- inactive, on 04/22/2008, -5/+99Uh, Dennis Nedry was killed by a Dilophosaurus (the one with the frilled collar that spits black goop), not a Velociraptor, subby. Nice reference though.
/I still get goosebumps during the first scene with CGI dinosaurs in Jurassic Park. - Tunguska, on 04/22/2008, -3/+53Uh uh uh.
Nedry was killed by Diliphosaurus. - Slaiv, on 04/22/2008, -6/+32Dugg for killing Dennis Nedry...
- theragu40, on 04/22/2008, -0/+25Jurassic Park still has some of the best CGI and special effects of any movie, despite how old it is. It has really stood the test of time, and even going back to watch it now, the effects are much more believable than a lot of current movies. What an awesome movie.
- ChuckIT, on 04/22/2008, -1/+26clever girl. . .
- schizogony, on 04/22/2008, -0/+19Unh-unh-unh, you didn't say the magic word!
- brundlefly76, on 04/22/2008, -0/+16I don't know why tech publications are still referring to SSD's generically while they discuss hard drives on a model-by-model basis.
The MTRON's performance blows the doors off all other SSD's, while there are some SSD's which can't hold a candle to the Raptor.
So it is meaningless to say 'SSD is the winner' or 'SSD sucks' etc, without noting which model of SSD you are speaking of, just like you do when comparing hard drives.
In this case, the MTRON Pro 64 SSD is the winner, not 'SSD's' - ChuckIT, on 04/22/2008, -0/+14SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT her! shoooooooooooooooooooot Heeeer!
- Jahabi, on 04/22/2008, -4/+14wtf why are there so many stories on this. They all link to ***** review sites
- lordmetroid, on 04/22/2008, -3/+11This is still not fast enough!
- rockus, on 04/22/2008, -4/+12Because you are stupid?!
- Matteos, on 04/22/2008, -0/+8Actually, it runs cooler than the Raptor X without the heatsink (around 42°C) The heatsink only dissipates 4-5° C. The main reason for it is to make it able to be mounted in a standard 3.5" drive bay, seeing as it is a 2.5" form factor drive.
- kevinmotel, on 04/22/2008, -0/+7as soon as i read the description, i knew someone was gonna mention it was a dilophosaurus, not a raptor
- davman99, on 04/22/2008, -7/+14*facepalm* clearly my purchases drive the evolution of technology as I only bought a Raptor about 4 days ago. This happened when I got my processor on Socket 939, AM2 came out a few days later. Why do I not check? WHY!?
- AeroSquid, on 04/22/2008, -0/+7Actually WD is considered one of if not the best hard drive manufacturer. I guess you prefer Maxtor =)
- EBFoxbat, on 04/22/2008, -1/+7Access times are faster, transfers are not. Go play on Wikipedia.
- SSUK, on 04/22/2008, -1/+6Let me know when you start making better comments
- tim620, on 04/22/2008, -0/+5Mislabeled! Should be "Fastest PC Hard Drive ever". High end servers have had faster drives than this for years.
- punkcat, on 04/22/2008, -2/+7full millisecond faster in some tests, wow.
- Llanowar, on 04/22/2008, -0/+5I don't have much knowledge on hard drives. But I've seen 15.000 rpm drives. So how come this one is faster? (not doubting it, just wish to know)
- trekkie, on 04/22/2008, -1/+5came in here to say that, 15K drives have been out for what, 5 years now?
- sam991, on 04/22/2008, -0/+4It's a UNIX system! I know this!
- Baryn, on 04/22/2008, -0/+4You clever girl...
- DarkDx, on 04/22/2008, -1/+5Only in seek times and access time, but once you start trasfering the data the 10000 rpm hard drive will be bettar. Also there are friggin 15000 rpm hard drives out right now, why is this new?
- Homerr, on 04/22/2008, -0/+4http://www.storagereview.com/WD3000BLFS.sr
- lAmoebal, on 04/22/2008, -0/+4The first line in the article points this out.
"Ok, so technically a Dilophosaurus hocked the venom loogie all over Nedry's face. " - theragu40, on 04/22/2008, -0/+4Clever girl....AAAAGHGGGGGGHHHH
- NoCt1, on 04/22/2008, -0/+4In some things a millisecond can be what makes or breaks you..
- schizogony, on 04/22/2008, -0/+3They're moving in herds...
- Desolite, on 04/22/2008, -3/+6I thought the flash based hard drives were the fastest hard drives...?
anyone? anyone? - SteveMax, on 04/22/2008, -0/+3Story should be "the new fastest SATA hard drive ever". Most SAS devices are on a completely different league than this.
- maelnum, on 04/22/2008, -0/+3Peregrine Falcons
- ninja0, on 04/22/2008, -0/+3mega-fastasaure.
- PueSi, on 04/22/2008, -1/+4The average read and average write is waaay faster.
- inactive, on 04/22/2008, -1/+4Too bad Dennis Nedry wasn't killed by Velociraptors....
- AeroSquid, on 04/22/2008, -0/+3Until they make a SATA model I'll stick with the WD drive.
- eyepatch100, on 04/22/2008, -0/+3Dilophosaurus, man.
- BenKenobi88, on 04/22/2008, -0/+3SHOOOT HEERRR!
- SquireToad, on 04/22/2008, -1/+4Like I could give a damn, given the miserable survival rates of pretty much all the new small huge-capacity drives these days. Nice 200Gig SATA hard drive in a fancy HP, less than a year old. Total malfunction, lost everything with no warning. Microsoft Media Center 2005: now just try to find the drivers. 1.5 days later, finally got the sound working :-(
We have yet to see if the warrantee will pay off on the hard drive. Probably just replace the POS, bah.
I'm not buying anything other than 80 giggers until all this crap settles out. - pmc64, on 04/22/2008, -0/+3i thought people stopped saying sucky back in middle school
- coolbru, on 04/22/2008, -1/+4It's not. The 15k drives you'll have seen are SAS, not SATA. This may be the fastest SATA drive, but it's quite some way from being the fastest drive.
- fkr3, on 04/22/2008, -1/+3Yes.... especially when you're checking your email and stuff. You don't want someone else getting in first on that special deal you've been asked to broker in Nigeria.
- psykiv, on 04/22/2008, -2/+4So how much did you pay for your usb flash drive? I'm pretty sure you paid more than $4 for a 4gb...
- elfuego, on 04/22/2008, -0/+2So, if I forget to use the magic word, it locks down?
- Grummond, on 04/22/2008, -0/+2SSD drives are slower for typical use. Also dies after a certain amount of writes, writes happen continously in Vista, so everytime you turn it on, think of a death clock ticking inside your PC.
- drastik21, on 04/22/2008, -0/+2Transferring 1GB every 7-10 seconds is OK for me.
- Scott2, on 04/22/2008, -1/+3Dennis Nedry was killed by a couple of Dilophosaurs. Duh.
- joeydoo, on 04/22/2008, -0/+2It'll load it... but then the PC is on it's own.....
- xxNIRVANAxx, on 04/22/2008, -0/+2and to reduce noise.
- netsql, on 04/22/2008, -1/+3Ah... SAS is faster. This is "popular tech" article, not real tech. Try tom's hardware or Ars for real stuff.
