- PrincessFrosty, on 10/10/2007, -9/+99This game is a port of a console game for the Xbox 360 and as such it's completely retarded to base DX10 performance off of it, anyone with half a brain could have told you this months ago, way before it's release.
My advice is to reserve judgment of DX10 until we see a game built for the PC platform by a more capable development team, such as the Crytek dev's working on Crysis, or Epic working on UT3. - sherlok, on 10/10/2007, -1/+30Because we can tell by first gen titles (and ports) how good the API is. Christ, let it mature people!
- Ramble, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17The fact that you used The Enquirerand Cnet for your sources does nothing for your credibility.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+19DX10 won't shine until Vista gets properly tweaked drivers from both ATI and NVIDIA. Until then, it won't amount to huge gains. Keep in mind that it's not supposed to amount to huge gains in FPS, though, but rather give you much nicer shader effects without a substantial HIT in FPS...which it will.
- jiganto, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16My god, this game is a freaking port. At least wait for dedicated DX10 PC games before reserving judgment. Lets see Bioshock, Hellgate London, and Crysis and then we can conclude something. In fact there are video comparisons of DX9 vs DX10 for those games already out there.
Limiting DX10 to vista may be a lame marketting strategy for Vista. However just because vista sucks, doesn't mean DX10 does. - f4nt0m4s, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15dx10 is still be developed for...much like your beloved xbox360s or PS3s, full utilization will come in time with proper development...so save you breath and don't turn this into some anti-Vista splurge

2. Quote things like a moron.
3. ???
4. Profit! - Ninjab3ar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Thats MINIMUM requirements. Crysis is optomized for DX10, but can be downgraded for use with DX9 so that anyone without Vista or an NVIDIA 8 series chip can actually play it. Moron...
- ats314, on 10/10/2007, -4/+14honestly, when is the first kind of ANYTHING ever that good. PC games are only suffering because software developers are forced to dumb down their games for consoles.
- KungFuJesus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8OR! you could just wait for World In Conflict which comes out in september, which is DX10. In fact, just join the open beta and play it in DX10
- MioTheGreat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Probably not. It's a massive undertaking, DX10 isn't even backwards compatible with DX9, unlike every other DX release. They made some pretty big changes.
MAYBE you could get a layer in there to translate DX10 into DX9, but it'd probably suck, and by the time it didn't suck 'completely', XP usage will have plumetted to single digit percentages, Vista would be at SP2, Windows 7 would already be out, and DX10 replaced by a new version. - FutureGuy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Crysis: DirectX 9 vs. DirectX 10 Comparison Videos
http://www.techdip.com/crysis-directx-9-vs-directx-10-comparison-videos/ - mrASSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10durrr lets conclude that dx10 provides no improvement in graphics by analyzing a game that was produce on a console using dx9. comon, just because the game officially supports dx10, doesn't mean it is truly utilizing it. They didn't develop the game with it, so it makes no sense to showcase it as a model for what we can expect in the future.
- sundancekid503, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8"Elite Bastards" don't like DX10? Wow what a great reference to pull out of your ass.
- Katana314, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Thank you for saving me a comment Frosty...
EVERYONE. WAIT. FOR. CRYSIS. - LMN8R, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Yup, looking at the prospective performance of Unreal Tournament 3, Gears of War, and Crysis on the PC, this definitely seems to be the case of yet another ***** port.
Unreal Tournament 3 and Gears of War PC will no doubt look a hell of a lot better than Lost Planet, yet Epic (and other people) are saying that with a single 8800-series card, a Core 2 Duo, and 2GB of ram, you'll easily be playing those games at 60+ FPS at the highest detail levels and good resolutions too (good, as in higher than 1280x720 720p)
And then, of course, there's the case of immature drivers. I'm pretty sure that it took a while for NVIDIA and ATI to get out decent drivers for DX9 games when they first came out too. - KungFuJesus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6it's Corsair ram
- jawngee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6More fun. Funner is not a word.
- slaystench, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7This game is a disappointment. It's an unoptimized piece of port trash.
- kronix2, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Did OpenGL 2 own the GFX socks off DX9?
- RoboHobo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I think, maybe, that people are burying you because you come across as an *****. At least that's why I did.
- JaYBrooks, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5New versions of DirectX always take a while to be used . Not that the developer is bad. I think it wouldn't be very lucrative to develop a game that works on only the new video cards. I personally don't think that using a closed API is a good thing ever. It forces the developer to use multiple APIs instead of one that works on all systems (OpenGL) But then again who cares.
- Timberwolfl, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Comparing DX10 and DX9 performance is like comparing apples and oranges

Haha, go bury your head in the sand a little deeper. - xaxxon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5perhaps, but it's accurate, so why not?
- estvir, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Why/How?
- Almadiel, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Why should anyone take it to be representative of directx 10 when it is only a port of an old console game? It wasn't made for directx 10, it was patched so they could have another bullet point on the back of the box. When did anyone ever claim that new the new technology would be utilized fully by the first games out of the gate?

- PueSi, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7If you look at it from a technical point of view DX10 is clearly better, more efficient or whatever.
Is it really needed? I don't know but progress is always a good thing. Everybody is eventually going to switch to Vista (you're fooling yourself if you think this is "the year of the mac/linux") so i don't see the problem. - chazuk, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Funner?
I remember when everyone had new spangley Geforce 3's and all they could run was.... erm....
3Dmark2001?
What about when the 9700pro was released. We then had..... erm...
3DMark 2003!
The games will come..... Eventually. - geoken, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Not just any port. Lost Planet is a super ***** port. There are pop-ups that tell you to press buttons which are accompanied by images of the specified button on a 360 controller. The demo wasn't even able to scale itself to non widescreen resolutions, I had to manually edit a config file to keep it from crashing at 1280x1024.
- fusinfun, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Its computer speak for 2 x 1gigabyte sticks of DDR2 memory running at 1111mhz with timings of 4-4-4-12 1T. And if you dont understand that, google it.
- kronix2, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Almost all developers aren't devoting significant resources to DX10 game development because:
1) Vista has a 5% market share.
2) DX10 cards make up a very small percentage of the user base, probably 5% again.
It doesn't make sense to focus on DX10 development when only 5% of gamers are able to run a game under D3D 10. That's why Lost Planet, Call of Juarez etc. are simply DX9 games patched to make use of DX10. - KungFuJesus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4You don't even have to wait to see a game that looks UNBELIEVABLE in dx10
World In Conflict in DX10 looks amazing, and the beta is going now ( at least i think it's still going)
pop that ***** in and play - mrASSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6did you just quote mark from Epic?
- rarson, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4"It's not even a port...it just looks like they recompiled it and slapped a Games for Windows logo on the cover."
Welcome to gaming. That's how ports work. - Kwipper, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Lost planet is NOT a good example of DX10 capabilities.
Crysis IS a good example of DX10 capabilities.
Now I fully understand why HardOCP would do a test like this, because simply it's the only DX10 game out at this time. - estvir, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4> .. trolls ..
You keep saying this but I don't think you know what it means. The definition of a troll would be, well, YOU, and if you're going to attempt to insult people at least do it somewhat correctly so use 'fanboy' instead of 'troll.'
You really aren't too bright, are you? :o - consonance, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5The Inquirer is the British tabloid rag of the technology world.
- sjbdallas, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4As long as I'd have to play a FPS with one of those stupid controllers intead of a keyboard, I won't be switching to a console.
- Jumangi, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7More clueless links dugg up by clueless people.
Lost planet is not a DX10 game, its a DX9 game with the patch added on. There has not been a single real DX10 title released yet.
Go back under your rocks Vista/MS haters. - estvir, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6> .. what's the point when there is no games for it?
That and the rest of your thought logic is, well, retarded. All of you kids moaning about how disappointing DX10 is, there's no reason to get it, etc, are just being plain stupid, ignorant and COMPLETELY IGNORING THE REAL WORLD AND HISTORY.
What did you expect:
a) DX10 cards to magically be cheap straight away? - You do realise all new tech starts off expensive.
b) Everyone to adopt DX10 cards straight away? - Not everyone knows how to upgrade their computer and a lot of the average CS/BF2/WoW players who make up a large amount will get one when Dell starts selling them in more PCs.
c) Every company to magically make DX10 games and have them out the door straight away? - Once again, just ignoring how the real world works.
The bottom line is, the peopel who write articles like this and those who Digg it are simply doing so because it's "LOL M$ IS BAD HAH THEY FA1L" and want to start cool on the internet.
Yes, I could be more tactful but why should I bother when some of you insist on being so stupid? Oh, and about actual Lost Planet, it's a port with DX10 tacked on as a selling point, kind of like CoH and some others. This is the beginning of DX10, and Crysis is also only the beginning but probably the first 'big' DX10 game. - Stevethegreat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Games are too rοugh and artificially looking to interest the 90% of the public. If you want them to attain the social status of movies you have to DEMAND photorealistic graphics, the first great thing to come for games would be NOT to be directed JUST for hardcore gamers.
Too bad that consoles will delay this breaking to the mainstream for at least about a decade or so. This -exactly- is the problem of the form of expression named videogames to be born as an industry. The industry still controls it and hinders its development for cheap profit, which would mean nothing in one or two decades from now (in opposition to the actual development of gaming to a mature medium rather than child's play as it primarily is today)...... - kronix2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"XMS2 Dominator" is the brand name.
"CM2X1024-8888C4D" is the product code.
"4-4-4-12 1T" are the memory timings.
It's geek code for very fast, expensive RAM often used when reviewing games. - LMN8R, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Why bother replying to my post if you're not going to read it first? As I already said in my original post, Gears of War and Unreal Tournament 3 are looking to perform a ***** better than Lost Planet and still look better to.
- frgmstr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2We were talking about the graphics features rather than the gameplay. We will leave game reviews for the pros. :)
- FutureGuy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2and you do right, u need to clarify that because from reading what you said, I think you are kind of lost.
- LMN8R, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I think the WiC beta just ended :-( It was a lot of fun though, and I'll probably be getting it.
