- SlackerCSB, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Shocking new information: Limit unhealthy fats and cholesterol, Choose Low Fat, Eat Fruits and Vegtables, Eat Whole Grains, Practice Moderation
- noodlez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4summary:
1) Avoid unhealthy fats (i.e. use olive oil instead of butter)
2) Eat low-fat proteins (i.e. beans instead of ribs)
3) Eat fruits and vegetibles (not candy, dumbass)
4) Eat whole grains (i.e. whole wheat bread, not white bread)
5) Eat in moderation (5 lbs of whole wheat bread isn't 50x better than two slices)
my special bonus point:
6) Exercise, even if its just slow walking. Any exercise is better than no exercise. - noodlez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3they fit in the "moderation" part.
its cool to eat random crap, just don't eat only random crap. - dancpsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They were eating the "healthy" trans-fat laden margarine instead of butter to try and lose weight.
- josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2AHHHaight AHHHaight AHHHaight, put down that Calzone and take you hand off of that triple cheese double pepperoni lasagna deep dish pizza... and get your ass outta here. WTF!!!! NEVER I TELL YOU NEVE................ (clutching left arm)
I remember sitting down for breakfast with my grandfather one day and him telling me that if the good lord decided that it was his time to be taken into heaven then there wasn't a damn thing (his words not mine) he could do about it. If he wanted butter and not that damn margarine crap he would eat butter. All the while spreading real butter on his toast...
The man died of a MASSIVE heart attack about 4 years ago. - josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ Roppongi
Why can't Don Smoke? I don't get it?.... - Roppongi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Shouldn't "Don' Smoke" have made the list?
- theweekend, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I can't belive it's not butter....
- sciencebase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If all of this is soooo obvious and easy to do, why is obesity such a growing problem?
http://www.sciencebase.com/science-blog/defining-obesity.html - lithuin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Summary:
1) Don't eat lard.
2) Don't eat organs.
3) Don't eat fried zucchini.
4) Don't eat cake.
5) OK, sometimes eat lard. - mgjasper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Interesting that there was no focus on excess salt consumption.
- jmdajr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Reminders are good.
Don't forget... avacados also a good source of fat, - Malakin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is old information and some of it is now considered incorrect.
For example, coconut oil is very healthy for you and has a beneficial overall effect on your cholesterol. Coconuts are also very healthy for you.
Canola oil has some serious downsides, so I certainly wouldn't list it as being a healthy choice beside an oil such as olive oil, which really is a healthy choice. Canola has had some excellent marketing.
They recommend soy products, but don't mention the problems associated with eating a lot of soy. I hope this is common knowledge now, but there are some serious problems with eating a lot of soy and it's even banned in infant formulas in many countries. - meadot01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not sure the point you are trying to make. Butter and margarine are both bad. Butter is saturated and margarine is most of the time trans-fat - so the article would prefer butter over your typical margarine. There are of course 0 trans fat margarines that would be better.
- waz67, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here's an easy way to keep fit while sitting at your computer all day. Jiggle your knees up and down constantly. No, really. And no, not both at the same time, that would just look silly.
- Superkevbo, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1Sex is good. Have lots of sex. Have lots of safe sex.
http://www.condomman.com - JEWigs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I thought granola bars /granola were supposed to be good for you but they're on the "avoid!" list. Anyone have any idea why?
- B3bomber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why are soy products on that list? Soy is toxic to humans unless fermented (even then I don't like eating much of that on rice). 1/2 of this list looks like random made up things the FDA want you to believe. They tell us so much of this stuff is bad yet for some odd reason they approve of companies using them in the main ingrediants.
Next headline, Dust causes cancer!
I'll stick to what I normally eat that isn't pumped full of soy and growth hormones. - josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2How about lifting the remote up and down as you flip channels isn't that exercise? I like to do the 16 oz curls...raise, sip, down, raise, sip, down, then crush... About 20 of those reps will do you in for tha night...
- kimv3, on 03/21/2009, -0/+0I think more better use product slendertone belt, more information go http://slendertone-belt.blogspot.com
- lassa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's both sad and typical that a list like this wouldn't include exercise.
- dvdmon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0These are the same people who said that you should eat margarine (yummy trans fats) to avoid heart disease. Now they finally figured out how bad it is. But they still beat up on saturated fats despite there being little linkage between that and CHD risk. It's also laughable that they are still telling people to limit cholesterol, when the cholesterol in your body is made about 90% by your own liver! If you decrease your dietary cholesterol, your liver will simply make up the difference. Aside from which we actually need cholesterol to live. Even LDL cholesterol has a very shaky correspondence to CHD risk probably because there are both good and bad types of LDL. But those subtypes are not tested for in the standard lipid profile, which just calculates a total LDL number by an equation (it's not even measured directly). Most fat-free products have been processed to all hell and contain possibly dangerous by-products. Why not just tell people to stop eating processed foods, eat only organic fruits and veggies, free-range pork, poultry and eggs, or grass-fed meat? The answer isn't in restricting the stuff we evolved to eat, but in removing from the diet the foods we definitely did not eat until the last 10,000 years (or even the worse the last 100)!
- mgnff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Read the original article. The headline says "Heart-healthy eating to help prevent cardiovascular disease". It's about how to eat correctly to prevent cardiovascular disease, not about general prevention which is much more extensive than that.
- oneniner, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26. Run, Forrest, Run!
- hodyoaten, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Interesting that there's not one instance of the word "carbohydrates". Where do beer and sodas fit in?
- jakroo99, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Jwigs...granola bars are just like cereal for the most part......garbage stuffed with sugar....ok maybe im being a bit dramatic but i like to call that stuff empty calories because theres very little or no nutrients in it. Here are foods i stick to during the course of my day...egg whites, turkey meat, oatmeal, pasta (i know its a bad carb...trying to replace with brown rice), steamed veggies, chunk chicken breast, tuna, nonfat milk, peanut butter (contains a lot of mono+polyunsaturated fat...saturated fat=bad), walnuts (omega 3 acids good for heart), protein bar, protein shake (banana, milk, whey protein)...good carbs are ones that digest slowly throughout ur body like whole wheat products whereas bad carbs cause insulin spike in ur body and raise ur blood pressure...u want carbs that will slowly digest over time. Oh and yogurt is great as long as it doesnt contain aspartame or saccharin....i dont pretend to know anything but i think i can help people out with the knowledge i have attained over the past few months. weight training+great diet is what ive been doing for a while and its changed my life. Defined muscular body, active and healthy lifestyle! what more could u ask for?!
- oneniner, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1mmmmmm beer...
