, Mom.
- tzisc, on 05/07/2008, -1/+44You're dating your mom?
- Muero, on 05/07/2008, -0/+42You drink milk from her breasts?
- tnoy, on 05/07/2008, -2/+41You have nipples on your hand?
- fitqueenb, on 05/07/2008, -3/+38There are so many added benefits for the baby to breast feed, less chance of developing allergies is another, as well as breastfed babies generally get less sick.
- RagnabroK, on 05/07/2008, -2/+37The opposite rings true as well, Intelligent guys seem to get less breasts :(
- inactive, on 05/07/2008, -9/+32I continue to simulate this action with my girlfriend, just in case...
- tanxadillo, on 05/07/2008, -1/+22Wow, surprised that Digg doesn't posses some anti-Breast Feeding zealots. Usually, you guys have a juxtaposition to every single stance. I'm going to let it slide this time, though, cause it is fairly late.
- lucidguru, on 05/07/2008, -9/+28If it works on children, does it work on adults?
- HappyScrappy, on 05/07/2008, -7/+24Correlation does not equal causation.
It's very likely it's just that the same kind of parent that cares enough to breastfeed also gets more involved in their child's development. - Jareth86, on 05/07/2008, -5/+21I don't understand mothers who deny their kids breastfeeding. It's what they're ***** there for!
- h3llscaper, on 05/07/2008, -5/+20Wow you're a huge douche lol
- MoofTheStoof, on 05/07/2008, -1/+16Children get benefit from breast milk up until the age of two. Weaning at one year is more common, though, and that's fine as the first year is the most important. My wife was a Registered Dietician, and this was one of her big issues. It's critical to breast feed your children, if you're able. The benefits are almost too numerous to count.
- zombird, on 05/07/2008, -0/+15Give it time. People like to bitch.
- fxu1989, on 05/07/2008, -4/+17Breastfeeding at 8

imo, breastfeeding after 5 years old is kinda ridiculous... - ConanTL, on 05/07/2008, -1/+13That done explain why I not smart!
- xaaronreevesx, on 05/07/2008, -5/+17and all my friends said I was stupid for still living with my mom...HA! JOKES ON THEM! THEY DON'T GET ANY BRAIN JUICE!
- inactive, on 05/07/2008, -7/+19OM NOM NOM NOM
- Hangly, on 05/07/2008, -1/+11So does that mean America's IQ dipped from the norm a little bit in the 50's and 60's when everyone was drinking formula? That certainly would explain the state of the country.
- madeingermany, on 05/07/2008, -1/+10+ It's a lot cheaper then buying formula ;)
But how do they define "prolonged and exclusive breastfeeding"? 6 months? 18? - duke1981, on 05/07/2008, -3/+12I thought this was common knowledge?
- Frankenface, on 05/07/2008, -3/+11Every headline I have read about this is ass-backwards, and assumes that feeding corporate formula products is the norm. Hence it is spun that children can get a "boost" in IQ from natural feeding - rather than what the study actually shows - children who are formula fed are not as intelligent ( as well as being at a higher risk for all kinds of diseases). Pass this along...
- MoofTheStoof, on 05/07/2008, -2/+10I knew what he meant. I just chose to use his jack-assery as a chance to get some real info out there. This is an important issue. A lot of new moms feel pressured to wean too quickly, or even to not breastfeed at all because of various social stigma. I even knew one girl who didn't want to because she thought it inconvenient. These attitudes need to change.
- onestrawplz, on 05/07/2008, -2/+10this has been known since the beginning of time.
- madeingermany, on 05/07/2008, -1/+9By the way, did you know that most women can produce breast milk, even if they didn't give birth to a baby?
I was surprised ;)
http://www.adopting.org/adoptions/factsheet-breast ... - Jelga, on 05/07/2008, -1/+8Dugg, that was kinda ***** up, 8 years old is way too old to be drinking breast milk from ones mother.
- PolarBearCa, on 05/07/2008, -0/+7That and a social outcast...
- jp12380, on 05/07/2008, -0/+7What country is that?
- l31101, on 05/07/2008, -0/+7Why do you hate me mom?
- Shuukyoku, on 05/07/2008, -1/+7You know, its ironic, because whenever I'm looking at breasts I get dumber...
- Auzy, on 05/07/2008, -1/+7Prolonged would probably be 8 years.
ie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxv6R9fUO74 - dtele, on 05/07/2008, -1/+7Dont know why I got burried for making that statement, but heres the proof from six months ago:
http://www.reuters.com/article/scienceNews/idUSL05 ... - thingalon, on 05/07/2008, -1/+7Dugg up for remembering to add "if you're able". Informing everyone that breastfeeding is good for your child is good, but there are some people who take this a bit far and demonize mothers who simply can not for a valid reason.
- inactive, on 05/07/2008, -3/+95? Seriously? I'd put the "ridiculous" bar a bit lower.
- PolarBearCa, on 05/07/2008, -3/+9This stuff had already been reasonably proven in the past. The only significant difference here is that they reinforced the previous results with an even larger number of subjects in the study. There were studies showing this long before my daughter was born, and she was born in 2000.
Good to see it being reported, but what we REALLY need to hope for is that it leads to breastfeeding becoming the norm once again, as it was before formula companies started advertising their "benefits" and "convenience".
Thing is, I don't think the point is that breastfeeding increases IQ, as breastfeeding is the natural state of how things were done throughout human history and evolution. What it really means is that NOT breastfeeding LOWERS IQ. - gottsegnet, on 05/07/2008, -1/+6Not surprising, but it is always nice to see research that confirms what you would suspect to be true.
- innocentsinner, on 05/07/2008, -0/+5Why are people digging him down when it's true?
- Aensland, on 05/07/2008, -0/+5It's not a rickroll D:
- dtele, on 05/07/2008, -2/+7I had always assumed that this was common knowledge actually.
- yourbrokenoven, on 05/07/2008, -4/+9wow! yes! if we stop trying to screw with things, they do just fine if not better! what a shock! who knew??
- masterm1nd, on 05/07/2008, -3/+8The borat one.
- uberism, on 05/07/2008, -2/+7actually if we screw with things, they usually improve.
Hmmmmm.... medical advances for example? - Condemned, on 05/07/2008, -1/+5That's nasty. I wish that would've been a Rick Roll instead.
- Tralobyte, on 05/07/2008, -1/+5Yeah, a study showed that the number of books in a household correlates with the kids' intelligence too. Go figure.
- Hangly, on 05/07/2008, -1/+5If you have attractive nipples breastfeeding will ruin them.
If you're that worried about your body though it's best to not have kids. - SaladCactusKing, on 05/07/2008, -0/+4They taste better than mangos, mummy!
- inactive, on 05/07/2008, -10/+14Example number two.
