Their website is in dire need of routine maintenance. I managed to get a 19" monitor from them for $69 a while back, which they corrected to $169 shortly after.
Luckily I haven't had any big troubles with TigerDirect. Everything ships on time and is just what I thought I was ordering. I ordered a server from TigerDirect and another server from Dell, both customized, and TigerDirect beat Dell by two weeks*. But their business practices do smell pretty bad. Their rebate policy, for example, seems to prevent you from returning the product under warranty after you've claimed the rebate. And it seems they block my reviews if I ever describe a general problem with the product, even if my overall rating is positive.
* Dell delayed our server order so they could give their telemarketers a chance to try and sell us upgrades. Pretty rotten. Dell's warranty support has been quite good though. - mwilliamson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Tiger direct also has stores here in Canada, which beleive it or not are actually worse than the internet. Though I've never bought online from them, I will never go back again. One time I went for a VGA to S-VIDEO adapater. I had previously looked up the one I wanted, but they didn't have it in store. I selected another one, but it didn't say if it supports 1024x768+ displays. So I asked a sales person, they didn't know, nor would they let me use the internet to look up the product. Finally I talked to a manager, who was unwilling to let me use the Internet in the store or let me return the product if it didn't meet my needs.
Sadely, I went back one more time to get a PCMCIA wireless card with the same issue. No one there knew if it supports Linux and I couldn't get on the Internet to check. Stock in store has none of the items available online. The people go out of their way to not help you.
NEVER EVER EVER EVER BUY FROM TIGER DIRECT!! - jsac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i agree with the review blocking part most definetly... has happened to me many times :|
- t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This was the same company that tried to sue Apple for it's usage of the "Tiger" name for Mac OS 10.4, claiming that Apple was creating confusion, remember?
- hyegeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2dtfinch is comparing two weasel companies and seems to come to the conclusion that tigerdirect is the lesser of two weasels.
- jimphelps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"...lesser of two weasels." Very funny!
Somebody has been watching Master and Commander.

The box was somehow hit with a forklift. The person I spoke to on the phone tried to offer me 10 dollars if I was willing to keep the unit even after explaining the whole 'forklift smashing the container' details- jimphelps, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Ouch! So they offered you a whole $10- ...wow, how generous of them. LOL.
- morcheeba, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6We got a $250,000 tape drive delivered. The tapes are huge, and the decks have a little yellow triangle with a hand crossed out so you don't put your hand in the loading slot. Well, someone drove a forklift into that slot -- guess they couldn't think of everything. We were a bit suspicious when the delivery guy unloaded it all by himself and tried to leave quickly.
- morcheeba, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5whoops - I forgot to make clear that the tape drive was *not* from tiger direct!
- theblackgecko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I like the smashed up look for case mods.
- ckedge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just got a 24" widescreen Dell LCD monitor whose box was also hit with a forklift, fortunately it was a "grazing blow" and merely opened a foot and a half long, 3 inch wide gash in the box and the packing material. Monitor was fine.
I was NOT impressed with the office admin who took delivery of the package and signed despite the glaring obvious huge amount of damage to the box.
- Progranism, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19They've had a XSS attack vector open on their website for years now. See for yourself.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/search.asp?keywords=%3Cscript%3Ealert%281%29%3B%3C%2Fscript%3E
I told them about it and never got a response.
Oh there's all sorts of things to do with XSS. You could make it look like Tiger Direct sells gay pr0n and hentai. Or steal people's accounts. Your choice.- Drizzit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Probably explains why my credit card got raped a few dozen times after I ordered from them back in 2001. It's happened to a friend also.
- kacymartin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2my Credit Card got slammed with a few 700 dollar charges after ordering from TD as well. I havent even been to the site since then and stictly use NewEgg now.
- bitwiseplatypus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What a coincidence. I also sent them an email about that issue and didn't get a response.
- Owned1Up, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5TigerDirect sucks, I never ordered anything from them because they couldn't even reply to my e-mails. Newegg all the way.
- bryan8m, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9TigerDirect should be banned from the "deals" section of digg.
- Rickler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Newegg for the win.
Newegg has completely changed the way I shop for computer hardware. Their category searching has no match... you can search for a GFX card based on Pixelpiplines... I have yet to encounter any other site with such comprehensive search features. Not to mention shipping times and prices. - Staryx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yep, never had a problem with NewEgg myself.
- NICU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been ordering from TigerDirect for probably 7 years now. They mess up about 75% of my orders, but I like their website and their newsletters... My most recent order was supposed to be shipped over night and took almost 2 weeks. After my hour long 'chat' with them they refunded all of my shipping expenses and informed me that it takes at least 48 hours to process an online order - which is not posted on their website.
If you order from TigerDirect order over the phone not online! Your order will be processed immediately and something will be shipped to you. They will most likely send something that's wrong, broken, or used but it will be shipped out that day.
- runninmac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Good, I bought a CD burner/DVD player from them about 2 years ago. I got it, didn't open. Called them up got a second one, same exact problem. Returned it got another one still didn't open i tried everything... I gave up and just ended up going to the store any getting another one
My life story - latour, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12for canadian people, ncix all the way... tigerdirect.ca is all bs and they're expensive.
- sp3ctrecs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Wow, I kind of find this all surprising. While I don't primarily shop at TigerDirect, I have made several large purchases there, and have never had a problem. I even had an item placed on backorder once, called to cancel, and I was on and off the phone within 5 minutes without any problems. Maybe I'm just lucky?
- MisterKen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10You must be lucky.
They sent us a keyboard with keys missing and the cord cut. They tried to blame it on FedEx, but the box was pristine. The guy at FedEx said 'they try this at least once a month. I'm surprised they haven't blamed you'. Sure enough, they did. When we called Amex their rep said we should 'seriously reconsider future purchases'. - ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I have made a few small orders from the canadian Tiger Direct in the past and recently. Never got a problem. Everything came in good condition. But then again... I've always bough stuff that didn't need mail rebates.
- MisterKen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10You must be lucky.
- MisterKen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It really is amazing they are still around. How do they do it?
Their prices suck, their customer dis-service is legendary... - Cabal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2*looks down at computer*
well my hdd i bought from them seems to be working just fine.. - GaleForce, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3From the stats it looks as thought most customers who bring up a complaint with the BBB get their problems resolved. Not defending Tiger or anything, just think that any customer who gets screwed by them should definitely file a complaint.
- acceptab1euname, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7the problem is that the merchant is the one who determines which complaints are "resolved", which means that tigerdirect can simply lie and say that they consider the matter resolved.
- Nougat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Agreed. I've filed a couple of BBB complaints in my time, and all the business has to do is stand by their claim that they're not at fault and hope you don't take them to small claims court. Resolved.
- jimphelps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2We must be looking at different data. Tiger Direct does NOT resolve customer issues which is why BBB has posted a consumer alert.
- SoccerBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You shouldn't have to go to the BBB to get your problems solved. TD should handle the problem long before anyone else needs to get involved.
- SBelyea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7They've always been a shady dealer. First and last dealing we had with them was in 2002 when they sent us a damaged computer chassis and wouldn't compensate us. They definitely aren't a Newegg.
- optimusprime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I used to swear by TigerDirect and recommend them to all my clients... not anymore. I sent in for a $50 rebate and was denied because of some crap excuse "missing documentation"... but they wouldn't tell me what part of my rebate submission was missing... because I did it right in the first place! TigerDirect sucks.
- Karyyk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Not defending TigerDirect here (I hate that they advertise prices with rebates already deducted...a huge pet peeve), but every rebate I've had from them was handled by the hardware manufacturer, it's something they're offerring. I've had a couple of rebates not go through and upon talking to my sales rep, was able to secure the rebate. I've done business with them on several occasions and overall I've been pleased (they've improved since the merger with Global Computer).
- holdemcharts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Oh man, they suck for rebates going through.
- SoccerBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would say you have about a 60% chance of getting your rebate back. I have bought several things from them all at one time with rebates and got 9 of the 16 rebate. I got a lot of nothing when trying to find out what went wrong.
- reidypeidy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9i usually use newegg, they ship everything on time and it's cheaper than tigerdirect
- acceptab1euname, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I agree. I've given NewEgg literally thousands of dollars, and though I've heard some horror stories from when they first started up, I have never had a problem with them. Next year when i build my new computer, I'll be giving my money to NewEgg for sure. I've heard of nothing but problems with people who've dealt with TigerDirect, which is why I have never and will never use their services.
- acceptab1euname, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I agree. - blogsceptic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If you're in Canada, it costs $12 to mail the rebate form to Florida with the required registered mail.
But get this: many of their refunds are for $10 off!!!
SLIMY - Mitchl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Well, they have always had a little stink on them it seems to me. I bought my first MP3 player from them, only to find out it played MP3 layer 1, and only musicmatch version 5 supported it, and this was when musicmatch was on version 7.
However, in other cases, I have got a couple hard drives really cheap- and also bought a couple fairly unique discontinued items which I missed during their short production run.
I choose to still get their ads, just to see what Carl is pushing-- I will probably buy again-- but always fully aware of the shadyness, and I would not recommend them to others. - wesmoc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Kinda surprising to me, too.
I've ordered tons of stuff from them with no problems. They actually stood behind their "rebate guarantee" for me once with a biostar bundle I bought two years ago (no questions asked, they simply credited me the entire group of rebates to my credit card). With that, I was hooked.
Sure, they sell crap. All retailers do. You just have to be a little cautious when buying anything: don't just buy it if the price looks right.
I think is says quite a bit the TigerDirect actually tries to resolve problems. Not defending TigerDirect here, but I know of a bunch of places where, once you have the product, the retailer washes their hands of the entire process. - jwalk81980, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3My experience with them was really good. Got my rebate back in two weeks. I've only used them once though.
- Red_Eye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Tiger has always had issues, its a you get what you pay for outfit. I bought some 3Com 802.11b equipment from them years ago(my last purchase from them) it was on clearance. It arrieved and the access point was an Isreal unit with limited channels and other issues. I still have it because I wouldnt push this on my worst enemy. They refused to credit me despite the incorrect item description.
- nullvector, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5TigerDirect has been horrible for as long as I can remember. Even in the late 90's I remember people talking about ordering from them and thinking to myself..."what a newb"...
People get a catalog in the mail and they assume the place is legit. 9/10 times I've seen people order from them, they receive the order all screwed up, or its a blatant scam with rebates that never come in, etc.
Just check resellerratings, do your research before you buy. - thexder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I used to work there, and well you can call me a disgruntled employee, but none of the employees are gruntled. The Fiorentinos are crooks.
- MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Finally. These guys need to go down.
- algorythm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Beware of their rebate scams. They usually say they never received it or that you are missing something. You cant prove that your missing something because they keep the stuff you sent. Just boycott them and lets hope they go out of business. Some morons, however, like the guy above will continue to support them.
- Karyyk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3So if someone has had a different experience than you, that makes them a moron? Seems pretty closed-minded, especially if they have just as much a reason to keep buying as you have to stop. If I start having issues, that's one thing, but I haven't had a single one that hasn't been resolved satisfactorily. If you think they're bad, look into BestBuy.com (a site I'm sure many of you do business with without batting an eyelash).
- magixx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2TigerDirect is horrible, I wanted to buy a graphics cards deal, payed and all, 2 weeks later I called only to find out that they hadnt done anything and cancelled because credit card was diffrent from shipping adress or another adress. I try to put different order, Online says In Stock, I call and the lamers say they dont have it in stock. I would suggest you avoid TigerDirect.
- vvaduva, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5This is surprising to me too..I've ordered quite a bit of stuff from them and never had a problem. Granted it's been almost a year since my last purchase.. It sounds like they need a good shakedown..or shakeup...or whichever one works. I am sure someone will sue them sooner or later and they'll learn a lesson.
- loker269, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4tigerdirect has been great for me....I always get my rebates.....and every time I have had a part to return they were easy to deal with....5 minutes on the phone and I had my RMA....I even had somed UV lights break during shipping and tigerdirect replaced them as opposed to telling me to contact UPS like newegg did (don't get me wrong newegg is good just that one time they pissed me off!)
I have had plenty of friends order from them too and no problems.....I am still pretty confident in tigerdirect!- loker269, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1or I am not lieing.....
- glycolized, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I too am surprised by this news. I've probably ordered from TD a dozen times in the past 2 or 3 years.
I've never had problem getting the product on time; in fact, I have ordered after 4pm EST several times and received my shipment in SW Michigan the next day. As far as a return, I had ordered a (cheap) case and PS combo. The case arrived damaged, and they immediately replaced it. Same cheap case, power supply pooped in 45 days. They replaced that too with no hassle (thought I had to RMA that PS back to them to get it replaced). Not too bad of service for a 45 dollar case and PS.
I guess I'll order carefully from them and pay attention. I guess I've never dropped a bunch of money at one time with them - maybe 200 bucks was my largest order.
- alphacoder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Doing software development down here in Miami, I would often steer some clients to Tigerdirect, not all but some. Well, I bought a Treo phone from them and this is how it went:
1. Order placed yet got an email saying the phone was on backorder.
2. After a week, called and finally got through to someone who said that it was 'already in processing' and could not be cancelled but all I had to do was refuse the shipment when it came!
3. Figured I'd wait but when it did show up about 10 days later (with overnight shipping), the phone said 'Spring PCS' on it!
4. Called Tigerdirect since I had their ad printed as well as my order confirmation page which stated it was for Verizon only. They said that Verizon and Sprint used the same phones and to take it into the store so they can - no lie - reboot it!
LMAO! In the last six or seven months, I've steered all my clients away from them and that's to the tune of about $25K in computer equipment. - wtf00, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I used to buy at tiger direct back in 2002, but one day I got tired of there ***** shipping and I wrote email telling them how come there shipping so expensive compare to other online site like newegg, and zipzoomfly... they reply "our shipping is fair compare to other site, if you dont like our shipping price find another site to do business with" and I reply "fine, I got to newegg they treat me like a ***** king and free shipping"
***** tigerdirect and there ***** low price...- Nougat, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Replied to wrong post.
- xerox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8they scam you sooo hard on shipping.
- loker269, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I live about 12 hours from their main warehouse in Naperville so i can just go with ground shipping and it is here next day....cheap....not true for most everyone but hey it works for me!
- Nougat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I drive by their Naperville warehouse every day. I miss when it was Global Computer, and all the geeks would stand on line on Saturday morning for the early bird specials.
- Karyyk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I do volume orders through both GlobalComputer (basically TigerDirect for businesses) and CDW, and Global/Tiger beats CDW on nearly every comparable order. Shipping tends to be a little high, but there are worse (and bigger) companies giving you the screw.
- Brutis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5down with tigerdirect, i'd personally like to see them vanish and quit taking consumer's money. I'd rather order from a 0 feedback person on ebay then them.
- Alaerus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6www.newegg.com
Its the only company I deal with now. Yes, sometimes their prices are higher, yes, I have to pay more for Fedex now. But you know what? I don't mind. Because I know I'll get my parts in when they say and I'll be getting quality stuff. - mgreenwald, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I got a GeForce7900GT (rev2.com/gsbsw-PE-OC/4) from them last week and had no problems whatsoever. I normally go with Newegg but they didn't have it in stock at the time.
w00t!- hammydude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2...And then the phone calls started...
- nstern2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Looks at bare bones kit sitting at feet. $150 with free shipping does not seem like a scam to me.... but they did charge my credit card twice. which they promptly refunded the next day. Still havent gotten my rebates back so the verdict is still out.
- kacymartin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i doubt you will get your rebates either. I've tried 3 or 4 different ones from Tigerdirect and never did see them.
- atomist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Oooh that explains a lot.
Ordered a LCD Projector from Tigerdirect. Told my boss cause it was a good deal $499.
Few days later my projector arrives. DOA. Great but it had 30 days warranty so I got it fixed at a local shop.
My boss's projector arrives and lasts 35 days, then dies (same problem mine had). Of course out of warranty...
A few month later I order 2 250gb S-ATA drives. They just threw them into a small box with some peanuts. Of course 1 of the 2 was DOA.
So far nothing I have received from tiger direct was 100% working... so much for ordering from them again.- loker269, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I was having issues with a mobo and I yes ME ended up frying it and smoke clouds come puffing up....I spent 5 minutes on the phone got an RMA....I had my replacement mobo in a couple of days!
- amed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This is an interesting article, hopefully tiger direct will pay more attention and server better services to customers
- pairanoyd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5They screwed me on an item I ordered but was not delivered.
I ordered a case/PS last year, TD sent it to UPS but UPS sent it back to TD saying they weren't delivering to my area because hurricane Rita had hit the area a month before, this was nonsense because I was watching UPS trucks making deliveries all over the area. Anyway, TD sent me a message saying they couldn't deliver the item and refunded me for the item only, but not for the shipping.
TD kept the $17 for something they never shipped to me.
When I tried to call them about it they claimed they were overloaded with calls from hurricane hit areas and put me on hold with a message telling me the wait time was over 2 hours. I only have a cell phone so that was a no go.
Sorry bastards. I'll NEVER do business with them again. And they have the balls to keep sending me catalogs like I'm going to buy something from them.
Screw Tiger Direct, I wipe my ass with your catalogs. - windowlicker259, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Does anyone else find it amusing that the Executive Vice President's name is Richard WALLET (see bottom of BBB report)?
...it's all about the money... LOL! - darkinfero, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3i always order from newegg
my friend in my dorm said he likes tiger direct because his friend from home orders from their
he order parts to built a new computer for my friend
so they got everything from tigerdirect.
they bought the cpu (oem) and the motherboard from them
the computer was working for a while
then the cpu after 3 months of use kinda died
it would boot up sometimes and work
tiger direct sells bad things
and my friend still want to order and new processor from them - goingpostale1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Why would anyone, ever buy from this company instead of newegg? We all know newegg is the best, I still use them even when the price difference between items favors tigerdirect or some less reputable store. Paying the extra money is worth not dealing with the *****. I've used newegg since 02 and I will as long as they continue to provide stellar service and pricing.
- lagrange, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Tiger Direct has realized something thats usually a shock to legitimate business people.
If you sent out defective product, only about 25% of it will come back, and you can sell that again and it probably wont come back either.
Sleasy as hell, but true. There are a lot of businesses like Tiger Direct that thrive on the fact that returns on sub $50 items are very low, most people dont consider it worth the trouble. - wuzzie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3OMG! So true!
I recently bought a G7 thru Amazon to TG for a $50 rebate (which, hopefully, I will get it..) and the mouse was defective.. So I called in the customer service, and they hang up on me three times. They were all like "Please hold on for a minute" then -click-
And when I asked them q's about how to return the product, they were like "Oh..yeah. Just follow the instructions on the back of the packing slip.."
Then I asked "How about the RMA"
"Oh, yes. That. Please hold.."
then.. -click-
Also, they said that if your product is defective and you send it in, they will reimburse your shipping fee. And that was one of the q's that I never got answered.
I asked around and I finally found out -- you have to fax in your shipping invoice, then they will reimburse you. WTF.
If it's not for the rebate, I'd never buy anything from TG
Hope this helps- wuzzie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1sorry.. it's supposed to be TD instead of TG
- bloodrain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2took them time. to get the gov piss off.
- fogster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The BBB is NOT a government organization. (They are technically a corporation.)
- jimphelps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think what he meant was there was a governement case filed against Tiger Direct on on November 4, 1999, case #C3903. You will find this information at the BBB by clicking on the story headline.
- chigaze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I returned a RAM order 3 times. The first time someone in the warehouse made a substitution. I talked to a sales rep who said to send it back but didn't believe my explanation. The second time someone in the warehouse made a substitution. The third time someone in the warehouse made a substitution. There was no fourth time.
- NoSuchAgency, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Count me as a Canadian who's had no problem with them (2 orders: a graphics tablet and USB2 kit). But I would not be surprised at any "reputable" internet seller really being shady, there are so many ways to dick people over via mail order.
I don't trust rebates for one thing, they are misleading at the best of times and outright fraud at the worst. I'll buy if the actual price is right, and if the rebate comes in... all the better. - sHARD>>, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think more accurate is this: YMMV. Sometimes they screw you, sometimes they don't. Last few times we've gone through buisness, they were great. Plus that time I got a brand new "broken seal" WiFi CF card for $20 (still have yet to find a better deal 18 months later). But I've known plenty of people who got screwed. It's about getting lucky.
- Guspaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I bought some headphones from them a while back, from their Canadian branch (TigerDirect.ca). They charged me provincial sales tax, even though they should only have charged me Federal sales tax.
What happened to the extra tax they charged? For all I know, they pocketed it as extra profit. - btipling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4After reading all of these digg articles I will never ever buy anything from Tiger Direct. Thanks for the warning! Heh, there are plenty of other electronic gadget companies that wont play these games with you.
- pwncore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I ordered a case from them over a year ago and it arrived with a broken front bezel and no fans (it was advertised as having three 80 mm fans). I called them, got a RMA, and even paid to ship it back UPS (about $30). They refused to reimburse me but said they were still going to keep the case. I told them I'm not paying $70 for something I don't even have let alone a broken one that came not as advertised. I disputed them on my credit card for over a year befor ethey finally gave up.

- briareus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Their pricing is not worth the risk. There are definitely better vendors out there to deal with who are highly reliable and may be a few bucks more.
- pwncore, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Zipzoomfly and Newegg beat Tiger Direct at service and pricing any day hands down.
