OK, so there is less competition, higher prices, and more cookie-cutter garbage games. Great. Competition is bad, right? Lets hope Linux dies tomorrow, and that Firefox and Open Office fade quickly so Microsoft can stop worrying about competition on their software side of their business.

The grea... what? How does Duke Nukem Forever look on it? Oh yea, it isn't out yet. And neither is the PS3. How is Duke Nukem Forever anyway? Has it been worth the wait? Is it worth what they are charging for it? Oh, you don't know?

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. - Digital.Totem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is a feature not a bug.
- Ryland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm wondering if it's a problem with ventilation rather than a software bug... those things put out a lot more heat than previous consoles, especially with the new GPU chips. That didn't look like a software crash to me, for some reason.
- neosublime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Choices:
Microsoft XboX 360 ---> Company know for buggy software
Sony PS3 ---> Company now know for invasion of privacy
Nintendo ---> Who?
I give up on playing games. Guess I'll just work instead. - kodek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's okay, Microsoft will release a critical patch in about a month, and that'll fix that problem....and will add another one! But don't worry, they'll release the xbox 360 Service Pack 1 with Advanced Memory Management and Free Hotdogs, and that'll fix that other problem.
- spade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What doesn't crash? Good god, you have low expectations for your hardware.
- stealthboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Even for everyone who says "well mine didn't crash" ... do you still trust it? When you're playing now don't you wonder if that crash is just around the corner? Must suck... even if you think you have a "good" xbox 360, you can't feel comfortable playing knowing your progress may by wiped out by a crash.
Viva la Microsoft! - CatfishJones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I just heard of a woman whose x-360 crashed and burned(really), and burned down(or up), the place. They hauled her out of their with the controller still in her hand...... talk about dazed and confused....hehehe
Cyborg"
If that was in today's news, it was actually an original Xbox. Not only that, it was a pre-October 2003 Xbox for which Microsoft issued a recall program to replace the power cord. The same power cord that started the fire. - Betaguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm I the only one who thinks that crash looks kinda fishy? It's not like any crash I've ever seen. There was no sudden lag, no type of error screen, just some static and the screen freezes.
Just my two cents. - joshthejest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that.... sucks.... I am glad I decided to wait and see what the ps3 has to offer.
- breakfree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yea... that story about the Xbox fire was about the old power cords that were recalled for the original console.
- tdyer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah, but atleast i will be able to use my friends games...
yeah, but atleast i wont have crazy drm and rootkits on my gaming system. - technel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would not doubt it if they did something to make it crash. From video:
"It crashed already?" (Interpretation: WOW, poking that paperclip in the processor really did shut it down fast ((see above)))
"Did you get it on tape?" (Interpretation: I can't afford to waste another $400 ((or whatever it is without the HD)) to get a another 360 to get some attention on the interweb)
That said, I wouldn't doubt that it is possible for the Xbox 360 to crash. In fact, what DOESN'T crash?
This is news..? - stealthboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"its hard to think of any recent console system that didnt have problems with its first shipment"
My first-shipment Gamecube still works like a charm! And so does my first-shipment DS, N64, and SNES. See a trend? ;-) - Noah0504, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I hope the XBox 360 fails!"

Wow, I guess it's not safe to joke anymore.
Oh, and I know the PS3 isn't out yet. That's why I said everyone will regret not WAITING for it. (I was also just kidding, so don't have a cow.) - your_mom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0everyone who bought a first gen one will be screwed when they recall these and have to make a new batch, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
- da_bradler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0looked like a nasty type of crash I'd be a little scared if that were me, exactly what my mac did before the logic board blew, lol
- antiTRACE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0my 360 just updated itself.. so maybe that was the patch? haven't had a problem with it (yet) - going on 20 some hours of play.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It looks like this crash is only mainly happening with PGR3, it may not be MS's problem. But, I have seen crashes at boot, also
- AntiInsight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0never buy a console at release, its hard to think of any recent console system that didnt have problems with its first shipment, xbox 360 does, xbox did, ps2 did. and so will the ps3. but buy the time ps3 is out xbox 360 will at least have most of all its problems fixed and worked out.
- KungFuHippy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the only game console that uses cd's or dvd'd that hasn't crashed on me is the gamecube. everyone should be getting use to this stuff now.
- PrezKennedy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Xbox 360 crashes, more at 11 with comments from the President."
- idesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the PS2 first gens weren't bad. I have one and it still works fine. I just had to take it apart a couple times to clean off the lens.
I'm sure this will all blow over, BUT... it's Microsoft so I hope it doesn't. - stealthboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://forum.teamxbox.com/showthread.php?t=391764
Take a read through those posts... those are xbox fanboys, and even they are reporting lots of crashes. Seems there are combinations of heat and OS problems. The crashes are definitely real. It really must suck to wait that long and spend that much money... - gorac369, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0see kids this is why you dont bash on sony and the playstation line. lol. and take the advice of elpayo "Never buy first generation."
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm buying one of these muthas as soon as I can get my dirty little paws on one. I'll let the 1337 loozers pilfer until after Christmas, then I pick one up. Of course, I'll buy the 'big box salesman's' guarantee and take it back in 6 months after I blow it to smithereens.
- LeadHead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nope, my perdect dark has crashed. I would think it's the developers faults for not taking their time and microsofts fault for creating a console so hard to program.
- nymphetamine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol. good stuff.
- OOTay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks Micro$oft for the QUALITY PRODUCTS!
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"That didn't take long." LMFAO
- shiftless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Everyone is so weird about this. Of course the first batch is going to have problems. Once they couldn't make enough for the holidays I knew there were going to be issues like this. This way only the hardcore xbox fans that wait in line for 30 hours will get them and they're more likely to forgive Microsoft if they have to replace their unit.
Kind of clever in a way. You get your most loyal fans to beta test it for you and they give you money for it! - wallryan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0even though the 360 doesnt interest me at all, im not sure how legit that video was...
- DEIx15x8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have an Xbox launch console with no problems and those were known to have bad DVD drives and HDDs that were changed in latter batches. Now i have the 360 and it will be the same way, some will have problems and all latter ones will be fixed based on that. I think the main problem is ventilation, the error looks like a heating issue and similar to the ones that stores were having. If you keep them all enclosed like the stores did of course it will overheat, it must breath and be in open space, that's why my consoles always go on a wire rack to give it plenty of breathing room and gets it off of the floor where carpet or another thing could block ventilation on the bottom.
- battlefield1985, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0BSOD is awesome, I think its only on the Premium Bundle.
- Raian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Microsoft sucks-- they rushed it to development and weren't even able to get a blue screen of death in there-- ***** TAKE time and add the BSOD! *****.
- wahooka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0fake videos.... wtf why is this site so anti-microsoft???
so annoying... what are 90% of you running? windows xp?
yeah i thought so... stfu - UKeTommyV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol the dude even said "did you taped it" like if it happened several times before lol , you see now, how microsoft rushed the release of this sh!t , totally expected , good job MS. next-gen? hahahaha.
- legomaniac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Microsoft did it again. Even if that is just an isolated issue, it shouldn't happen on a brand new system, that is just pathetic.
I also liked that one article that came out of E3, showing how Microsoft was running the xbox 360 demo kiosks on Mac G4s - drn666, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I came from /. to get away from idiots, not to immerse myself in them."
Than you have come to wrong place. /., horrifyingly enough, was 10 times more mature than Digg. - wilsonics, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Microsoft was never good at programming for the PPC platform. Figures that they would release an incomplete/untested product.
- stealthboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"im not sure how legit that video was..."
There was another link in an earlier Digg story with a gallery of XBox 360 crash screenshots. They all looked like the crashed screen in the video, so I think it's completely legit. - Niao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0>>I also liked that one article that came out of E3, showing how Microsoft was running the xbox 360 demo kiosks on Mac G4s
I give it like 3 months into it before the software is hacked and OS X is either running on the 360 or 360 games run on the mac.
They're OpenGL, right? - elpayo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Never buy first generation.
- Niao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0>>lolol! Console X > Console Y!!1
You know, some of us have these things called "full time jobs" where instead of flipping burgers and patroling the couch, we spend our days doing stuff that's useful and fun.
Yes. There is fun beyond playing or whining about who has the bigger rattle.
Noone needs more console fanboy comments. I came from /. to get away from idiots, not to immerse myself in them. - drn666, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I also liked that one article that came out of E3, showing how Microsoft was running the xbox 360 demo kiosks on Mac G4s"
They were actually Dual G5's with custom video cards. - burnerx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0PS3 > xbox 360
PS2 rules all other consoles - neosublime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"M$ doesn't own me anymore. I am now property of Apple Computers, Inc."
neosublime is Steve Jobs' ass buddy.

Good products from good companies that actually know what quality control is. Go back under your rock, MS fanboy. -
