- tewstep, on 08/03/2008, -1/+15no reading in bed? C'mon. I can see the help with no TV, but I thought I was onto something with the reading before bed.
- mohsenxp, on 08/03/2008, -0/+9Yea I ignored that bit. Reading in bed is the only way I can actually get to sleep.
- dhughes, on 08/03/2008, -0/+8 I started a new job in 2005 working shift work, my late shift is weekends 6pm to 2:30am, I found it very hard to get used to after nearly 20 years of 9am to 5pm work. In the old days before shift work by midnight I felt tired but not exhausted, if I went to sleep at 11pm or midnight I would wake up before my alarm clock went off at 7:30am, not anymore!
Eventually my body clock shifted and 2am is the new midnight, in the morning I find it very hard to wake up before 10am. I feel numb all the time, never rested but never really tired. My three nights per week at the gym, I used to go in the evenings, stopped because it just never seems like there is convenient time when I feel like it going, most nights I just fall in to bed and don't even brush my teeth.
Interesting diet changes too, at work I use the vending machine quite often since I seem to want junk food. The pop machine, due to local regulations, was now able to use the 591ml plastic pop bottles instead of the old ones that were 355ml, eventually the staff got used to it and people who would never drink an entire 355ml bottle are now drinking a 591ml bottle which is almost two of the old ones.
I can honestly say I'm sure people who don't work shift work, I used to be one of them, have no idea how good they have it. Even a crappy job but 9 to 5 is far better than a moderately better paying job that is shift work. All this from lack of or erratic sleep due to work. - NuclearIsShit, on 08/03/2008, -15/+23One of my favorite pre-sleep pastimes is banging all your moms. All that physical activity sure helps put me right out!
PS. Say hi to all your moms for me
PPS. So hi to all your grandmas for me - skipthefrog, on 08/01/2008, -0/+8You want to know about sleep, check out this guy:

- nuand, on 08/03/2008, -0/+6For anyone interested in the science of sleep, the NYTimes had a full length feature section on it nearly 8 months ago.
- grovest4life, on 08/03/2008, -0/+5If i cant sleep i have to do is open a college business textbook and after one paragraph I'm out. The toughest part is opening it though.
- cran, on 08/03/2008, -3/+8I sleep best with the TV on at a really low volume.
- Holk23, on 08/03/2008, -6/+11Or you could just smoke some cheap weed and you'll be asleep in no time
see a local dealer today! - Anonymerican, on 08/03/2008, -1/+6Stupid article with nothing really to say, no backing up facts, just a few meanderings categorized in 5 parts. We need less sleep as we get older? That's all it says about that, and it's the last sentence of the paragraph...stupid.
- inactive, on 08/03/2008, -8/+12WTF is it with all this sleep related news? It's not hard: get into bed and close your ***** eyes. DONE.
- Shaman760, on 08/03/2008, -0/+3Smoking cheap weed=headache
- SlapAyoda, on 08/03/2008, -0/+3The executive summary for this article seems to be "Stop being such a pussy about your sleeping disorders and get to work."
- jordanlgta, on 08/03/2008, -3/+6 JERRY: (to Kramer) "Thanks for that four a.m. wakeup call last night.
(frustrated) Where the hell is that jacket?"
KRAMER: "Oh, the one with the crest?"
JERRY: "Yeah."
KRAMER: "Oh, well, that's at the cleaners."
JERRY: "The cleaners? How did it get there?"
KRAMER: "Well, I, uh, I borrowed it last night and it got a little dirty."
JERRY: (irritated) "Great."
KRAMER: (laughing to himself) "Somehow I dozed off and woke up in a pile of
garbage."
JERRY: "Somehow? You've had an hour and twenty minutes sleep in three days!"
KRAMER: "Well, so, look, the cleaner said you could pick it up tonight at six."
JERRY: "Alright. I just hope I can get it to the Friars Club before the show."
GEORGE: "Won't be a problem."
(Kramer has closed his eyes and fallen asleep while leaning on the counter in
Jerry's kitchen.)
JERRY: (to Kramer) "Hey."
(Kramer does not respond.)
JERRY: (louder) "Hey!!"
(Kramer snaps awake with a jerk.)
KRAMER: "Watch out, boy!" - nypix, on 08/03/2008, -0/+3I guess you were just looking for -diggs.
How boring, it's putting me to sleep - Holk23, on 08/03/2008, -2/+5Because McCain is the honest president that nation needs...
/s - zadadka, on 08/03/2008, -1/+3Faithless' "I can't get no sleep" popped up on the radio as I was reading...
- aftern9ne, on 08/03/2008, -2/+4The only time I have trouble with sleep is if I stay up too late watching tv or whatever. Then my sleep schedule is ***** up for a week.

- analshank, on 08/03/2008, -1/+3Wow I wish I would've seen this 6 hours ago. My sleeping has been flipped so I decided not to sleep today in a hope to get back to sleeping during the night.
- dekuscrub, on 08/03/2008, -0/+22. We need less sleep as we age
I am 29, and I'm still waiting for this to come true. - akatherder, on 08/03/2008, -1/+3"Refrain from caffeine, heavy or spicy foods, and alcohol and other optional medications that might keep you awake, four to six hours before bed-time."
Alcohol puts me OUT. I'm not talking about binge drinking and passing out. If I have three or four beers, I can't wait to hit the pillow. It's a depressant right. - JakeyG14, on 08/03/2008, -2/+4Having a pre-sleep wank in bed always helps.
- trer, on 08/03/2008, -1/+3Need less sleep as you get older? Seems like during my college years is when I got the least sleep and yet still had the energy to party/write papers all night long. And now in my working years I can't get enough of it and never have energy to do anything after work.
- Requeim, on 08/04/2008, -0/+1"...and alcohol and other optional medications that might keep you awake..."
who said alochol helps keep awake??? well my experience is just the reverse... n m sure most of u all will agree with me.
http://www.healthpoints.info - inactive, on 08/04/2008, -0/+1Going to sleep is easy. Getting up on the other hand, requires me to summon every bit of willpower I have, to force myself out of bed in time for work. Every goddamn morning, it's the same thing.
Some people can just wake up and jump out of bed no problems. ***** it. - beauley, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1Very few of us are aware that our bodies are similar to our backyard pools, in that their PH varies and should be maintained at a certain level to be in an ideal state. Left acidic, they will breed bacteria growth. Kept slightly alkaline, they will be safe for use, given proper filtering. Just an analogy...

Acidosis, are You Acid or Alkaline? - Dundasbro, on 08/03/2008, -3/+4Hrmm... Its 2:24 in the morning, I just finished launching a hedgehog into space on a flash game and writing an essay on Postmodernism in history, I am just about to go to bed and I see this article on Digg on my last minute check of everything. Do I dare read it or should I just sleep?
- psibladeZX, on 08/04/2008, -0/+1Avoid alcohol 4-6 hours before bed??? That would mean if I stay at the bar til 2... I wont go to sleep until 6-8am? are you kidding? besides... alcohol makes me fall asleep... its called passing the ***** out

who the hell claims that alcohol keeps them up at night>? - kaeves, on 08/04/2008, -0/+1While alcohol does help you _get_ to sleep, it will make your sleep less restful.
