The box was somehow hit with a forklift. The person I spoke to on the phone tried to offer me 10 dollars if I was willing to keep the unit even after explaining the whole 'forklift smashing the container' details - Progranism, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19They've had a XSS attack vector open on their website for years now. See for yourself.

I told them about it and never got a response.
Oh there's all sorts of things to do with XSS. You could make it look like Tiger Direct sells gay pr0n and hentai. Or steal people's accounts. Your choice. - jimphelps, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Here are some other threads to digg:

Also check out http://www.ripoffreport.com - latour, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12for canadian people, ncix all the way... tigerdirect.ca is all bs and they're expensive.
- MisterKen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10You must be lucky.
They sent us a keyboard with keys missing and the cord cut. They tried to blame it on FedEx, but the box was pristine. The guy at FedEx said 'they try this at least once a month. I'm surprised they haven't blamed you'. Sure enough, they did. When we called Amex their rep said we should 'seriously reconsider future purchases'. - optimusprime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I used to swear by TigerDirect and recommend them to all my clients... not anymore. I sent in for a $50 rebate and was denied because of some crap excuse "missing documentation"... but they wouldn't tell me what part of my rebate submission was missing... because I did it right in the first place! TigerDirect sucks.
- bryan8m, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9TigerDirect should be banned from the "deals" section of digg.
- reidypeidy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9i usually use newegg, they ship everything on time and it's cheaper than tigerdirect
- xerox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8they scam you sooo hard on shipping.
- Rickler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Newegg for the win.
Newegg has completely changed the way I shop for computer hardware. Their category searching has no match... you can search for a GFX card based on Pixelpiplines... I have yet to encounter any other site with such comprehensive search features. Not to mention shipping times and prices. - acceptab1euname, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I agree. I've given NewEgg literally thousands of dollars, and though I've heard some horror stories from when they first started up, I have never had a problem with them. Next year when i build my new computer, I'll be giving my money to NewEgg for sure. I've heard of nothing but problems with people who've dealt with TigerDirect, which is why I have never and will never use their services.
- SBelyea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7They've always been a shady dealer. First and last dealing we had with them was in 2002 when they sent us a damaged computer chassis and wouldn't compensate us. They definitely aren't a Newegg.
- chigaze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I returned a RAM order 3 times. The first time someone in the warehouse made a substitution. I talked to a sales rep who said to send it back but didn't believe my explanation. The second time someone in the warehouse made a substitution. The third time someone in the warehouse made a substitution. There was no fourth time.
- acceptab1euname, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7the problem is that the merchant is the one who determines which complaints are "resolved", which means that tigerdirect can simply lie and say that they consider the matter resolved.
- alphacoder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Doing software development down here in Miami, I would often steer some clients to Tigerdirect, not all but some. Well, I bought a Treo phone from them and this is how it went:
1. Order placed yet got an email saying the phone was on backorder.
2. After a week, called and finally got through to someone who said that it was 'already in processing' and could not be cancelled but all I had to do was refuse the shipment when it came!
3. Figured I'd wait but when it did show up about 10 days later (with overnight shipping), the phone said 'Spring PCS' on it!
4. Called Tigerdirect since I had their ad printed as well as my order confirmation page which stated it was for Verizon only. They said that Verizon and Sprint used the same phones and to take it into the store so they can - no lie - reboot it!
LMAO! In the last six or seven months, I've steered all my clients away from them and that's to the tune of about $25K in computer equipment. - thexder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I used to work there, and well you can call me a disgruntled employee, but none of the employees are gruntled. The Fiorentinos are crooks.
- atomist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Oooh that explains a lot.
Ordered a LCD Projector from Tigerdirect. Told my boss cause it was a good deal $499.
Few days later my projector arrives. DOA. Great but it had 30 days warranty so I got it fixed at a local shop.
My boss's projector arrives and lasts 35 days, then dies (same problem mine had). Of course out of warranty...
A few month later I order 2 250gb S-ATA drives. They just threw them into a small box with some peanuts. Of course 1 of the 2 was DOA.
So far nothing I have received from tiger direct was 100% working... so much for ordering from them again. - mwilliamson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Tiger direct also has stores here in Canada, which beleive it or not are actually worse than the internet. Though I've never bought online from them, I will never go back again. One time I went for a VGA to S-VIDEO adapater. I had previously looked up the one I wanted, but they didn't have it in store. I selected another one, but it didn't say if it supports 1024x768+ displays. So I asked a sales person, they didn't know, nor would they let me use the internet to look up the product. Finally I talked to a manager, who was unwilling to let me use the Internet in the store or let me return the product if it didn't meet my needs.
Sadely, I went back one more time to get a PCMCIA wireless card with the same issue. No one there knew if it supports Linux and I couldn't get on the Internet to check. Stock in store has none of the items available online. The people go out of their way to not help you.
NEVER EVER EVER EVER BUY FROM TIGER DIRECT!! - Alaerus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6www.newegg.com
Its the only company I deal with now. Yes, sometimes their prices are higher, yes, I have to pay more for Fedex now. But you know what? I don't mind. Because I know I'll get my parts in when they say and I'll be getting quality stuff. - BlueLaser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I don't usually get involved in these rants, but this one is ABSOLUTELY true.
I bought an IBM ThinkPad from the site about 9 months ago...but not without a hellish experience. The site advertised a ThinkPad with a track pad and USB 2.0. I ordered it. It arrived. BUT...it had not track pad, no USB 2.0, a power supply with someone's name written on it with whiteout, and when I turned it on for the first time it booted straight into somebody's already used Windows XP installation!
Needless to say, I went through the whole return game. Waited on the phone f o r e v e r just to get a rep who didn't know what a "track pad" was for a screwed up laptop order. I eventually got an RMA number and a replacement in the mail, but not without first PAYING AGAIN for the laptop until they got my return (wouldn't have done it had I known how risky that was at the time).
I did eventually get my replacement that had a track pad but still no USB 2.0- an issue I was willing to swallow because I didn't want to go through the whole return process AGAIN! These digg rants are usually made by those people who had the isolated problem from a company, but I think there is no doubt that TigerDirect is the PriceRitePhoto of computer dealers! - MisterKen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It really is amazing they are still around. How do they do it?
Their prices suck, their customer dis-service is legendary... - lagrange, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Tiger Direct has realized something thats usually a shock to legitimate business people.
If you sent out defective product, only about 25% of it will come back, and you can sell that again and it probably wont come back either.
Sleasy as hell, but true. There are a lot of businesses like Tiger Direct that thrive on the fact that returns on sub $50 items are very low, most people dont consider it worth the trouble. - pwncore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I ordered a case from them over a year ago and it arrived with a broken front bezel and no fans (it was advertised as having three 80 mm fans). I called them, got a RMA, and even paid to ship it back UPS (about $30). They refused to reimburse me but said they were still going to keep the case. I told them I'm not paying $70 for something I don't even have let alone a broken one that came not as advertised. I disputed them on my credit card for over a year befor ethey finally gave up.
- nullvector, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5TigerDirect has been horrible for as long as I can remember. Even in the late 90's I remember people talking about ordering from them and thinking to myself..."what a newb"...
People get a catalog in the mail and they assume the place is legit. 9/10 times I've seen people order from them, they receive the order all screwed up, or its a blatant scam with rebates that never come in, etc.
Just check resellerratings, do your research before you buy. - morcheeba, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6We got a $250,000 tape drive delivered. The tapes are huge, and the decks have a little yellow triangle with a hand crossed out so you don't put your hand in the loading slot. Well, someone drove a forklift into that slot -- guess they couldn't think of everything. We were a bit suspicious when the delivery guy unloaded it all by himself and tried to leave quickly.
- pairanoyd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5They screwed me on an item I ordered but was not delivered.
I ordered a case/PS last year, TD sent it to UPS but UPS sent it back to TD saying they weren't delivering to my area because hurricane Rita had hit the area a month before, this was nonsense because I was watching UPS trucks making deliveries all over the area. Anyway, TD sent me a message saying they couldn't deliver the item and refunded me for the item only, but not for the shipping.
TD kept the $17 for something they never shipped to me.
When I tried to call them about it they claimed they were overloaded with calls from hurricane hit areas and put me on hold with a message telling me the wait time was over 2 hours. I only have a cell phone so that was a no go.
Sorry bastards. I'll NEVER do business with them again. And they have the balls to keep sending me catalogs like I'm going to buy something from them.
Screw Tiger Direct, I wipe my ass with your catalogs. - wtf00, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I used to buy at tiger direct back in 2002, but one day I got tired of there ***** shipping and I wrote email telling them how come there shipping so expensive compare to other online site like newegg, and zipzoomfly... they reply "our shipping is fair compare to other site, if you dont like our shipping price find another site to do business with" and I reply "fine, I got to newegg they treat me like a ***** king and free shipping"
***** tigerdirect and there ***** low price... - Owned1Up, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5TigerDirect sucks, I never ordered anything from them because they couldn't even reply to my e-mails. Newegg all the way.
- Red_Eye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Tiger has always had issues, its a you get what you pay for outfit. I bought some 3Com 802.11b equipment from them years ago(my last purchase from them) it was on clearance. It arrieved and the access point was an Isreal unit with limited channels and other issues. I still have it because I wouldnt push this on my worst enemy. They refused to credit me despite the incorrect item description.
- kazem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I love how they tried to sue Apple for the name of their Tiger OS a while back.
Cheap bastards. - sp3ctrecs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Wow, I kind of find this all surprising. While I don't primarily shop at TigerDirect, I have made several large purchases there, and have never had a problem. I even had an item placed on backorder once, called to cancel, and I was on and off the phone within 5 minutes without any problems. Maybe I'm just lucky?
- algorythm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Beware of their rebate scams. They usually say they never received it or that you are missing something. You cant prove that your missing something because they keep the stuff you sent. Just boycott them and lets hope they go out of business. Some morons, however, like the guy above will continue to support them.
- blogsceptic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If you're in Canada, it costs $12 to mail the rebate form to Florida with the required registered mail.
But get this: many of their refunds are for $10 off!!!
SLIMY - MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Finally. These guys need to go down.
- morcheeba, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5whoops - I forgot to make clear that the tape drive was *not* from tiger direct!
- Brutis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5down with tigerdirect, i'd personally like to see them vanish and quit taking consumer's money. I'd rather order from a 0 feedback person on ebay then them.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4yeah they ripped me off $50 on a rebate!
- btipling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4After reading all of these digg articles I will never ever buy anything from Tiger Direct. Thanks for the warning! Heh, there are plenty of other electronic gadget companies that wont play these games with you.
- goingpostale1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Why would anyone, ever buy from this company instead of newegg? We all know newegg is the best, I still use them even when the price difference between items favors tigerdirect or some less reputable store. Paying the extra money is worth not dealing with the *****. I've used newegg since 02 and I will as long as they continue to provide stellar service and pricing.
- runninmac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Good, I bought a CD burner/DVD player from them about 2 years ago. I got it, didn't open. Called them up got a second one, same exact problem. Returned it got another one still didn't open i tried everything... I gave up and just ended up going to the store any getting another one
My life story - dtfinch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It looks like they've finally updated the specs:
Battery Form Factor: AA
Batteries Included: Yes
Battery Charger Included: No
Their website is in dire need of routine maintenance. I managed to get a 19" monitor from them for $69 a while back, which they corrected to $169 shortly after.
Luckily I haven't had any big troubles with TigerDirect. Everything ships on time and is just what I thought I was ordering. I ordered a server from TigerDirect and another server from Dell, both customized, and TigerDirect beat Dell by two weeks*. But their business practices do smell pretty bad. Their rebate policy, for example, seems to prevent you from returning the product under warranty after you've claimed the rebate. And it seems they block my reviews if I ever describe a general problem with the product, even if my overall rating is positive.
* Dell delayed our server order so they could give their telemarketers a chance to try and sell us upgrades. Pretty rotten. Dell's warranty support has been quite good though. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4start sending emails:
executive from tigerdirect
rwallet@tigerdirect.com - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3spam? more like a warning to all the peeps out there doing online shopping ;)
- suprfli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is already a long thread but I had to add my warning in here as well.
DO NOT EVER BUY FROM TIGER DIRECT!!!
I made the mistake of buying parts to build 2 full PC's a coupel of years ago. I never got all of my parts, the parts I got we're defective, they lied to me about what was in stock, when I called to correct the issues they put me on hold every time for more than an hour, when I did get through after the hold times and started to tell them the problem they put me on hold again and then "accidentlally disconnected" me. It was a HORRIBLE experience. I was lucky enough to dispute the charges w/my credit card company and they saw the BBB reviews as well as the letter I wrote and I won the dispute. Even after that I had bill collectors calling me for a year and sending threatening letters. It was an absolutely terrible experience.
Newegg.com all the way. They're an excellent company and I've purchased thousands of dollars of hardware from them. The one time I had an issue they were courteous and resolved the matter immediately 100% to my satisifaction.

http://www.southbeachcasa.com - Bluezdood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah I mean, at BEST you'll get a mediocre experience with Tiger Direct. If you're lucky, what you ordered will work. If not, get ready to piss and moan for a month or more before they decide to actually do something about it. I had called once to ask about a product they advertised and started by saying "I'm not quite ready to order this" but before I could give the reason why (i.e. they screw up the listings CONSTANTLY) the guy on the phone cut me off and said "Well call back when you are!" all rude and such. Up yours ignorant prick. Ever since Newegg has gotten my business.
- Hurricane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3LMAO, they once threatened to "call the local authorities" on a friend of mine because he was trying to return a bad MoBo that he was putting in a friends computer.
They told him he did not need to be offering PC Repair without a business license.
My Uncle got jacked on a keyboard (not sent) and couldn't get his rebate on a MoBo.
*****, I never order from them, even though I have to pay state sales tax to Newegg, it is worth the difference.. - nick123pig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The warehouse in Naperville they have is a load of crap. 3 hours I waited to buy memory. One stick. It had a 50$ rebate the salesperson assured me, but in reality the rebate expired 2 months ago.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i agree with the review blocking part most definetly... has happened to me many times :|
- t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This was the same company that tried to sue Apple for it's usage of the "Tiger" name for Mac OS 10.4, claiming that Apple was creating confusion, remember?
- minmaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3only 1 shopping experience and it was bad.
i ordered memory which was on the last date of rebate. they shipped me few days later but on the invoice put the shipping date as my order date so i couldnt get rebate. when i called to complain, the CSR hung up on me! i called back and it happened again...definetly does not deserve a second chance. -
