- Tagwen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+34I dugg this just for the weird factor.
- Mejogid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Because.
- foo52, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26I wonder if he gets a popup message when it's done.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26For something like this...what you need is FireWire ;)
- cvraider7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26I could probably cook the same amount faster with the bottom of my Macbook Pro.
- gumby05, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26And for the crazy-looking meat factor.
- adfsj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21hmm...the easy bake oven http://www.thinkgeek.com/stuff/41/ezbake.shtml is much easier to install.
- abouthere, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19I wonder what power rating their PSU has?
- theblooms, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20"I wonder what power rating their PSU has?"
Right now they are #19 in both the AP and USA Today/Coaches poll. They play #2 ND on Sept 9th. - RipperMortis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16best user comment from that site concerning the meat:
"It's a placenta." - bayonetblaha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Throwing away a perfectly good placenta is a terrible waste.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12This is a good place to store your old Windows ME disks!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12You mean like this?
http://www.ps3grill.com/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1230 active USB ports and windows didn't crash? Who knew?
- Troopy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Pretty cool, but it uses ridiculous amounts of USB ports and I dont think it wil have that charcoal effect on the taste of the meat.
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9No, actually, all those things like the "USB refridgerator" are far stupider: This alone is proof of how little power a single USB port gives you.
If it takes 30 ports worth of power to cook, do you really, for a second believe that this thing:

Can really chill a can of soda, using power from a single USB port? - CrazySwayzee, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13you could like live at your computer.
this is a world of warcrack addicts dream! - Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Or cook it on the back of your MacBook:
http://www.tuaw.com/2006/07/13/cook-breakfast-with-your-macbook/ - Davidbt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7im still waiting for the usb deep fryer. so much danger and so much deliciounesness.... i dont think that is a word by its still true.
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6All those USB ports can still only use about 75 Watts.
- gigurtsis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6They are using a 500W Antec PSU. Here is the original translated article: http://www.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fxe.bz%2Faho%2F24%2F&langpair=ja%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF8

It's a joke. They don't exist.
You're right though -- fictional hardware usually outperforms real hardware. Excuse me while I go back to playing Quake 7 on my pentium 6 19ghz octuple-core PC. - Lifestory, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5you could have it medium rare then.
- bkdb9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5That's awesome! But why?
- WeeklyGeek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Barbecue describes cooking something slowly and with the cover on. Grilling is what is depicted here. COME ON.
- beeteew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5lmao, i'd love to have that! Only 6 USB ports on my PC though...
- acariquara, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"the best thing about placenta is cold placenta sandwiches the next morning"
(PA rules) - Conway, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Is it just me or did that meat look disgusting! I'm going to get a salad.
- tavisjohn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You mean like this:
http://www.phys.ncku.edu.tw/~htsu/humor/fry_egg.html
I am sure you could use Steak in this. - AMadeUpName, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Your math does not add up... 5W x 30 firewire ports = 150W not 450W and you cannot connect the 48V line of one firewire port to the ground of the next because they all run from the same 48V line in the card.... you would effectively be shorting all of the ports out so max voltage is.... 48V. Yes you could still use 150W to run a BBQ which would do a fair job but all the same. You would be better off taking the 12V and -12V lines directly from the PSU and running your grill off that. If you don't max the amp output from those two lines you should still be able to run the rest of your system. 24V (12 - (-12)) at 20 amps is 480 watts.
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Grilling also adequately describes what we're doing to the creator of this device XD
- xgravix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You could design a heavily-insulated container with a peltier cooler that would keep a beverage cold with just one USB port's worth of power. Keeping an insulated container cold is easy because all you have to make up for is the heat that leaks through the insulation. The thinkgeek product is silly, however, because it's not insulated, and you're right that it definitely doesn't have enough power to keep a beverage cool as designed.
- Jeebugorn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5well said, sir.....well said
- thestorey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Is this april fools... because i remember one time there was this grill....
- wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Dumb. They could have just opened up the case and used the heat off a Pentium D ;-)
- BillyEveryteen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Man am I hungry now...
- alej744, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3hahaha ***** dumbass
- rfunches, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Doesn't Firewire put out 40 some watts?"
According to:
http://developer.apple.com/documentation/HardwareDrivers/Conceptual/HWTech_FireWire/Articles/FireW_implementation.html
it looks like Firewire is designed to deliver 7 watts per port. Browsing through Google results, the PCI cards seem to do 5 watts or 10 watts. - nicroma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It is obvious that this wasn't supposed to be practical, but supposed to be funny/interesting. Although, I would hate plugging in 30 plugs every time I wanted to show it off.
- DS513, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Just buy a netburst-core Pentium 4, it works just as well, and also doubles as a space heater.
- LiquidPenguin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm not sure if I want to digg this or mark it as lame.
This falls squarely into the category of, "it's so stupid, it's hilarious." If you've ever immitated Beavis, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.
Unfortunately, I'm currently going through my, "cheap and practical," phase in life. I can't see spending approximately $1,000+ to get a BBQ the size of a cup coaster when I can spend $50 and buy a real BBQ to cook the rats behind my PC. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Guys, he is only using the +5V and GND lines of the USB. Not the Data lines. This means Windows has nothing to do with it at all, it doesn't even know that there is something connected to the 30 USB ports. You don't even need to boot into Windows to let this BBQ work, staring at the BIOS will do the trick :-)
- lazydrumhead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Molex, anyone?
- Bamborzled, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2...Extreme Edition.
- lucask, on 10/12/2007, -1/+330 USB ports kinda destroys the idea of something being USB powered don't you think? You should be able to have one USB that trickle charges a battery for a few days which then can be used to heat whatever you would like, seeing how I doubt this is a daily activity for most.
- DigDugDigger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I was thinking same thing. Doesn't Firewire put out 40 some watts?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2...ohh and i found the lighter.
http://www.clickonit.com/product.php?product=132069 - plastikimo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just flip over my PowerBook G4 after a few hours of music, internet, and photoshop. That should be hot enough for ya, no silly grill needed.
