- lolipop99, on 11/17/2008, -3/+238I would love to see USB monitors, and lots of other periherals using only one cable for both power and data!
- NathanielJ, on 11/18/2008, -2/+160http://digg.com/hardware/USB_3_0_ready
Same story submitted by the same guy from the same site 96 days ago. Must be really current news. - kangy3213, on 11/18/2008, -3/+139To bad no hard drive can I/O that fast...
- kakwakas, on 11/18/2008, -1/+121Yet.
- PaulCurrier, on 11/17/2008, -7/+775Gbps/USB, 100Gbps/Internet 2.0, 100Mbps/Wireless Ethernet, Modular Data Centers distributed across all CoLo Facilities and placed in geosynchronous orbit as well, and human use of any device to get to and from the cloud.... Let's go. I'm down for having the future now. Good Digg Peter!
- Munchy, on 11/17/2008, -5/+75Yesterday's Jam
- Azerael, on 11/18/2008, -0/+65I want some of whatever you're smoking.
- yuanzhoulu, on 11/18/2008, -0/+51screw the smoking, i want some of your 100gbps internet connection
- MarkusX, on 11/17/2008, -2/+53USB 3.0 is definitely long overdue for today's high data consuming/producing/transferring devices.
Can you wait to quickly backup a Terrabyte HDD with USB 2 ??? I prefer not to. - dujkan, on 11/17/2008, -2/+52it was about the time they update USB!
- Dinsdale77, on 11/18/2008, -4/+49Now I have to buy a new thumbdrive.....*****.
- treyd, on 11/18/2008, -4/+46You know what - that doesn't really to work as a thing, cause jam lasts for ages.
- martalli, on 11/18/2008, -1/+40Eight years for 3.0? I hope I live to see USB 4.0 - and to have higher hopes, too
- tendonut, on 11/18/2008, -0/+31Hey, he's right though. If your monitor is being powered over USB, the power has to come from somewhere..leaving the stress on your power supply.
- madhouseradio, on 11/18/2008, -4/+34Can someone please help. I am looking for the exe to upgrade to USB 3.0, I already have 2.0. All I can find is Ads on the Google
- Shaggy3, on 11/18/2008, -1/+31When asked about putting USB 3.0 into the next line of Macs, Steve Jobs laughed and called USB 3.0 a "bag of hurt".
- Wuss, on 11/18/2008, -4/+30title is a bit misleading. The spec has been finalize, USB 3.0 however, is not "ready" *for the market*.
- vpshockwave, on 11/18/2008, -1/+27Huh?
- jnordb, on 11/18/2008, -0/+25It's all fun and games until Skynet goes active and takes over....
- cerealjynx, on 11/18/2008, -8/+32Oh sweet, so THAT'S why there's no firewire on the new macbooks!!
...Oh, wait. - xxMarka, on 11/18/2008, -2/+26You are a dumbass
- tdkme, on 11/18/2008, -1/+23About in-line with the U.S.'s 3G roll out on cell phones... several years late.....
- inactive, on 11/18/2008, -1/+23Yeah. About five other people will get that.
- skywake, on 11/18/2008, -0/+21USB isn't limited to external drives...
- clickx, on 11/18/2008, -0/+19Uh there is no such thing as FireWire 3.0 You have S800T.
- BoneheadFarker, on 11/18/2008, -1/+20100Mbps/Wireless Ethernet??? 802.11N is rated at 300Mbps. Your aiming way too low...
- groo68, on 11/18/2008, -1/+19Tomorrow's Tuesday.
- inactive, on 11/18/2008, -4/+22Yes and then we need a ***** power supply, but I'm definitely for less cables or no cables at all.
- EvilCan, on 11/18/2008, -3/+21"more than six times what is offered buy USB 2.0 (480 Mb/s)"
So much fail... - wondertwins, on 11/18/2008, -0/+17...what ....the...*****....was....that....
- OrangeTide, on 11/18/2008, -1/+18USB 3.0 causes cancer.
- hocusposus, on 11/18/2008, -0/+16Me too, now all we need is a monitor that can run off of 500mA of power.
- BrendanSheehan, on 11/18/2008, -0/+15No you don't, it's backwards compatible with USB 2.0 I believe.
- NathanielJ, on 11/18/2008, -1/+15His kidding what?
- alexra, on 11/18/2008, -1/+15usb 3.0 isn't being released until 2010
- aircows, on 11/18/2008, -1/+14capacity has nothing to do with the speed of the medium...
- no1digger, on 11/18/2008, -1/+14they'd actually be 64GB...
- treyd, on 11/18/2008, -0/+13@HOTM: Then the digg I once knew is gone...
For the uninitiated: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_IT_Crowd_ ... - DeathfireD, on 11/18/2008, -0/+13The plug may look different but it still offers the old plug in setup so if you try and plug it into a USB2.0 hole, it will fit and work. The data will only go as fast as 2.0 though.
- NathanielJ, on 11/18/2008, -0/+12This reminds me of when the PS2 was first announced to be backwards compatible, and I read a letter to the editor where some guy asked if PS1 games worked in a PS2, why PS2 don't games work in a PS1.
- ZeoFateX, on 11/18/2008, -1/+13We'll get there eventually. =)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA#SATA_6Gb.2 ... - StevesJobs, on 11/18/2008, -1/+13Yay it's finally here! Now we just have to wait for computer companies to implement it! Oh darn...
- MrGreenGenes, on 11/18/2008, -0/+12It doesn't have to do anything with the processor. Add a USB controller onto the video cards.
- diggproof, on 11/18/2008, -0/+12becomes self-aware
- ExRe, on 11/18/2008, -3/+14Why? You likely won't see USB 3 mainstream for a couple of years anyways, so even if you had a USB 3 thumbdrive it would be useless because no computer you could use would support it.
Also, thumbdrives are cheap, 4GB drives are $5-10, 8GB drives are regularly under $20, and 16GB drives are around $35-40. - dacheetah, on 11/18/2008, -0/+11A 1TB SATA300 HDD can read and write at faster than USB2.0 speeds. That's why they have e-Sata ports on External HDD enclosures. Although USB3.0 will keep up with the HDD pretty easy. At least until they make a faster HDD.
- donalddraper, on 11/18/2008, -1/+11It's called bluetooth.
- novenator, on 11/18/2008, -0/+10I'm still on a dinosaur usb1.0. When backing up a movie, it takes all ***** night
