- nuclearpenguins, on 10/12/2007, -20/+47I'm Digging this due to no ipods being on the list.
- robbh66, on 10/12/2007, -5/+29"The Sony PlayStation Portable was the portable gadget of 2005."
Yeah...ok... - tsupersonic, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23Hmm what a list, that list is pretty bad. First of all, I can't believe Cnet considers themselves a technology website. Who puts PSP on that list? Why would you put the Dell XPS on that list? I have to disagree big time with the Cnet staff on this list, they're just a disgrace when it comes to "Best" & "Worst" lists.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20The small bit of header text seems to explain that...
"You may be shocked not to find an iPod on the list below. Well, here comes some more shocking news. The iRiver Clix, thanks to its excellent compatibility with the revamped Windows Media Player 11 and MTV Urge music service, joins the party this week. Yup: no iPod, no iTunes...and no doubt about it."
On the other hand, an ad at the top of the screen for three tech gadgets has 2 of the 3 of them appearing in the list below, so this looks like just a thinly-disguised shill to sell these products. I guess Apple doesn't *need* to pay anyone to advertise its products for them. - pluto41, on 10/12/2007, -15/+29The Zen Vision doesn't deserve the second place. I have that thing as well as a iPod. The Zen is a crappy expensive piece of junk compared to the iPod. Thats my opinion. The firmware sucks. The software sucks, its scratches its display like hell so you'll better leave it at home. And Zencast is a piece of crap too :p
- Dracos, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17Gawd, C|Net is such a joke. If .suck was ever created as a top level domain, they should be awarded suck.suck simply out of principle.
- gamersedge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12what? no nintendo ds?
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"You may be shocked not to find an iPod on the list below."
By stating this he is implying at from the get go that if others wrote this list it would be totally different ;)
"Canon PowerShot S80" What the heck is this in the top 10 for? There are plenty of better digital cameras for that price. The Panasonic "Lumix DMC-LXi" for one! - patjamas, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11More like top-10-companies-who-donate-to-cnet--most's-flagship-gadget.
- kivimaki, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Yay for corporate bias!
- xinul, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9ya the list is a total joke soon as I saw the psp on it I quit taking it seriously. And series 2 tivo? I loved my series 2 tivo when I got it over three years now the hardware is out of date and the subscription fee too high what a silly list this was
- Woknblues, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9everything sucked except for the last three, and those were just "OK.".. pretty lame. 2 dumb things to watch TV and some consoles and a video Ipod clone. wowee.
- abdulla, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9This seems more like some crappy marketing gimmick on CNet's behalf. Unless this is truly what they believe the top 10 is. In that case, I don't think I'll be taking their opinion seriously anymore.
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -12/+18Yeah. As much as I love Creative and hate Apple, you have to admit the Zen just sucks.
- tijer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9This list tops out with completely useless stuff... no digg.
- JustinLeung, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9How about the DS? And i think it outsold the PSP + it has better games.
- reforged, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12quite honently, nothing on there is appealing.
All of that is stuff that makes your life more complicated than easy.
@nuclearpenguins, i love my ipod. Sorry it is just great - SuperSloth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Marked as lame just because it's CNet.
Edit: Wow... just read the list. Can I mark it as lame x2? - Xanin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I didn't know a TV was a 'gadget'....
- hankyone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5So you bought an iPod and a Zen? click -> http://www.redcross.org/donate/donate.html
- Uruviel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Ah no iPod no Nintento DS no decent PDA ... what no Tablet PC? A Gaming Laptop WTF?
More a list of things i-do-not-want-to-buy - sionnach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"While it's a hair thicker than the iPod"
Are cnet reviewers' hairs a whole 8mm thick?? the 30gb zen vision is over 70% thicker than the 30gb ipod. It might as well be a copy and paste from creative's marketing department, this list is useless.
Also if you're wondering, the zen is actually 160-400 hairs thicker than the ipod as human hair thickness varies
( : - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5But the DS was primarily a gaming system. The PSP was primarily an EVERYTHING-system. Though the DS did its one function far better than the PSP ( Its games are much, much better ) the PSP is stilla better gadget because it can play videos, play mp3's surf the internet (First person to mention the opera browser gets shot), and play thousands of 'legal' roms.
- JustinLeung, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9I agree the zen has more colors than the ipod but it still looks crappier and has a dreadful touch pad.
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It screams product placement to me. I don't own a single one of these "gadgets" (how is a Dell XPS laptop a gadget?), and I'm a gadget freak. The whole thing looks like a big ad.
- nesagwa, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8"The Sony PlayStation Portable was the portable gadget of 2005"
Wonder what universe they were living in last year. - mlebeau, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Hugely appealing, cmical. I can understand that for some people it doesn't have much utility, but I use it on many occasions. I bought it because my girlfriend and I wanted to be able to watch my TiVo from her place from time to time, but I'm *really* using it now that I am living in Amsterdam temporarily. I still have my TiVo set up at home and can watch all my American TV, it's sweet! I could, of course, always download shows on BitTorrent, but it takes a lot more time and effort, and this way I can watch any of my stuff, not just the ones I feel strongly enough about to go to the trouble of downloading.
- bariswheel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Who reads cnet? reported as lame, you do the same...
number 1 gadget to have is a tivo? wake up and smell the coffee
CNET REEKS OF MARKETING HOOPLA AND ALL THE 12 year old DIGG HAXORS fall for it every friggin time.
laughable! - liverpoolfc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4PSP and a Dell laptop, come on C|net you lamers!
- 7IM80, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I think creative probally is. Cnet stinks. There isn't one peice of useful information on their website. their probally plugging companys products who are paying them to.
- jeffgtr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Cnet is one big advertisement. For me, they don't have any credibility when it comes to independent product reviews. It's sad, I used to go to that site alot a few years ago but now it's not worth the click. No digg on this one.
- lieb39, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Not really fond of that comment above.. makes it sound like they didn't consider the iPod purely because there is a alternative, and apparently everyone is sick of the iPod.
Don't shut out a product simply because it's been the most popular for a while, for the pure sake of going against a product. - Terry2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You wonder how impartial this list really is -- no iPod? That is just hard to believe.
- McZiggz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That's because anyone who buys into the idea of Must Have Gadgets lists surely has an iPod (at least one).
Plus the obvious fact that CNet takes money to make these lists so they are extremely biased... aka worthless - MahRain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4http://img142.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture18go.png
See the truth... "Sponsored by Microsoft" LOL
Who can believe this list when the most popular products of the day aren't on it, while the dogs are?! - Dotnetsky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Funny. I don't have any of these items and I still feel privileged to get up in the morning and play with my own list of toys. Big fyookin' deal.
- 7IM80, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I couldnt care less what cnet thinks their articles are crap.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Even if it works great, it's the ugliest piece of tech ever committed to plastic. I hope you are hiding it behind something in your component rack.
- computermatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Why the heck is the xbox 360 on there? It's a piece of trash.
- therealspike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Cnet is anti Apple anyway. Everytime they talk about Apple, its on the negative side. This list is crap. The iRiver Clix is so fragile, the rep didn't want me to hold it in my hand in case it brake. Shiat!!
- dan90251, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3CNet must be on the Microsoft payroll, The Zen Vision is frankly huge, It failed the girlfriend test instantly in comparison to the Ipod (she still wouldn't buy me one though). I'm in the UK and don't get the Tivo, but that'd be the only gadget I'd be interested in. I could even hear the fans of the Xbox360 in the video, another one that failed the GF test... thinking of it CNet should do a GF test. The Dell laptop, clearly they haven't seen the new Macbooks?? They may be overpriced but I still want one. The Treo... well I don't have a smartphone but Blackberry's are all the rage here.
- weiran, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This list is pretty poor, the Creative Zen Vision:M isn't all that, theres not point to getting the Dell as it weighs almost as much as a desktop, they've clearly not used many Palm PDAs because I've used all the Treo models and they are all pretty poor, and that Panasonic plasma is easily beaten by the Pioneer ones on picture quality, and even the Sony is too (which is a massive waste of money).
- xlii, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Those aren't even exciting...
- h198x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3CNet has jumped the shark...again.
No digg. - cmical, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Does anyone really find the Slingbox appealing?
- nabilanwar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3some of the gadgets on the list are truly....
wow, cnet is not an honorable company. - Ingold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That is the lamest lot of things "to have". Then again it is Cnet, they always have Quality articles.. - not -
- Ikey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5A gaming laptop and a palm treo? Thanks but no thanks.
- sole, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Cnet is just a big advertisement.
- cybershoplifter, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Top 10 tech must haves? In my case #1,3,8 (the TV stuff) are out since I have no TV signal in my home. #2,4,5 (mp3, video player, gaming) Sony & Creative are suk co.'s. #6 (Dell Plug?) I'll wait for the the new 19" wide-screen laptops. 7# (MS plug) I'll play games on my PC, but thank you anyway. #9 I will stick with Crackberry #10 Wanna good camera?? my pick - Casio 6 MP EXILIM EX-S600 now that's a cool camera with photo restoration, anti-shake and about the size of a thick credit card.
