- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+30I can see it now:
Customer - "The computer memory won't upgrade."
Walmart - "What was the problem?"
Customer - "I put it inside the CDROM drive and didn't get any more hard drive space."
Walmart - "Alrighty then. - rewritable, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Yeah but I like how walmart still charges like $150 for a 9200se PCI graphics card. not even AGP WTF???!!!!!
- solidblu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19 I don't know how much i would trust everything but if you need that extra sata cable at 4:30 in the morning, don't want to wait 2 days to get it shipped over night...
- lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19I am a self hating walmart shopper.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Benlevon you are a total hack, you got pwnd. Your posts are plagiarized right off slashdot.
http://hardware.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=184818&cid=15258190 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19You should use the preceding terms whenever you have to "interface" with computer experts. For example, if you're purchasing a new computer, you want to use as many of these terms as possible, so that store personnel will realize that they're dealing with a person who has a high level of technical expertise:
STORE PERSONNEL: May I help you?
YOU: I'm looking for a "hard drive" with plenty of "RAM" in the "megahertz."
STORE PERSONNEL: You want the computer store next door. This is a supermarket.
YOU: Let me see your "zucchini."
-Dave Barry In Cyberspace - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Another post benlevon plagiarized from slashdot.
Why don't you post the responses too you ghey retard. WTF are you, the Best of Slashdot?
http://hardware.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=184818&cid=15257920 - ryware, on 07/04/2008, -2/+16I don't enjoy shopping at Wal-Mart, but this will be very convenient.
- tallgreen, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18Sweet! I don't love walmart or anything, but since moving out into the middle of nowhere, Walmart has become way cooler. Walmart makes it really easy to live cheap. They have F'n everything, even organic produce! I pretty much buy everything from there so I'm there at least once a week. It's that or drive another 20 minutes to the mall that has a BestBuy, Target, HomeDepot where everything costs more. If their computer parts selection is at least as good as BestBuy's (which is crap), this is a very good thing for rural communities, especially the occasional rural IT geek like me.

Why are your posts direct ripofffs of what people posted on slashdot before you?

WTF is wrong with you? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14benlevon@ Why are you plagiarizing slashdot posters?
***** loser.
http://hardware.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=184818&cid=15257919 - Nukem945, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Well, late night is the best time to work on a DIY system. It will be more of a convenience than anything else though. I just can't see Walmart becoming a one-stop component shop.
- puffarthur, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11tru dat, best buy blows. newegg all the way!
- jwalk81980, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I'm with solidblu. I don't trust computer parts from a place that will let someone buy gerbils and condoms in the same visit.
- LordExcelsior, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8The sad part is, I've seen something like that happen... at a best buy...
- HAKdragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Ben, we're all glad you've mastered the art of copying and pasting comments from slashdot...
- rewritable, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9WALMART manager: Duurrrrr what should we charge people for these things that go inside of computer?
WALMART DISTRICT manager: I dont know, if it has something to do with the inside of a computer charge an arm and a leg for it since computer parts are like expensive and stuff you know. - bigpeeler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Nice call, otherland. :-D
- Technopundit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Agreed, many components are not worth having, and high-end hardware goes for a premium..
Still, shopping discounts and rebates over time, upgrading or building machines has made Personal Computers a pretty affordable hobby if one really shops around. $13 for a WiFi card, $40 after rebates for a 200 gig HD, 19" Sony flat CRT monitor at Goodwill for 15 dollars, free Linux ... it's pretty amazing.
Yes, these are all deals I have found and purchased. The inventory is now up to six working PC's, spending perhaps 75 dollars a month, average.
Monitor Cheapstingybargains, Stealdeals, Dealdetectives, Techbargains, those ever-lovely Fry's ads, and thrift stores for great CRT monitors discarded in favor of space-saving LCD's (printers with refillable cartridges, too!) - Rhine23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I got that PCI card 4 years ago for 90 dollars :/
- mirunit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I dont think they are targeting the hardcore DIYers but the ones who have never built a computer before and since they buy other things from walmart would not be so hesitant to attempt a build.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I thought about calling you a moron. Then I decided that would be redundant.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"What self respecting PC builder is going to buy their gear at Walmart?...and admit it?"
You'd be suprised
Also aside from the Hardware aspect of it, How custmizable will it truley be? will you have the option to leave off the Operating System in favor of say a Linux Distro? or will they force you to use XP? - green67, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5What self respecting PC builder is going to buy their gear at Walmart?...and admit it?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7benlevon@ Okay I saw that on /. and now digg. Where's it originally from?
(Yes I have too much time)
http://hardware.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=184818&cid=15257911 - en3r0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I hope its cheep... Look out server, here I come!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Walmart will make computer parts overpriced. They have 512 usb sticks for 50 in their stores that are on buy.com for free now (20 dollar rebate - still only a 20 dollar usb stick!).
Also, walmart is evil. Watch that documentary. However I sometimes find myself shopping there but I have stopped. I always feel like its so confusing and the atmosphere is so ... big..and boring. - ianjones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yes why don't we wait and see exactly what components they sell and at what price, then decide if we'll buy any or not.
- mediamanbkk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3But....I suspect your mother would give a more sensible answer!
- ericpp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3... but will they sell stickers, air intakes, spinners, and everything else that makes your piece of junk computer appear to be good?
- pin0chet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You can become a billionaire by selling a hundred billion products at 1 cent profit each. In other words, Wal-Mart sells SO much that they ultimately make a decent profit, though their margins may be quite low. So yes, these ARE the same "low-profit" margins that made Sam Walton rich.
- rayishu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yeah i wanna see if wall mart can beat newegg because newegg kicks ass
- NewNole2001, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4They actually do sell that. Fabric and the patterns in the crafts section.
- Calculon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Ya'll got Nindenda tapes too? I like that Residential Evil" - True quote from working at EB Games several years ago
OR...
customer - ya'll got those computer thingys... rats?
me - you mean a mouse?
them - whatever i just need me one
God i feel sorry for anyone who has to work in the WalMart "computer" dept. - h4lofourt33n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Oh god, all I can see now is the third-party hardware industry going to hell. "Sam's Club Video Plus Extreme 8000, graphics to drench the senseless"
- chris86wm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A geek looking for a budget system maybe.
If the computers they sell are good machines, then the fact that they are from Walmart wont stop me from buying one.
With walmart's prices, they may even undercut dell. - wired4u, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I feel sorry for the tech support reps or have to support that crap
- shiftless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Oddly enough this could be a somewhat educational experience for some buyers, but most will probably unload the task to the one 'techie' family member. Ugh.
- LiterateWolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wal-Mart for DYI PCs? What self-respecting geek would be caught buying part from Wal-Mart? I'd rather get my stuff from Best Buy.
- tuxuser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i for one don't belive this a while a go it sw as said walmart would sell linux never happened then it was said that walmart would sell pc's with out an os never happened. now this ? it just won't happen.
- scootinger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't quite understand what this is:
a. somewhere that sells PC parts for someone to assemble
b. somewhere that builds PCs in-store for consumers to buy
c. somewhere that one can buy a PC and have it shipped to them (like Gateway Country stores or those Dell kiosks)
I'm guessing that "c" is the most likely - dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd be surprised if they let you choose components (Aslong as it's not just a few variations like ammount of RAM etc..), and force you to buy a copy of Windows..
Well, maybe not so much surprised as disappointed..
- Ben - DarkHack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wal-Mart is probably turning into a Wal-Mart Mall for all the shopoholic!
- mirunit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4This could help build intrest in computer related fields, much like model rockets helped spark interest in aeronautics and flight.
- Yoda716, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Please do not buy any products from Wal-Mart if it can be avoided. It's no so much the company I hate, it's the wal-mart family. They give less than $4,000 to charity and their employees give 20 million. If you own the largest retailer in the country and probably the world I expect A LOT more than that. Do something good with your money, help people, really make a difference in the world. Only then will I consider buying you products.
- miaow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Im in the UK and asda (owned by walmart) sells emachines (sempron, 40gb, 256mb, XP) with a 15' tft for £300 (about $480), which is a remarkably good buy for a surfing computer imho (providing theres no catch)
- PacketScan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1oh *****.. Newegg watch out.
- Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can see them doing well with low-cost pre-built PC's, but individual components? The only people who build their own PCs are the hard core geeks, who already know all the best places to buy computer parts. Wal-Mart is cheap, but what are the odds of them underselling Newegg?
- maverick1972, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wal-Marts prices are usually a little flakey. One week they'll have a great deal on blank DVD's and then beside them you'll find a Linksys Router for like 200 bucks or something stupid. They're clueless on computer stuff when it comes to pricing.
Not to mention the staff. Asking their sales associates a question would be like asking my mother about computer components. -
