- schneb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10So says someone who cannot capitalize the beginning nor set a period at the end of a complete sentence?
- schneb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Didn't say it was a bad article. Just a bad picture. As an illustrator, you need to be clear in your art.
- livesNbox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Read the article.. it says it's 1.0x0.8mm
EDIT: beat me to it... - flipjargendy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It tells you in the article, almost at the end.
- Salgat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Its called a sample for a reason. Sheesh.
- IphtashuFitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3As a theater lighting designer I'll be impressed when they can produce a pure white LED that puts out the same amount of light as a 1000 watt halogen bulb (10,000+ lumens). That'll be a revolutionary step as far as entertainment lighting is concerned. It'll cut the amout of electricity used by theaters, concert halls, etc. by 90% or more, not just by reducing the energy needs of the lighting but also cutting back on cooling/ventilation since LED's won't generate the heat that stage fixtures currently generate.
- Crustibooga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Anyone know where I can buy a picosoldering iron and powerful magnifying glass, I feel an electronics project coming on! ;o)
- rowlodge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2where's the lightbulbs that last forever?.....neon lightbulbs suck, we need LED lightbulbs, it's a conspiracy.
- newanon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2duplicate. orignal was submitted about 4 hours earlier
- maninblac1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Optimus keyboard anyone?
(yes i know the optimus uses OLED, but this could do) - cbergeron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The iPod nano uses OLED.
- dasilva333, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3i thought SMDs already existed... that looks like a regular smd to me
- inmatarian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Please tell me that these won't end up in car headlights. Those things are so intense at it is that they blind me.
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Especially those HIDs on european cars (VWs, BMWs, etc.). God forbid you should be approaching one of those on a dark roadway.
- AlanLivingston, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's $0.82 QTY 1. I'm sure in reels at quantity it'll be a bit cheaper per unit.

They're russian, give them a break, they have problems getting stuff out, if you were just one guy in russia, how hard would it be to start a huge production like that and keep the device at a price people are willing to pay.
Give em a break. It'll be released late this year at the earliest. - BigSlacker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Clueless article. Those tiny surface mount LEDs are not about creating a light source. They're about getting device indicators in a smaller amount of space. We need bigger, more powerful LEDs that cost less to make in order to be an economic light source that could replace fluorescent as the low energy choice.

Wow, 82ยข each. I hope the big companies can afford that. Also, nice to see that the Yen is doing so well. - mgkwho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://digg.com/tech_news/World_s_smallest_led_revealed_the_pico_led

I think it must have hit a roadblock or something. I've been keeping an eye on OLED devices for some time, and the technology doesn't really appear to be widely adopted. Which is a shame, because the displays are generally really easy on the eyes. It's gaining a pretty big foothold in the flash-based mp3 player. Example: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2512410&cp - AHippie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Light emitting diode light?
- Topher06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Optimus vaporware keyboard? Nice concept, where is it? For that matter, what the hell has happend with OLED? It was supposed to replace LCD and Plasma by now.
- BigSlacker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0You can do 10,000 lumen right now with LEDs. You'll just need about 1,000 of them and pony up $8,000 to buy them. Really LED lamps is only practical for low level lighting. There's already more efficient and a whole lot cheaper choices for high level applications . Sodium vapor lamps like you see in street lights beats LEDs for lumens verse power.
- TomFrost, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2"The company aim to create 10 million of the tiny 1.0 x 0.8mm diodes every single month."
Answer's in the article :)
Edit: Also beaten.. I should learn to refresh before commenting. - mgkwho, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Is it smaller than the iPod piceno?
-=|Mgkwho - RobbieF, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I wonder if they've done Red, Green and Blue yet, or just Red? Imagine the possibilities once they do have all three colored LEDs!
- PsypherX, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3WTF is Schneb getting dugg down? Most people in today's fast-paced age of the Internet look for quick and efficient ways to do things, and pictures, photos, and illustrations play a huge role in the fast dissemination of information. As such, they should sufficiently and succinctly sum up the general basis of the article, or lend it support. That being said, the illustration DOES suck, as it's confusing. Besides, he mentioned he understood it was the latter, had you RTFC.
Jesus Christ. - danobrien23, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1he obviously can't read, only can focus on the picture
- Joshua1211r, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Good. Now wheres my 300PPI LCD? XD
- beckerist, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0It says right in the article: "1.0 x 0.8mm"
is it really that hard??? Man what lengths some people will go to just to bitch. - schneb, on 10/12/2007, -15/+4Bad picture. Is that ruler an inch? centimeter? millimeter? I gather it is the latter--but still.
What is Digg?
