- teamparadox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22sweet, let me tell you what I could do with this pc, to hell with my current above average rig...
I could rip a DVD in 3 weeks
I could play 2 frames of doom 3 per day
I could send an email tomorrow...if I start typing soon
In 2.5 years I could download and install every patch for XP which would increase my boot time by a week!
I could do a google search, drive to the library and look up my search, drive home, go to work the next day, come home and take a nap before my results are returned and displayed!
Having a computer that fast would remind me of the glory days of aol 1.0 when loading a page of text took 2 hours! God please make this computer available on newegg for I hath found Jesus!!!! - synthesist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9lol site's down, guess he must have been hosting it off of that 20mHz computer
- forgiste, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I also installed MS-DOS on my robosapien v2.
Next I'm going to try and install Slackware Linux on a 17" CRT Monitor. - forgiste, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I installed windows NT 3.11 on an alarm clock.
- psymaster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It means "This operational readiness level is not available unfortunately."
- crbaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A 386 is a 32-bit processor just for the record.
- Mouche, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hahaha... that's hilarious. I can't imagine trying to do anything with something that slow let alone put XP on it...
- kungPow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And it only took him 8 years to install XP.
- brucebeh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1MIRROR IS UP, THIS WON'T GO DOWN..

Ah, i wish you can change links on digg posted articles!
!!! MIRROR !!! - bigp169, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Diese Präsenz ist leider nicht verfügbar...lol digg effecet in german..lol
- digitalsin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just goes to show you Linux isn't the only OS you can put on a minimal setup! (yes I know that linux can operate on even less, but w/o a decent UI)
- tempusrob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Quoth nature: "Call me when you get it running on a 386, and not on a down-clocked Pentium"
You couldn't if you wanted to ... 386 is a 16-bit processor. - jdong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Heh, I was under the impression that:
(1) Windows XP needs P3 instruction sets to function properly
(2) Windows XP's kernel has a 20+MB footprint, and remaining services use at least 16MB of active RAM at any given time. Wow, think of the thrashing.... - Craig1394, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"This operational readiness level is not available unfortunately".
I think that means the site got *****.
As for why anyone would do this, because it is funny. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the point is not that it's useful, the point is that it is possible... half the stuff on digg isn't useful per-se (filling your pc case with vegetable oil, booting OSX on a PSP, etc...) but that doesn't mean it's not interesting or cool...
- chiklit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now try that with Vista :P
- oldcyborg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Do the words "safe mode" mean anything to you???
hehehehehehehe

digg e f f e c t . - NervousDuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just because its XP doesn't mean it won't run on a slower processor. Embedded XP terminals can be slow, but the install of XP optimized to fit the need. I remember running hundreds of workstations from 33 to 66 MHz 486s running 98se and Office 2000 with 32 MB of ram for a school district and they were solid workstations. The slowest workstation I installed XP on is an IBM laptop running at 233 MHz and 96MB of ram. It works great as a media player connected to a stereo with a USB connection to act as a large set of USB speakers, complete with track info on the display and remote control functionality. I say, power to the people who do amazing things with technology. Anything unexpected is welcome.

I'm guessing it means. "OMG DIGG EFFECT" - hotwaterham, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I guess it is worthwhile. It's a preview of how Vista will perform on today's average machine. "
Vista runs better than XP on my old Athlon XP 1800+ box with 512MB ram and a 32MB on-board GeForce2. In fact, it runs about as well as Fedora Core 4 does. - xelloss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The lowest system that I could find, was a 233 Mhz compaq. With 64 Mbs of ram, took awhile to load up, but ran fine with surfing the internet, died with videos.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Microsoft will use this story as proof that their "operating systems" work on legacy hardware!
- Browncoat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think a customer of mine had this same machine...I recommended an upgrade
- designbydave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0who has that kinda hardware still around?
- buck09, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've installed XP on a lot of slow hardware. It takes a little effort to shut off unnecessary services and the like, but in the end, it can make for a decent single-app-at-a-time computer system.
I'm a big linux fan, but after getting XP to run nicely on ancient hardware, I had a little more respect for the XP development folks... - CadMasterAdam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WOW
- edenlover, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^^^^
rtfa they did put 64mb to bypass MINIMIM install, then wiped it after - jpyun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"For this reason you had to have patience, very often. Do you recognize ever the changing of the blue color on the
screen before the "Welcome"-page?? You can see all 8 blues line by line with 20 MHz???"
That sounds really great. - brucebeh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0LINK IS FINALLY BACK UP!
Those of you that didn't believe this, look at it now ;) - edenlover, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0and i thought the same thing
- edenlover, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great!!! Now I can just upgrade my P133/16MB Compaq from NT 4.0 to XP!
- oyourmom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i just got a idea, LINUX ON A WATCH! oh that would be so super sexy. you could be like, "check out my watch, yeah thats right, im hosting a website on it as we speak. crap two people, h/o i need to reboot." o yeah!
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Diese Präsenz ist leider nicht verfügbar."
Which roughly translate to:
"This operational readiness level is not available unfortunately." - davidleeroth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i have a 1ghz 128Mb machine i sometimes boot linux with.... its pretty good, even under gnome or kde.
- ihate2regist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i thought 75mhz was pushing it
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ive got 57 instances of PuppyLinux running in a 6GB virtual drive - all neatly and safely partitioned.
- superspak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0well you can get xp on there but you cant do crap on it
- fino35, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool, now a use for my 75Mhz Gateway2000 monster.
I call him "Lurch". - fyre2012, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes, but does it run Linux?
better yet... does it run OSX? - yotta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Reminds me of the time I loaded Windows 95 on a 286 machine. It only installed because the previously installed Windows 3.1 had EGA drivers. Graphics were painfully slow but it was an education.
- hotwaterham, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"eh... windows people... ever consider this is why your OS sucks? BEcause you still support 15 year old hardware, even unoffically?"
Where does Linux fit into this equation? - atrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Im planing to get OSX86 on a Tosiba 200CDT (Think its 75-133Mhz, 16Mb ram, 800Mb Harddrive)...
Only issue is emulating a new cpu (Need an emulator that will do x86, with sse2 or higher...)
Gonna try vista on my other laptop (P2-300Mhz, it can boot from cd's :D) And maybe OSX86 if i cant get it onto the other comp... - devmaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0well i thought my 1.6 P4 ran XP as slow as sin, but i quess the germans are always trying to take the prize.... this reminds me of 1938...and im poland
- orangetiki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does anyone else notice all the fuzz around the letters? I took the photos into photoshop, and saw a lot of fuzz, and the letters wern't centered on it. which makes me believe all the letters were faked. There shouldn't be that much anti-alias around the letters anyway. Even with a computerized screenshot, and not a photograph. Just a thought.
- hiro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Fantastic, I'm going to dig out some of my old stuff when I get a chance and have a go at this

hardran3, I don't have to prove it. If you don't want to believe me that's totally fine, but I'm not lying nor do I have any reason to lie. -
