- pimpsallad, on 10/12/2007, -10/+46Dugg for the good title.
- johndi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33You learn to use a mouse with your right hand like all the other lefties.
- AdverseEntropy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17I'm a lefty, and I've always used my mouse with my right hand, it's how I've always done it. I also play guitar right-handed.
- mkoko, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Stupid is, as ye who inserts commas unnecessarily
- shikitho, on 10/12/2007, -8/+21Cool idea, bad for gaming though. Think about trying to drag this along to frag. I'd be dead in two secs.
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18Turn it upside down or something. I don't know. Why the hell should we care, ya whiney southpaw bastage?
:p - briguyd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Where are the left and right mouse click buttons? Scroll wheel?
F-- - brandizzle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10So what happens if you're left handed?
- mark1372, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Perhaps he could lend some punctuation and capitalization to the submitter.
- headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"i would still need my mouse with 6 extra macro buttons though"
Read the specs. 6 macro buttons? This thing has like 30. - brandizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I play guitar right handed but I can't seem to use the mouse for more accurate things with my right hand (pretty much anything in Photoshop is out).
- baloniaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4the mouse buttons are labeled, if you click the picture, you are taken to a larger version where you can see it printed onto the edge of the buttons
- krawkula, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Make it lighter in weight, put some good slip pads on it, give away a usb keypad with it and put a 2000 DPI laser on it and ill buy it.
Its a MMO players and spreadsheet workers mouse/keyboard, for you others just stick with the normal. - pauldonnelly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It wouldn't have to touch your desktop any more than a regular mouse. Just like them, it could have little feet. I do think the balance would be a bit off.
For anyone who didn't notice, it has a thumb operated scroll wheel on the other half.
I want to know where the mouse buttons are. I couldn't spot them. - shindig111, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5it looks great though....
this one should definitely go in this list http://technopedia.info/tech/2006/04/27/top-ten-cool-computer-gadgets.html - korteenea, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'm left-handed and I've always used my right hand to use a mouse... I also happen to be a girl who's left-handed (talk about statistical improbabilities!)
- goatfish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hmm... This might not be as bad of an idea as it looks.
But, since I'm not good with the split erogonomic keyboard I don't think this would work for me. - wsewell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wrong. I am frequently annoyed by having to reach all the way to the mouse to do something. I run almost everything with the keyboard, but sometimes you just have to use a mouse.
- krawkula, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5http://digg.com/science/Computer_use_deleted_As_cause_of_Carpal_Tunnel
http://digg.com/science/Carpal_Tunnel_Not_Caused_By_Computer_Usage no idea why they were never dugg up.
O well... either way, it doesnt matter if they are slightly related or not, are you gonna stop using a computer even if you get carpal tunnel? Most people are addicted to pcs and its obvious why. Great games, ever increasing limits, fast news, entertainment... whatever your reason a syndrome probably wont cease your computer use. - thomashallock, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The delete key doubles as the left-click button.... I don't this will work.
- Splizxer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I thought the title read "This is what happens when a mouse and keyboard gets downs", down syndrome.
- chaosmachine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3the scroll wheel is on the left half.
- johndi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Tough break, I come from a family that is 50% left handed. (I bet a geneticist would find that statistical improbability interesting) All of us lefties use a mouse right handed. I don't imagine they'll make a left handed combimouse. Their website has more info. Including where the scroll wheel is placed.
http://www.combimouse.com/index.htm - hisjap2003, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4the bottom of that thing has got to have a lotta surface area touching the mousing surface. along with that, it's gotta be kinda heavy. therefore, i can't see how this could be good for gaming where a minimal amount of friction is optimal for maximum fragging.
- tablespork, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Keyboards usually have rubber feet, designed such that the keyboard will not slide. Mice usually have slippery plastic feet, designed for optimum slide. @jpwhitmore's point is vaild.
- goatfish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Keyboard shortcuts cannot replace the mouse. I agree that the mouse is used too much these days. For example dialog boxes which force you to use a "spinner" to scroll up/down to a number. Just let me type it damn it!
But the mouse is here to stay (for some time to come anyway). So telling people to use keyboard shortcuts only goes so far. - Factionrider, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You could always just add a laptop style touch pad into a keyboard, it could split the space bar in two and stick about halfway down past that.
- diggitydank, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I think that is a decent idea. For spreadsheets and forms it would be great, but I have learned many keyboard shortcuts just so I do not have to go back and forth.
- jpwhitmore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Good idea, but when you are typing on the mouse portion what is stopping it from sliding all around?
- wsewell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There's a switch on the mouse part where your fingers wrap around to "enable" the mouse movement (and the mouse buttons for that matter as they are overloaded keyboard keys).
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Keyboard + Mouse = Works fine for me.
This keyboard/mouse thing won't make typing/clicking any faster or more convenient. - Thurloat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3yeah i was looking for that too.. not all concepts are perfect. it just looks like a movable half a keyboard. i would still need my mouse with 6 extra macro buttons though :)
- zumpiez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3How do you..... y'know... click?
- esourcemag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is pretty funny looking. Could work I suppose...
- Areku, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Seems like it would need a lot of desk space to operate, too. Not good for the chronically-cluttered types (like me).
- KamikazeeDriver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1HAHAHAHAHAHAH I found it funny too.
I gave you a +, but I imagine the -'s were from the women - Badaudio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1looks like your emo almost get off digg
- bigboehmboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1please note the mouse/ computer case fusion (the 2 click buttons and scroll wheel on top)
- Mac2492, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That's a really big mouse...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Drop the mouse for most of your work, learn to work with keyboard shortcuts, and you'll find yourself working faster and with fewer hand movements.
For example, the opera browser has an amazing number of things you can do with the keyboard, including navigation, choosing and 'clicking' links, editing preferences, etc. You can do the same with most common software like ms-word, excel, etc. Email with thunderbird almost never requires the mouse. Editing with emacs is 100% keyboard. Spending that little time getting familiar with keyboard shortcuts more than pays back for itself thanks to your speed increase, and reduction of the possibility of RSI/CTS. - TheFoundry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I'm a lefty, and I've always used my mouse with my right hand, it's how I've always done it. I also play guitar right-handed."
I'm cross-dominate too. I write with my left hand and do practically everything else with my right hand. - d3m3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What's so special about that thing?
- Ashex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When I first looked at it, my reaction was like engadgets, a big "WTF?"
But you know, if you really look at it and think it over, you can see it's uses. Although I use the number pad to excess, and I miss that one a lot of "new age" keyboards. If they were to somehow incorporate it into the design or into a later model, I would totally digg it. - wsewell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@merreborn
I'm not sure we should care about the "proper" way to type unless there's a good reason for it. In this case, the '6' is just plain closer to the left index finger than the right. On my keyboard anyway. - wsewell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Agreed. But sometimes I find myself working really to do something at the keyboard (like find a certain window in the stack) that could be done quickly with the mouse if I wasn't too lazy to reach over and use it :P
- HillelKitty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"it seems to us that a spreadsheet pusher could quickly get used to the setup and learn to rock it."
Except that I use the numeric keypad. I HATE laptops for exactly that reason. If there's no numeric keypad for me to use, I frequently just end up stabbing my fingertips into the table top (or his knee if we're sitting on the couch) OUCH! - IcanFLY, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I spend most of my day on my laptop and usually have a usb mouse attached. It has an awesome keyboard and is an IBM with a trackpoint mouse which requires moving my fingers about 1 cm from where they are to use mouse and if I am using mouse for longer, or need better response, I just use the real mouse. It is also really convenient to use the trackpoint to quickly scroll documents and webpages.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This would be great for certain things. I agree with the Excell/spreadsheet idea. It is just specialized for certain usage, same as a wacom tablet.
- dannycohen62, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that actually sounds like a great idea!
too many times have I been annoyed at having to move my hand almost 5 inches over to the mouse - iamdw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hrmn... i think this has some potential. It would take a bit of time getting used to but...
- Multimedia applications this could be a huge time saver.
- With the weight, serious FPS ehhhhh not so much. But for MM and all turn based games this could be incredible ... i think ( i don't play MM games so i'm not sure) . -
