- andyeb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3But if all peripherals are wireless, aren't the support reps going to be a bit stuck? Their first question is always, is it plugged in?!
- ScoTTeh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3According to the article, its called Wireless USB v1.0 (WUSB) and NOT USB v3.0. They also state that it could take a decade for the switch to happen. So i wouldnt get to excited about it just yet. The article links to a more interesting page at http://www.everythingusb.com/wireless_usb.html.
- HiredGun45, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A decade before the switch happens! This technology will be surpassed 6 times by then.
Good rule of thumb anybody who says we'll have this product in the market place in 10 years is selling snake oil and isn't even trying. Randomly select 5 R&D people from any of the networking or wireless companies, hand them a couple of mil and they'd have this out the door in 12 months. - mrops, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now if we can only have Wireless Power, we would be truly wire free.
- JamesGHill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@urusai
You've just pointed out the flaw in the plan. This technology already exists, and while Bluetooth is somewhat of a success (mobile phone headsets) it isn't nearly as big as expected (the elimination of all cables other than the power cable, everything connected to everything wirelessly, automatic updates of devices from your main computer).
Wireless updating hasn't become common place, and the techonlogy is already out there. This is another Intel technology that won't go anywhere.
James Hill - Webjunkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm having a hard time understanding how wireless usb will work. The main hurdle I'm running up against is the whole "where does the power come from" issue. Is this just for people who don't want to run a cable from their external hard drive to their box? I'm so confused.
- domokunt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1""But if all peripherals are wireless, aren't the support reps going to be a bit stuck? Their first question is always, is it plugged in?!""
second question "have yoo turned eet owf and ouwn" - teh_techie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2are you SERIOUS??? This article EXPLICITLY SAYS NO USB 3.0!! Title is misleading. Reported. no digg.
- Bluntzilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i cant wait for the security issues involved with wUSB 1.0
- mtvkilledusall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Vaporware.
- pantuky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1 If you are foaming at the mouth waiting for wireless USB I’m going to enjoy punching you in the nose a few times. Wireless USB is a dead baby. Forget about. You want to talk about a stillborn pregnancy nightmare, Wireless USB is indeed it. Wireless USB will never be a factor.
Why is Wireless USB a dead baby? Because wireless is unreliable, period point blank, no qualifications, no caveats. Wireless is unreliable. It’s okay if you walky-talky fuzzes, it’s okay if your Cell phone goes in and out. It’s okay if your Television fritzes and snows out. However, it is never okay for your data communications get garbled and corrupted. When you are making currency exchanges, data transfers, video downloads, corruption is permanent and it ruins (or poisons) the stream. I don’t care what sort of work you do, you can’t afford data corruption. One of the worst aspects of the wireless mouse and keyboards I’ve used is the tendency for interference to mess up my key strokes and mouse movements. I got sick of it about 6 months ago and returned to USB cables. I am happy and productive again.
“OH, BUT PANTUKY! You are missing the fact the Wireless USB is a new technology designed from the ground up to increase shareholder value by delivering rock solid performance to the consumer.”
*****! Bull ***** *****! Wireless USB suffers from the same problem all of this wireless crap suffers from: It runs on the 2.4GHz bandwidth. This radio frequency band is bumpy as ***** because just about all consumer devices are jammed into this spectrum. All of these devices jam the hell out of each other, and corrupt a lot of data in the process. - lezombi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1proof of people digging without reading.
could there possibly be a more misleading title? - Gigadafud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i dont care or know what the rest of you think, but am i the only person that thinks that 95% of all wireless things out there, besides a cell phone tend to suck ass like 99% of the time.
- blatheron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Geez. It's called ultrawideband (UWB), people. This has been talked about for years now.
No digg.
www.extremeuwb.com - napoleon45, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1inaccurate->reported
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hmm, just imagine. Your iPod automaticaly updates when you walk in the room with your PC via the WUSB. Not only does it do it wirelessly, it also does it in 2 seconds.
The possibilities on this are awesome, wouldnt this also make wireless keyboards and mice work more nicely, since they wouldn't probably work on the 2.5 GhZ band? Wireless stuff always seems to mess with my phone - siouxmoux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes UBS 3 is coming but I report this story as inaccurate, no digg. And UsE TooTiE!
- ZrO-1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Man the headline and summary on this aren't even remotely close to the content of the linked page. I've seen some inaccurate posts here but this one is in the top 5 least accurate.
No Digg - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"How is it going to get power? now we have to plug the device into the wall... o fun.
Cool nonetheless for battery powered devices though"
Well, I heard abiut wireless power sources that will recharge your devices. They actually use magnets to charge or for the WUSB, they could use the wireless signal. - MountainFlip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So when it does come out, will i have to buy a USB 2.0 device to upgrade to USB 3.0?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...................... - iflyifr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What is it with morons and their inaccurate titles? The title has very little, if any at all, as to what is in the article. Go find us the 4756th Apple article for this week.
- starheart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hope the wireless stuff gives a wired backup option, or that wired is still an option. Being forced to use wireless everything would blow.
- Slugo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can wait
- jull1234, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Gots to agree. No digg.
- leetcharmer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ya, no USB.
BUT -- WUSB :D (wireless USB)
which is not USB 3.0 - HaroldHupmobile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0We killed it.
- cius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yea, article clearly states that there is no usb 3.0 and that the 1Gbps is the limit of WUSB as per intel's plans. The submitter is a complete moron. No digg.
- shiftless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Would be nice.
- ratsg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What a waste. USB is fine for keyboard, mice, scanners and other low speed add ons. FireWire 2 is already in this area and working fine
- trakais, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that article is more than a year old and it says that there is no usb3. wtf? no digg
- Drull, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Story has been dugg to death :/
- kmarchiori, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oops, Digg effecteded!
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Isn't this called Bluetooth?
BTW, wireless sucks. - EternalNY1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This story says the OPPOSITE of the title of this post!!!
NO DIGG! - elpayo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For now, Belkin has the USB wireless already hooked up. http://www.mobilewhack.com/reviews/belkin_cablefree_usb_hub.html
- Mcclenahan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No digg, just gay
- GGERG15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How is it going to get power? now we have to plug the device into the wall... o fun.
Cool nontheless for battery powered devices though - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yea wireless is pretty stupid when you still have to have a powered device, the cool thing about many usb devices is not having to deal with big honking AC adapters.
this is a step back. - skylinetx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0BTW, WUSB doesn't use the 2.4GHz spectrum....
- canucksin2006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There is a way, just go into your profile and press the undigg button beside the story...
The More You Know! - gamekid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"The migration, ironically, could be jumpstarted by FreeScale's competing Cable-Free USB whose supporters promise to ship their wireless products much sooner than Certified Wireless USB counterparts."
"The best thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from." --exact origin unknown - topper24hours, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I knew it was bogus as soon as I read the title. Just had to flame the idiot submitter tho'.
- crispytown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Worth the digg.
- Jozer99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Quote from the article:
9. Is there a plan for USB 3.0 or a faster USB 2.1?
No, but you've probably heard about the news already. - negativeview, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You can scroll to the bottom... or you can just go to http://www.everythingusb.com/usb2/faq.htm#9
- xLiKx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0what is this? this ain't no story. even the faq in the link contradicts the title. did people read this before they dugg it? NO DIGG
- cualexander, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This story proves there needs to be a way to UNDIGG something. There is no way a story that doesn't confirm anything, and is way old news needs to even remotely be dugg this much.
UNDIGG. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0How is wireless = serial bus? story is BS anyway, no digg.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0The USB 3.0 thing is kinda in the roadmap at the bottom of the page
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+01gbps is faster than anyone will need....
you never get speeds even close to 480mbps....
Thats all gimmic -
