- monkeymad2, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20Hope it's rain proof, could get dangerous.
- gamabunta, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20Give this to hookers so they can wave "Looking for a good time?"
- willbb123, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18you change it to say "get out of my f$@%ing way!!"
- shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16superal1394 you never tried throwing rocks at those cabs? they usually pull over....(dont know about the ride though)
- superal1394, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15haha, my dad needs one of these, he couldn't flag down a cab for the life of him. It took him 20 minutes. Finally, my bro tells him to stop, waits for a cab to drive by and yells out HEY TAXI!!! Guy imediatley pulled over. ahh the fun of New York City.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9its funny how if someone else submitted this no one would care about it
- Jonny5alive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Isn't the cab driver going to see you waving your arm way before he gets close enough to see what ever your LED jacket says.
And it wouldn't even work if it was sunny.
But then you wouldn't be wearing the jacket if it was sunny anyway..... - godmode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3for hailing cabs you need a WACKY WAVING INFLATABLE ARM FLAILING TUBE MAN
- cakeparty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4how lazy are we now.... we refuse to yell "taxi" because it uses up too much energy?
lol - SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"Yo, Virginity!"
- redneckblues, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/lights/80ee/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2does the speed at which you wave affect it?
- whoutz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8looks like someone typed taxi in arial using photoshop over that guys jacket. its amazing how they can make real photographs looks like they are photoshopped... amazing... but still no digg
- kennyvader, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2probably because your fotosearch link doesn't work so we don't know what you're talking about. it just goes to a generic fotosearch home page.
- dielawn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2and you wont look like an idiot from behind ;)
- alienSkull, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1there is a video..
http://itp.nyu.edu/~tra225/wearables/yoVideo_1.5.mov - bryant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes. Hail a taxi.
All hail the taxi. - mikev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder if there will be a hack available to flag down a prostitute...
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6I don't think people understand that this thing is a concept, and it's obviously not meant to be mass-produced and used by every single person in the universe.
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cute...but the video was convincing that -- this thing can cause accidents.
(Also, many NYC cab drivers probably can't read...so it would be lost on them)
Digg, anyhow, cause KevinRose submited it. It's the LAW, you know! - pentomino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1One word: Jank.
- PRESS_00, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Guess this already exists albeit in wand form. Now, if this were more portable and in cord form, it would be way more interesting.
- JustMatt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@whoutz
What the hell are you talking about. Have you not seen these things before? I mean I've never seen one made into a jacket and to say Taxi, but the LED concept isn't new at all. Unless they were just really ***** lazy and didn't want to take a real picture, there's no reason to photoshop this. Why do people always have to assume anything in still picture is a fake shop. - Olney, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Hey maybe they'll make a sign for us African Americans that tells taxi drivers that I don't need to give you $20 or $30 initially just because you stopped for me & it's late. This crap still happens in Boston & I know other places as well.
- hmniq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Haven't read too deeply in the article, but it probably has an accelerometer (or several) to determine its position, thereby adjusting for different waving speeds (and styles).
- obezyana, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's further down in the article:
"The pockets of the Presence/Absence jacket have a set of snaps sewed into them. These correspond with a set each on the wearer's wallet, keys and phone. On putting your devices into the pockets and snapping them shut the devices are physically connected to the jacket. The jacket has 3 LED%u2019s that stop blinking when these connections are completed. The LED%u2019s move into a panic mode when any of these are absent by indicating with a rapid blink. Every minute or so the circuit does a quick check on all the components and makes sure they are all present and this is viewed when the LED%u2019s dim slowly, reassuring their presence." - Siriquelle, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3wish i could hook this up to my mobile phone!
- PRESS_00, on 10/12/2007, -12/+9"hope the cab comes quick...your arm might get tired..."
In that case, why not put the leds on a wire (more portable) and do circular motions with it (like a lasso).
Now, imagine air traffic controllers (http://www.fotosearch.com/IMG306/01017019/) using these instead of signs which can be misinterpreted...
The concept definitely has some good uses, as long as one has imagination. - cwoolf34, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2yes we all do. ;)
- balsaq, on 10/12/2007, -9/+5Could get annoying when you have an itch on your head, accidentally waving taxis like its noone's business.
- rastan, on 10/12/2007, -17/+13Still won't help the black people get a cab.
Am I right people? What? No? Oh fine, bury me then.
-Proud opposer of lame, unoriginal "White people do this, black people do that" comedians. - willbb123, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4hope the cab comes quick...your arm might get tired...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4i will get some for my hoes who work the streets
- obezyana, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1I like the Presence/Absence Jacket better. Would be useful for making sure my stuff's still in my pocket while I'm riding the bus because I'm too cheap for a taxi.
- PRESS_00, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2"I like the Presence/Absence Jacket "
What's that? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+5What happens when you buy a car?
- PRESS_00, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3Ok, why is my previous comment getting buried? Do some of you have a grudge against me or something?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3looks like a crappy invention made by the kids on the apprentice
- pete10203, on 10/12/2007, -13/+5I see so many applications in the future of that haha.
- Reflux, on 10/12/2007, -17/+7Can I buy one that flags down crackwhores? YO YO CRACKHO!
yes, that was bad. - np18, on 10/12/2007, -13/+3Ordering at a resturaunt just got a whole lot cooler.
- tysonhy, on 10/12/2007, -17/+6That is a great idea! This would be very useful and great for communication.
Good Find! - e33basketball, on 10/12/2007, -19/+1uh
- TheSite2, on 10/12/2007, -33/+11And a long time ago many people have stated how they don't care.
