- mcbesq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For reasons the scientists are at a loss to explain, its running PC-DOS, and is mainly being used to play Oregon Trail and Math Blaster.
- fastfinge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1C'mon everybody! Reproduce! We're falling behind!
- MikeZila, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is it faster than the entire F@Home swarm working together?
- mcbesq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I propose that the supercomputer be used to devise a way to launch a nuclear strike at those who post things like "my beowulf clustr of linux computrs is sooo much more 1337. haxorz rule!!111"
- bakatrinh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"designed to help ensure the safety and reliability of the country's aging nuclear weapons"
do you really need that fast of a computer to do that? - anagami, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0"to make weapons safe and reliable."
yeah right, if this is about nuclear weapons then it's not safe for neither the offender/attacker nor the offended/attacked. - jav1231, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Must be running Vista Blue Ray Edition.
- foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0pppfft my beowulf clustr of linux computrs is sooo much more 1337. haxorz rule!!111
- fu_fish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This computer was already named the fastest computer in the world on the June 2005 Top 500 list (http://top500.org/lists/plists.php?Y=2005&M=06) and I've not heard of anything that will unthrone it for the list the comes out in a couple of weeks.
- farfromsubtl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmmm, I take it back, they beat that one.
- fx101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wonder how many 3d marks it can get... LOL!!! (too bad no 3dmark for unix(
- farfromsubtl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Took 'em 3 years but they beat the Japanese. Now give Japan a few months and they'll unveil one that is 10 times better. lol
- MightyGiant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why did you link to this through Hidemyass?
- v0id, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0for images and project examples clicky http://domino.research.ibm.com/comm/pr.nsf/pages/rsc.bluegene_2004.html
- fayji, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What the hell is "mega-science"?!!?!?
- Thurloat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0pfft. mine's better ;)
- Truxman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@swooper101
You mean "Shall we play a game?"
At least they didn't name it W.O.P.R. - cookiebearo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0amish:
"BlueGene/L can conduct 360 trillion calculations per second, she said."
"its speed is equal to every man, woman and child in the world doing 60,000 calculations per second."
it's not saying it can handle the 'human capability' of everyone it's saying it is equivalent to 6 billion people doing 60k calculations :/
read article thx - TheAttacks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hm. . . I wonder how good the video card is.
- dperrin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hope it doesn't turn out like it did in Terminator 3. lol
- farfromsubtl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Scientists in Japan have the fastest computer. They created an ultra fast network and strung together hundreds of super computers in a building. It is designed to calculate the worlds weather.
- SirThom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Is it faster than the entire F@Home swarm working together?"
Excellent question. Over half a million computers working together like that can't stack up to this. =) - sabster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0omgz dude imagine runing half life on that!!@!@!!@!
- gab00n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow at least they put it to good use ;-|
- Krozgen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hey ICE9, that's gravitational wave astronomy. Put 3 space stations in a triangle, link them all with lasers, and put them a few thousand kilometers apart. When 2 black holes hit, they'll send out a ripple that's detectable, as it'll knock the laser beam aside _the width of a nucleus_ (of an atom). Have fun with that one :)
- superal1394, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0why cant they use this thing for something useful? like curing cancer, or giving it to those guys who are mapping the human brain... ect.
- MikeDawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm unfamiliar with this http://hidemyass.com/
- sfacets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Did any of you Americaan's know that they were going to use your tax money for this?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a moron.
This is the SIXTH dupe within the last 7 days.

digg.com was cool for the first month, but it will never rival Slashdot's quality of news. - ra3ndy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0man, I'd love to run some photoshop filters on that....*drool*
- lotus22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's not located there. It's in my basement, we play Duke Nukem 3D with it.
- farfromsubtl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Jesus, this is old news, do a little googling and you will see that this thing has already been surpassed... a year ago!
- CaptainCalculus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/deepcomputing/bluegene_glance.html
That air conditioning is amazing...
Can I add Folding at Home to that1?!??!?!? - robsonde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0

this page needs updating every few months to stay current. - razrielle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0can you say war games.....great movie by the way
- DJS2005, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah I have one of these. Has a great cupholder that slides out of the front. I use it to check my e-mail.
- Amadeus2490, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
So this is yet another story about the PS3? - beejay54, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0... is sitting in Matt's basement. Nevermind, I've already said to much.
- Arkz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can it play Quake 4?
- DipshitPolice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You're arrested for:
1) Complaining about a dupe story when your own story was a dupe as well. Search for "supercomputer", four people submitted about BlueGene/L's record (up to three days) before you. - EnzanBlues, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What DUPE! Seriously, people need to learn how to look for dupes when they submit this. I submitted this 2 days ago!
http://digg.com/hardware/World_s_Fastest_Supercomputers_Unveild
What has digg become. People should digg the first story that comes. - burke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I bet it isn't up to spec for Vista.
- amitrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0360 trillion calculations per second!! thats insanity!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0All the computing power in the world won't do any good protecting the nuclear arsenal when you have a retarded monkey manning the launch button.
Yes, I'm talking about our famous drug-addled warmongering criminal dictator here in the united snakes of amerikkka. - TheStooge1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I bet you'd get a Windows BSOD in under a second with this thing!
YES!
By the way... you can always leave the country. American Airlines has non-stop flights to France EVERY DAY!
Bye Bye now. - SniperX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah.. But does it run Linux?
- papau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0designed to help ensure the safety and reliability of the country's aging nuclear weapons. Hmmm you would think just getting rid of the nuks would do it ..lol
- TheDarkTipper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I want the specs. I guess AOTS will have to update their UGM to 10.
- foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0mcbesq,
it was a joke. i propose that the supercomputer be used to devise a way to launch a nuclear strike at those who cannot take a joke. -
