- nmaster64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6You don't need a wrapper. If you can minimize it you can task tray it.
Power Menu is your friend. I love it. It let's you task tray any application as well as change it's trasparency and enable "Always on Top". I've got it to boot upon Windows load on all my computers. It's invaluable.
http://www.veridicus.com/tummy/programming/powermenu/ - SparQy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5... or you could just use PowerMenu to minimize the window (or any other window for that matter) to the notification area.
http://www.veridicus.com/tummy/programming/powermenu/ - javaru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i just wish there were global hotkeys like in winamp so i wouldnt have to open up the window to rate songs/change stations
- phuchead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3well, pandora is legal, so it is not a matter of hating it or not, the RIAA has to just sit back and take it. the biggest thing with pandora is the license that they have and have to pay for, that is the reason there are lack of features, like skip limits and picking your next song. the just HAVE to do it, or they could not do it legally! but, they are very very willing to listen to suggestions, i have sent in quite a few and have always been contacted back about them. i listen to pandora all day at work and, when i AM home, at home too. i listen so much i subscribed to there service so i knew they would be making some money off of me, it is only $36/year, and i must have used that much bandwidth by now.... and i was not going to buy anything they were selling, so i put money directly in there pockets instead of sitting there and clicking ads. i love this app, i am going to go home and install it on my laptop, too. i was wanting pandora to come up with this same thing.
-phuc - Phusion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hey man, great, app, I'm using it right now. I solved the little "there's a web browser open" problem by listening to a few songs and then nabbing them out of my %TEMP% folder and renaming them to mp3 hehe. Thank you very much!
- electrichead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Does it still use up 100M? That's the only reason I don't use it that much. Still, this got my digg.
- Rawksteadi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3just installed it. works great! Taking up 52MB of Ram, whihc is less than iTunes at 57MB.
- mickeyt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4You could use Trayit! (http://www.faratasystems.com/trayit/trayit.htm) and all problems solved!
- r121, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just throw the window onto another desktop/workspace, works for me! :-)
- helix400, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Argh, Pandora is getting more and more cool features and third party support. But it's still missing the only thing that keeps me on Yahoo Launchcast. I highly prefer rating songs on scale rather than "thumbs up" or "thumbs down". The moment they do that, I'm moving on over...and buying that Wifi radio player too.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2DUGG, beats having a browser constantly open.
- dmackey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think you have missed the point of the Pandora's Box app. People don't necessarily want to go messing around creating plug-ins for apps that act as a "catch all" fix. Pandora's Box is aimed at one task and that is Pandora. Nice link though and may be handy for some things but does not, unfortunately, ultimately contain all the features for Pandora that we set out to add.
- dmackey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hi All,
Thank you for your comments and suggestions for Pandoras Box. I have been working on the new version and the features will include:
1) Control Pandora from the sysTray menu
2) Send current song info to Messenger
3) Post song to Last.fm
4) Some more suprises :-)
Keep an eye on http://personal.cfdan.com for updated news on the app.
Dan. - conedude13, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I actually stopped using the Pandora site and moved on to the real-ity version of it. It combines the music libraries from Pandora AND last-fm. This does take up one of my tabs, however, but i just use the tab mix plus firefox extension and keep it locked and protected so i don't accidentally close it or open up a new page in that tab. Give it a check out, like i said, it combines the two music libraries so you'll have that much more tunes to get exposed to.
http://pandorafm.real-ity.com/index.php?mustloginfirst=1 - r121, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not too much, I think. It just downloads an mp3 for every song you listen to.
- kerv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2does anyone know how much bandwidth Pandora uses approx? I'm going to see if I can get away running it at work for an extended period of time ;)
- saumanahaii, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I am a fan of the algorithm Pandora uses. To me, it has more merit than the hivemind approach of Last.FM. My tastes, sadly, did not coincide with other users. Last.FM isn't bad, it just doesn't work for me.
- petroK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was just needing this exact application this weekend. Thanks.
I wonder why Pandora hasn't released something itself - dmackey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If this gets digged (dug?) enough, maybe it will prompt them to develop something. They could keep their advertising but in a more user friendly manner...i have some ideas on this...
- dmilner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You could also use Bubbles. It lets you put any web page in the tray.
http://www.3d3r.com/bubbles - Slashriffs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just downloaded pyrrha, but where do the songs go to?
- ReRunx5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1there is a Last.fm Firefox extension that submit tracks directly to last.fm
also supports FoxyTunes
http://code.yerblog.com/lastfm/ - zatrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this took one hour?
- Livewire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1a widget would be nice.
- roc69x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Awsome, pandora has the most intuative layout and great recommendations. Last.fm was good but did not let you edit your last stations. This makes it even sweeter to use, thanks Dan.
- Slashriffs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1But do you always have to right click and say minimize to tray or does it do it all the time for that window?
- stevetures, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, works great! (might be nice to have a 'auto-run' checkbox, opt-in of course, in the setup. No big deal though.
I wonder if the RIAA automatically hates Pandora, if they see the novelty of a good recommendation system? - TimofSuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Pandora fanatics please share your stations at
http://pandorastations.cripsynews.com
Thanks. - stevetures, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I second that. Some of us work with offices and coworkers that like to enter without knocking ;-).
- n8r0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nice. I had never heard of it, will give it a go when I get home.
- TheG2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is great, well done to the developer.
- Drewdah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2THANK YOU!! You read my mind. I've got this thing up and running and it's working great. Got my digg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Perfect... I was using this other app to keep it on the taskbar...
trayit:
http://lifehacker.com/software/downloads/download-of-the-day-trayit-123148.php
but this is nice. - Vektuz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Teehee. I've been using an app I made like this for months. A few folks on some forums have been using it too. Web browser control + dialog box + tray icon = perfect.
- webcrumb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How much Pandora uses? Or how much you use when you download music from them?
I can't answer the first (probably a hell of a lot, like TB). As for the second, most of their music is encoded at 128Kbps. So, work it out. 16KBps an hour is about 57MB, so an eight-hour day is 450MB. - mustafap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Pandora? Never heard of it. Just checked it out. F**king great! Thanks for the link.
Now enjoying some old Joy Division. :o) - kenton5150, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good program. Just 1 problem. Every time I go to a new track an "Object Expected" box pops up. Anything that can be done to stop this?
- irieKEN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Mickeyt: Powermenu is another nice utility for traying other apps or making windows stay on top of all others. Does some other useful things, and I never use a Windows box without it. http://www.veridicus.com/tummy/programming/powermenu/
- r121, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe try decompiling the flash? I don't know how well this works, but you might at least be able to get the SSL key out of it.
- surfdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1DIGG!!! What a great little app.
- pyrcast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Or you could always just use Pyrrha to download pandora stations for listening offline.
http://pyrcast.com - Vektuz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Shhhhh dont tell them
- Nitron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is that possible? o_0
Any idea where one might get started with that? - MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ahh, not more crappy pandora ads.
- crawfishsoul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I use Powermenu on all my systems too, however I just noticed something. I was wondering if anyone else had the same issue; using powermenu to minimize an IE6 window to tray, the IE window kills itself immediately. I don't have this issue with Firefox or any other app.
BTW, this thread seems to have any posting of an alternative to webtech's submission dugg down. I've seen other threads where Powermenu get's recommended and the posts are modded way up. Kind of wondering just how spammy this article submission is. - sweef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There is another app called OPEN PANDORA. It has minimize to tray, but it also shows song and artist name in the title bar and in the tray icon tooltip, and it sends played song details to Microsoft Messenger.
Try it: http://openpandora.googlepages.com/ - dmackey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hi All,
Thank you for all your Diggs and all your comments. I have updated the application and you can download and read about it here:
http://www.cfdan.com/?blogPostId=92 - ejd3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this power menu app people keep mentioning might be cool, but it has nowhere near the functionallity specific to pandora built into it compared to this pandora box application. with just a right click on the tray icon you can do most of the functions without even seeing the window.
- meshiling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great job on Pandora's Box. It works wonderfully for me.
- saumanahaii, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Pandora's Jar works well too. http://www.hak5.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=828&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=720
It renames and tags all the music according to the song. Oh yeah, doesn't work with flash 9. Just fyi.
Good wrapper app. I see no problem having it on the bar. And if I do, I just send it to another xoblite desktop. Still, good for those with the windows standard GUI. -
