- bitt3n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18best way to avoid jetlag is to command your subjects to change their waking hours to match your own schedule when you arrive.
NOTE: this only works if you are emperor of the world. - finalmillenium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8*nods* Hang over's from plane flights suck. Especially when It's a work flight, and you are meeting the customer right after you land.
- Suits, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8As emperor of the world, I can attest to these methods. I prey everyone else finds the cure. =)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Personally, when I fly from New York to Israel (I work in the diamond industry), the best way I have found to avoid a hangover is to drink tonic water (no gin) non-stop. They will provide it to you on the flight for free if you ask. Also, do not eat on the flight. When you wake up the next "morning", you will feel hungry -- eat only protein, e.g. eggs and beef jerky. Works like 100% MAGIC, you will have NO JET LAG, guaranteed.
- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I fly from New York City to East Asia pretty often, a 12 hour difference. The best way is to skip the night time movies and sleep and wake according to the running lights on the plane. If they're dim and off, you sleep, if its lit, you stay awake. This is very important. People that stay up and watch the "night" movies (even if its bright outside) are most certain to get jetlag. I don't even lose half a day thanks to following the rules.
- Daniel591992, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3so walk instead???
- llamafest, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Even though you're emperor I hardly think it's fair that you get to hunt us while we look for a cure. I pray you will end this madness.
- fr0chu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2All you have to do is wait till you land, take your shoes of and make fists with your toes. works every time.
- MrTea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Go by boat?
- dacheetah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Better cure:
Fly, but get used to such a varied sleep pattern (while on the ground) that you cannot suffer any kind of timezone shock.
Pulling an all nighter every now and then helps there, movie marathons are great for this. I also often go to sleep by 10pm, and then (in the same week) don't go to sleep will the sun comes up. It takes alot to give me any jetlag symptoms.
If all else fails, Caffeine, and lots of it. - hiscity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Melatonin, 3 mg, available in Walmart. Non-addictive. A hormone derived from animals. Shifts your sleep cycle. I occasionally need one to go to bed early, and get up early, etc. Works great!
Take about an hour before bed. You'll get droopy eyed sleepy. Sleep may be shallower, but no matter ... whenever you wake in the morning it feels ok, even if you've only had several hours of sleep.
Walmart also sells 3 mcg tablets, (1000th the dose of the 3 mg tabs). Why I don't know. I often split a 3 mg tab which is good enough for me having a moderate build.
ps. Having contributed something worthwhile ... I'm now going to use the block user button ("not" sign next the user name) to dump all the wannabe comediennes in this and future threads into my kill list. Ditzy comments are worse than spam. Good riddance! - onwardknave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Take melatonin around your normal bedtime, and you'll alleviate (some/most) jet lag. Melatonin is a naturally occuring hormone in the brain which helps manage the body clock. Messing with anything stronger really isn't necessary, and is just a way to milk money off fabricated diseases, like how drug companies have renamed heartburn "acid reflux disease" to scare people.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm flying to the UK tomorrow and will use my time trusted method that I've used for many, many years. When I used to fly internationally at least once per month I discovered that the best thing to do is show up at the local hotel, shower and do a hotel recon. Hit up the local staff for the best nightclub in town. I never eat airline food, it sucks, so I eat on the ground when I arrive. Make through the day as best you can, nap if need be, but then go out on a drinking binge of biblical proportions that evening.
I'll be doing this Saturday when I arrive in the UK, if you live in Manchester, you may see me. - thomasprebble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For me the problem has always been the length of the flight. Jumping 6 hours has never been a problem for me but what has is the length of time you are on the plane tucked into a tight seat, belted in tight. My solution: Bring back the Concord!
- Lumbeekid06, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1best cure, dont fly
